That is a real shock. My sincerest condonences to Paul’s family – he will be greatly missed.
Show off 😉
Obviously from the grass roots side of aviation 😉
Sorry – just spent 3 hours painting our race car chassis and I think the fumes got me.
Roy.
You have a good memory there Dave. Nice to see that JPAC are studying the site.
Hi Adrian
That was indeed us. Here are some pics for you – we spent 8 hours in that air that day and were able to bring down around 2 tons of parts.
Descending onto that hillside felt a bit like landing on the moon…
Cheers
Hi Allison
Don’t worry – I am getting quite good at dealing with bossy nurses! The economics of the project mean that the large fuselage sections everyone will recognise will come a bit later.
Here are some pics of our outer wings in the meantime.
Cheers
Hi Allison
Looks like I have found someone keener than I am to see it finished 😉
Take a look at the website – it has been updated recently and has some pictures of some refurbished front turret parts.
We are slowly but surely getting there.
Hope the diving is going well.
Cheers
Well done futureshox – you found your crew! This is the first time I saw this after the good news so sorry if it’s a bit late 🙂
Nice pics Mike
Well done futureshox
I hope someone can help – a very good effort on your part.
Hello everybody, I’m resurrecting this thread to say that the photo seems to have been in most of the papers in East Anglia as far as I can tell! It’s in the current issue of the Bury Free Press. They contacted me to say that a Mrs Boyton though she recognised someone in it, although she doesn’t claim to own the picture. I spoke to her and she thinks the tall guy on the right is her uncle, Neville Elford.
Does a name help in tracking things down? If nobody else comes forward, Mrs Boyton is happy for me to take it up to the Rougham Tower Association for the museum there.
Thanks for posting that Moggy
It’s a very interesting pic… the aircraft looks amazing considering it’s been in the sea for so long. There was a ki-27 that came out of the sea off Thailand which is in similar – seemingly – excellent condition. Do you have any more pics, or perhaps close ups?
Bit late, but thought I would add a hearty hooray for the recovery of old swamp ghost.
Definately better off out of the swamp.
Fouga23 found it via google: http://www.piinc.biz/company.htm
It could just possibly be made of wood, but I doubt it. I emailed the site owner… he may have some answers.
messerschmitt9 – which web site did you source it from?
That’s a great link – thanks Curlyboy. Interesting to read about Rapid Rabbit and that it was supposed to ahve been buried!
I think all the blackbird remains were recovered as much as possible, the air force spent a small fortune raising the wreck of 974 from the south china sea, considering the naure of the blackbird and it’s mission they would want to protect it’s secrets at all cost.
For more info on survivors try http://www.blackbirds.net/sr71/srloc.html

Hello folks
No, the retired ones all found homes, I was wondering about those lost under non-operational conditions – there were quite a few and at least one A-12 or SR-71 dived into the ground completely buring itself, minus crew. That would be an interesting dig.
Doesn’t look like there are any remains lying around on the surface.
I don’t think any of them have…
That sounds really interesting. Is Petsamo included?
I would give this thread a little bump since the Wartime Airfields -project has been updated!
