My money is on lady be good – it was visited by numerous individuals over the years before recovery and ‘pulled about a bit’. There is a pic in circulation taken from a Vulcun I believe as it flew over – you can see the shadow over the wreck!
I’ll do my best Alan…
I’m not sure i’ll have any left by then!
Some part numbers would be handy… even off the brakes. Any more pics, or part numbers?
Hello everyone
it’s a bit late by the looks of things, but it’s not Whitley 🙂
They were used on Whitleys too. I am on the lookout for a set – have you come across any?
Hi Eddie
I don’t know i’m afraid, but it’s an interesting question. Deserves a second chance at an answer 😉
As far as the UV lights themselves go, they have ‘UV’ stamped on them and they look quite different to the standard cockpit lamps.
Hi Peter
That’s what I tought. Do you need one? It’s spare…
Cheers
Ell
Hi everyone
Here are some pics of parts of my FN16, currently under rebuild. As far as I know, Mike B and I have the only two examples in the world. I’m not sure how Mike’s ended up in Canada either, as they were only fitted to Whitleys.
According to my pal, when I last spoke to him, she’ll be given a good going over and then put on display at Wycombe Air Park.
Needs a lot of work, I climbed inside – in a clandestine fashion – last year and there was green slime everywhere.
:p
It’ll never fly again, the spar was cut before it went to Southend.
Think I know who’s behind this and, based on their past performance, it’s in safe hands.
Not a very well represented example in the UK, pleased her future is more secure…hopefully?
Hmm – seems to be a problem with piccies – I can still view them by clicking on the picture box. It’s too late to fix it now, but if it’s still not working tomorrow i’ll re-post them.
I have been told that the magnesium content was lower in navalised aircraft, the seafire included, for the sake of longevity.
This makes a lot of sense!
The stainless steel ribs in the rudder were a bit of a surprise to me, and I am wondering if any other airframe parts of the seafire (or sea hurricane) were stainless (usual fishplates excluded).
Cheers
Elliott
Many, many, years ago, whilst still at school, i picked up a piece of what i believe is/was aircraft on or near the old ww11 airfield at Allens Green near Sawbridgeworth, i recently found it in a box and wondered if it would be possible to identify it…its a section, roughly 5 by 8 inches, not that this helps, it consists of many small sections rivetted together, on one side which is bare ‘aluminium’ they are flush, the other they are mushroom, this side has remains of interior ? green paint, one part is a small, protruding triangle which could have been a mounting point ? it has 2 holes, also a few numbers, 63420, DR32189, TK52, plus what seems to be an N in a circle. there is a strange, flat, coiled rusted spring rivetted to main section. I believe there were such types as Lysander/Mustang,at this airfield? probably not enough info for identification, but i thought i would try!
Hi Bill
The coil spring you mention could possibly be part of a Dzus fastener, but pics would be the best way to confirm this. If that’s the case then it might be part of a cowling.
Thanks Anne
I have cleared the offending mails 🙂 It was found amongst a load of post war stuff so that’s not surprising, pity though as it looks a lot like a warbird spinner.
Thanks very much for checking
Elliott
Oi!…Elliot…Your PM file is full. You’re just too popular I guess.
Sorry to say that I’ve drawn a blank but the drawing numbers appear to be post war.
Anne.
Hi Roy
I’ll try and find the pics but they are quite far away at the moment. I think that Phil Earthey of Classic Aero had a bit of Seahawk.. maybe an arrestor hook or a hydraulic hand pump… been too long since I saw it i’m afraid.
Airsam may have some parts but they won’t be cheap :p
Hi Elliott, I believe DT only paid about 50 quid for it!
Sold it to me for a LOT more than that – swine.
If you have pics I would love to see them.
Cheers,
Roy.
Hi Roy
Well done for getting hold of the remains of this aircraft – I was there when it was auctioned – the bod who won it told me he only wanted it for the nose gear. It went quite cheaply, then the other parts of the aircraft (wings, tail etc.) were sold for around £5.00 each.
I have some pics of the auction somewhere…
Good luck
Elliott
However, if you have sea hawk cockpit parts, I need them!
Thanks,
Roy.
