    It’s funny how if somebody want to project USSR as the Evil Empire,they all use the crimes in Stalin era.Yet up to 60’s there was segregation in USA.Maybe you are not “collored” and is easy to forget.Yeah,millions killed in USSR is no way equal to segregation in USA,but that don’t justify the racism at all.

    The huge presence of the Soviets close to NATO borders was also due to doubtful capability of the friendly forces, aggrevated by the Soviets by delivering second class material.

    WP countries were intentionaly more weak,so in case of events similar to this in 1967 they will be less threat.At least this is one of the reasons,as it was told me by ex high military commander.Yes we received downgraded versions,but in the case of Bulgaria we also received S-200,S-300PMU,SS-21 weapons by no mean weak than those in NATO or USSR possesion.

    The Soviets always relied more on conventional forces, partly because they could afford it (no democracy, cheap labor).

    As to the evidence that exists in my head, well it is based on my read of events just as your evidence is but my judgment of the USSR and it’s Warpac clones, isn’t based on any kind of specific military issues, weaponry, who deployed what where and when (see GarryB and Kilcoo) or who banged on the podium at the UN with his shoe and said “we will bury you”. It’s boils down to the way the USSR and other communist dictatorships treated their people and the fact that they would have treated me and mine the same way if they had had the chance. It’s based on the fact that they used tanks rather than the ballot box. The fact that they had to build walls and fences to prevent their citizens from running away and shot many who tried. Those are the facts that I base my views on, not whether or not the USSR had more or less military power than NATO .

    So…for me you don’t know anything.You did not live a single day in lets say 1976 Czechoslovakia,and yet you have opinion about how WE lived.And the wall was in East Berlin…sure it was not easy to go to another(friendly)country,the hard was to get to west one.But this was more due to the paranoia among the rulers.I was in West Germany and England,and yet i returned home.And i was not in the party,so many things were forbidden to me.I can assure you that many(mostly eldery) people want the return of communism.For me…no thanks,but what i miss is the feeling of security.In the past few people locked their cars,now we have gang war on streets….

    Ummm,maybe what we were doing in exercises.Sure we know that in case of war,for less than a week Bulgaria will be occupied,but we also know that this was the purpose of WP,to act like buffer.And i’m confident that we were more capable(in terms of skill)than Iraq for example.

    Well i’m not from USSR,but i lived more than a day under communist regime.Also i was in the military(Bulgaria).The scenarios that we learned in military school was primary defencive/counter offence after first strike from NATO.For example in one exercise with Soviet soldiers we “played” a scenario in which Soviet para-troopers come to aid after massive strike from Greece and Turkey.Nevertheless Bulgaria lacked any weapon in the class of Pershing so we were even unable to deliver proper first strike.Sure our MiG’s were capable of using nukes,but i don’t know a single case when there was such bombs in Bulgaria.But i can be wrong….
