There was no fuel-crisis until the tanker-drivers threatened to strike.

Government advice since the panic-buying started has been wholeheartedly not to panic-buy, they stated (quite clearly) on the same day that Maude gave his infamous advice that the union would have to give seven days notice of any strike action, they have assured people that supplies are not limited, they have removed restrictions to the tanker-drivers working hours, even the tanker-drivers have now said there will not be any strike until after the Easter break…

…but still some panic-buying goes on.

Do you know why the drivers took a vote to hold if necessary a strike,do you realise that they have been trying to talk to employers about changes to working conditions for months, but of course while we have a Tory led government the employers are taking the line that workers will do as they’re told right or wrong.

The employers are trying to operate an on time delivery service with the caveat that drivers will be penalised if late. For me I certainly don’t want a driver trying to run to time with a 27 ton bomb on board.

Then of course we have brain dead politicians who have ramped up the situation, gets Gormless George and his pathetic budget out of the headlines, distracts the cash for access questions.

Between dogmatic, bullying employers and a useless parody of an elected government are you surprised when workers shout enough.

Incidentally just who do you think is working the extra hours and extra shifts to keep fuel stations supplied, yes you got it those same tanker drivers not employers or idiot MPs.

Good book, good read, but don’t pay anything like the marked price, all the usual discounters seem to have it.

Well it was 4 yrs old , so probably worth £ 2000, about the same as a 4 yr old Panda car !!

According to BBC North West, it was lost because the battery was allowed to run flat, estimated replacement cost £13,000 definitely an ” oooooooh s##t ” moment.

That is something else, trouble is I can just imagine quite a few model makers currently digging large holes in their gardens with a view to disposing of some of their formerly proud achievements.

Remembering that it isn’t the only air worthy lanc and there is an outside chance we may see another why not just use it as a hangar queen and get a Shackleton up again? 😮

The words BBMF might be a clue as to why the Lanc is maintained in airworthy condition rather than a younger cousin.

How about the Valiant we should have gone with, the B2, faster, longer range, heavier payload than B1, but as it turned out much more capable and better equipped at low level.

Best of all looked good as well.

Not seen SR53 mentioned, quirky concept but hellishly fast with rocket motor running.

Can somewon put me right, is Hydrogen, the same as what they called “Heavy water” as in the film, “The heros of Telemark”, if so, after all these years, we should have been using it years ago by now.

    Jim.

    Lincoln .7

“Heavy Water” was part of Germany’s nuclear weapons project, not too clear on the details but many felt that they were well on the way to producing a nuclear bomb.

The process of producing Hydrogen and Oxygen from water is a well known and relatively simple process, unfortunately the energy used to achieve this far exceeds the energy produced by it’s use as fuel.

I sincerely hope that there is a better method of producing Hydrogen because it would give a very clean fuel although quite volatile.

Had a good visit to a charity bookshop last week 🙂

Now reading ‘The cruel sea’ by N Monsarrat

Fiction – but given authenticity by the fact that Nicholas Monsarrat was an RNVR Lt Cdr corvette skipper !

Chose that book as a school prize more years ago than I care to think about, haven’t read it in ages, in fact thanks for reminding me that it is still in the dusty depths of my overflow book store ( attic ).

    Books with an aviation theme

    Try
Joint Force Harrier—- Harrier ops in Afghanistan
Spitfire by Leo McKinstry—-pretty obvious subject
Empire of The Clouds by James Hamilton-Paterson—Bit of a nostalgia fest for those of us not quite as young as we were, the only problem with the book it does arouse a certain urge to go out and look for politicians to shoot.
