You’re talking about the people who needed the SS-17 AND SS-19 (in additon to the SS-18, 24, and 25), the SS-N-20 AND SS-N-23, S-300PMU AND S-300V, Shipwreck AND Sandbox AND Kitchen instead of one missile for all three roles. Business as usual for them.

Trident allready explain you in short why there is so much weapons developed. No offence but your post just show how much knowledge you have about Soviet missile history.

What are you talking about?I already post these pictures in Naval section. And the case is that the foam is used AFTER the submarine was recover and for more safely removal of the missiles.

-I repeat again, you have a distorsioned perception on how a mobile SAM works. It will not work while traveling; it will remain imobile for hours searching for targets, than relocated–plenty of time to hit it.

And you are ignoring the fact that S-300PMU… system is part of network, and even can fire at targets with data recieved from other radars. This give plenty of room for “ambush” scenario with their own radar shut down.

So is the issue that the system is outside the USA, or that they think the system can marginalize their nuclear strike ability? There is a difference.

You said “Russia has had an ABM system for years and nobody complained about it…”.System deployed only to protect Moscow and undear a threaty with USA.Under what threaty with Russia this ABM system is being build? And i ask again. Why would Russia feel comfortable in this case?

And that reaction is what, exactly? Little more than nothing.

    Is this consider a reaction?
“Unhappy with the Venezuelan government’s lack of cooperation on terrorism and concerned about its military build-up, the Bush administration banned U.S. arms exports to Venezuela in May and pressured several countries to forego major weapons deals. Spain, Sweden and Brazil have obliged; Russia has not.”
“Israel has frozen a contract with Venezuela to upgrade its US-manufactured F-16 fighter jets under pressure from Washington”

Russia doesn’t have “10 interceptors” on paper… just like “NATO will not expand eastward” on paper either, or “we will accept former WP nations but not former soviet republics”… “Nato troops will never be based in eastern europe”… Yeah… they probably heard them all by now…

Garry is right here.Hugs and kisses in the media and expansion at the same time. What amuses me is that in the west there is very warm feelings about the puppets in Georgia and Ukraine.Western media keep blabing all this democratic crap, while the new rulers are no better than the people they overthrown

I just find it so amusing that 10 interceptors is enough to push Russia over the edge and cause this much consternation. Russia has had an ABM system for years and nobody complained about it…

On foreign soil?SOC now you ignore the facts. You know under what condition the system was build.

That’d be a completely different scenario. US ICBMs don’t fly south, they go over the north pole. So if Russia wants to waste billions to put a system in Mexico that won’t be able to intercept anything, they’re more than welcome

I’m not convinced that this will be USA reaction.See what is the reaction against any arms deal with Venezuela.

This guy clearly knows nothing about what he is talking about here

SOC i don’t think that this is the case.Russians need to shout as loud as they can in every media to influence their population to be against any ABM sites in Europe. For you they are just stupid, but the average citisen don’t know anything about missile defence will swallow it very easy. Why would Russia feel comfortable with USA AB missiles “near” it?Just think, what would be USA reaction if Venezuela buys A-2500…They(USA and Russia) pretend to be friends but there is no secret that their nuclear arsenal is aimed at each other. And for now i think that Russia takes it way too easy.

It’s unbelievable how much credit some people give to Russian systems.

Such a scenario would require a level of networking that no one outside US has. In fact even in US, only a GBG can claim that has it — thanks to the CEC (Cooperative Engagement Capability). And BTW, it costs over 3 billion per battle group…

Right….And all talk what uber weapon SDB is true?
And were is the need for 3 billion system? For example system like Senej(5S99M) can cue S-75,S-125,S-200V,S-300V,S-300P(PMU-1…) with information about aerial targets, decoys, jammers, can guide PVO fighters and ensure that they are not engaged. Also the system coordinate the deployment of other SAM systems and the engagemet of any target.Senej receive data from most PVO radars.

The naval version can rely on other shipboard radars for early warning of an attack, as well as target cueing. The Tunguska has no such facilities.

No.Tunguska can be cued to Ranjir(9S737) command and comunication system, also Ovod-M-SV(PPRU-1) or Sborka(PPRU-1M).

Other than the SA-15 what other systems have demonstrated the ability to shoot down a small bomb?

Don’t know about freefall bombs, but Tunguska can engage cruise missiles.

“Breakaway republic”? It’s an independant country. Next you’ll be claiming that Russia, like China has claim to all the USSR’s former territory just because it once owned it.

I bet he mean Abkhazia and Ajaria or South Ossetia.

I tend to agree with WisePanda and Garry.Against determined and cappable enemy as USA,mix of high cost long range and low cost, short range systems is needed.

A good gun system like pantsyr on tracked/truck cued by radar/optics is also
a decent inner layer…mounted on berms or atop hills for longer LOS.

Something like this “cheap” Pantsyr based on BPM-3 with optical sensor.
    http://pvo.guns.ru/images/panzir/new/p841.jpg
Also,Iran must invest in modern radar and C3 systems.Radar such as Protivnik-GE(59N6-E) is capable of detecting 1,5m2 RCS targets at 340 km and 0,1m2 at 200 km.Such radar can give target location to pasive systems(average error in distance is 50 m,in heigh 350 m).Also after providing good multi layered defence, there is passive countermeasures such as Gazetchik-E,wich work for TV,Laser and passive or active radar guided munnitions.

MANPADs like the Igla-S have anti cruise missile capability if you can maintain communications and control of your forces.

Yes.And the fact that Igla-S with Planshet system can receive data from command and comunication systems such as Ranjir(9S737M),make this cheap and simple system very formidable enemy. In some sence this is mobile SAM complex.:)

To trust UK army is the last thing i’ll do.Look more like good propaganda tool.Same as “Iran support terrorism in Iraq”,said yesterday by the same person that lied about the reasons behind the Iraq invasion, and also not backed up by any solid evidence. It’s just stupidity to trust someone like him.
By the way why they look so “fresh”?If they were threated so bad for 13 days…
