Was priddy the person who shot it down perhaps?
Anyone know what happened to the wings?
Heading off soon – looks like to good weather :p
Oooh Whitley… how interesting. I will have to come along for sure 😉
It certainly does – well done to all concerned
The argument is CD that all the scrapyards were full to bursting. It also expect that scrap prices were at fairly low too.
What I can never understand about the things ‘chucked down mine-shafts’ is why wasn’t the stuff just scrapped in the usual way? Scrap metal usually has a value and the stuff used in trucks and (especially) aero-engines is usually of the highest quality so why not, if the stuff is on the back of a truck anyway, just drive it to the local scrapyard?
I also understand that it is very hard to argue with ‘first hand’ accounts of these things happening! 😉
Versuch – the RAF man in your pic looks like he may have broken his ankle. Any dates at all? I think he looks a bit old to be a fighter pilot.
I’ll give you a good price for it, but also do think of Hendon – I don’t know if they need one or not
The pic I have is poor, but it looks like HP Hampden to me.
It’s a Dowty product – a ‘thumb latch control lock’. The drawing I have (from 1940) has the latch and the lever for the u/c on the other side – I wonder if yours was mounted on the pilots R hand side? As for the aircraft, I don’t know – looks a bit different to the Hurricane II ones I have seen, so I would say an early war contemporary of the Hurricane. It’s not from a Defiant, Master or Spitfire either. Fairey Battle anyone?
I’d be grateful to see any you have really Tangmere, they don’t have to be new. I don’t think this excellent thread would be complete without some of the old classics…
Can I make a request for some more images of the Leaves Green Dornier please?
Thanks Aeropark
No thanks
I didn’t buy it but if you don’t mind waiting I can probably help you.
