“Let’s not forget what those M-1s, Leopard IIs, Challengers, Apaches, Cobras etc. would do to those armored forces either”
Yeah, and skip that air defence, artillery,MLRS and tactical missiles right….

“those T72 and T80s burn quite nicely I am told.”
And they also have nice 125 mm guns, but i forget that they are just soviet crap….and who told you that they burn nice?

Well the launch of S-300 is called “cold” but it is just compared to launches of other missiles.S-300 use gas produced by gas-generator using slow burning propellent.Even in the russian site’s they use the word for “gunpowder”.
“The gas goes from high pressure tanks on the vehicle (or somewhere on the canister)”-gas generators are in the bottom of the launch tube.

There is a mechanism that hold the missile in place, and in the launch process ensures that there is no latteral movement. One of the holding joints is in the top,and there is a exploding bolt.(S-300V 9M83 missile)

In the case of 48N6E missile the mechanism move just to the middle of the tube. You can see it here painted in red.

“Anyone got any numbers for radar performance?”
The weight of the complex is around 20 tons. The radar is capable of finding fighter-type target at range of 200-400km for low altitude and 300-600 for hight.Sea targets are in 400 km range. The number of tracked targets is 50(for the improved-150) and the number of guided fighters is 12.Starting sea and ballistic missiles can be found from 1000 km from IR sensor(A-50 is in 10 000 m altitude).

    About Yugoslavian home made SAM’s……
The first attemp to use Air-to-Air missile as SAM was in middle 90’s when Bosnian Serb army develop mobile ground launcher on the base of TAM-150 truck armed with two R-13(AA-2 Atoll) with IR-guidence.This modification was never named because it never pass official trials.

    Source:Vojske Krajine

Even more simple system known as Pracka(“Праща”) was a R-60 missile mounted on basis of M-55(20mm) AA towed gun.The main disadvantage is the range wich was very low.

According to Jane’s Missile and Rockets SAM complexs using two-stage rockets was developed in short time in VTI(Air Technical Institute) and VTO(Air-Testing Center) in 1999.They were named RL-2 and RL-4.

The systems are based on Czech’s M53/59 mobile 30mm AA guns of wich 100 was in Yugoslav army.
RL-2 system is armed with R-60 missile with added booster as first stage. The booster is 2.25 m long with diameter around 120-130 mm.Presumably the booster is based on localy made MLRS round(128mm) with added fins.Replacing the guns allowed 2 missiles to be put on APU-60-1DB1 pylons.

    Later today about RL-4…

    Garry RVV-AE-PD is this missile:
    http://airwar.ru/image/i/weapon/r-77pd_8.jpg

Weights 225kg with 5M speed and range between 100 and 180 km(depending on sources)

    Edit….
The inscription on missile you posted is RVV-AE-ZRK, ZRK(ЗРK) means anti-air missile complex. So i search trought internet and i found that the missile had enlarged booster and is for modernized AA complex, that will have nearly 2 times more missiles being verticaly launched. There is also rumours that the missile use small rocket engines to maneuver(like TOR missile).
