Who was the previous owner I wonder?
Well done Erna – you have found a Hampden! Now which one is it? The coil stowage dataplate relates to the stowage of the coils for the T1083 wireless set.
Can you tell us the dates on the .303 rounds you have found?
I have had a few RAF aircraft panels with numbers hand painted on. They don’t need to be stenciled or stamped. It would be very nice if it was genuine.
Hi Caroline
Those part numbers will be Bendix ones, so you won’t find them in a Catalina parts catalogue i’m afraid. Have you tried over in WIX? I think they are your best bet for American items.
Hi Jabba
What material is it made from?
That’s quite a list of aircraft – nice to see he spent some time on 10 OTU as well.
Hi, I have just bought a 1932 MG car owned by Gordon McKenzie and it is the same man. I am currently trying to find out information from his nephew. The family have not talked about the incident, the only I go I have is that his death was no where near Liverpool!
Any chance of a pic of the car Ashley?
I think they are most likely Swordfish as you suggest
Hi Andy
It’s very decent of you to make your grandfathers logbook public – well done. Did he fly in any Whitley aircraft at all?
I don’t think English is his first language, that might be the reason – the pics seem pretty interesting to me…
Hi Jon
One of 200 HP Hampdens built by Handley Page at Cricklewood and delivered between June 1939 and Feb 1940. According to Harry Moyle’s Hampden File it served only with 408 Sqn and was coded ‘EQ-T’.
Cheers
Elliot
Can you say where you got it from? We might be able to tell you whether it’s likely to be genuine.
Hey guys – that Browning in the auction went for £480.
Yes, very much so – best to see the end result. As for the current value of a Browning – difficult. I would start at £500 and work upwards, maybe £1500 for a very good one on a good day. Don’t forget that those with history – esp from the Battle of Britain might command more.
What happened to all the Brownings dug up from Battle of Britain wrecks in the 70’s anyway? There should be hundreds in circulation…!
There’s one up for auction on 20th May.
Why not see what it goes for?
