Good evening all and thanks, once again, for all of your inputs to this small thread ! John Aeroclub, You still remain the main detective, and the person who astounds me the most !
nazca_steve, I hope you find some helpful items from 84 sqdn here ?
Ballykellybrat, Isn’t it so nice to be able to post a photo that means something to somebody ! It seems that so many of these photos that I have access to, seem to stir something within somebody ?
Tonight I have been trawling through this persons log book, and an entry jumped out at me ! …. see photo below …. look at the last entry 29 07 48 and the name of the pilot ???? Could this possibly be someone who went on be a name we all know and respect ???? This was possibly with 502 sqdn AAF.

Hi Matt, Well have fun with it ! I have no knowledge of other cameras, do any others tell you how many photos left ? does it not depend on the size of your memory card, and how you save the photos ? size, resolution etc ?
From my small experience with my D40x, at the Lowestoft airshow this year I had an empty 2Gb memory card and fully charged battery, taking photos all day, at fine, max size, it saved 634 photos to my card ! and the battery indicator lost one of five bars ! example below ! (mid way through the day).

John, your knowledge astounds me, It is so nice that you can pull all of those strings together !
Yes I too find this log book very interesting, my biggest regret is that the very part that may intrest you the most is missing ! the early days !
The log starts at 08.02.41 ! The reason, I think is explained below ?

Thanks John, Yes I wondered about the underwing markings ?
Tonight another one of the 53 pages from his log book, I have never studied a persons RAF career, untill now, but this page amazed me, I think it’s doodled in the back of the log book ? I am overwhelmed at the number of aircraft flown in, and even more at the number of airfields landed at !
Would this be normal ish for a person serving at this time ?
Another point, having tried, both myself and his family, to gain information ‘online’ pointing to him, there seems so little recorded of those who survived the conflict (except the legends, Bader etc.)
I rather hope this scan is readable ? … Keith.

Hi Andy, Sorry about that assumption, when I read of one being at CNAM, I rather assumed this was it, yes that pic was of a sneak preview I was offered of the Mick Jennings cockpit collection at Norwich in October.
So is there another Lightning cockpit (other than the complete Saudi) here at Norwich (if so I missed it on my visit) confused.com ???

I am sure I have seen Seaboard and Western (later Seaboard World) C-46’s at Heathrow in the early 60’s, doing freight runs for ???? I seem to remember a lot of blue smoke issueing from the engines during taxying !
This quote from the Seaboard website.

The Curtiss-Wright C-46 “Commando” was based primarily in Europe, and served as a feeder aircraft connecting Seaboard’s main European stations with smaller, outlying cities. The company operated a number of Commandos over two decades of service, but never more than two at a time.

This photo also from same website.

Hi people, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, I guess this is the cockpit of XS899, taken on 12.10.08. Sorry about the Tipsy Nipper frame …. Keith.

Once again thank you all for your input, very educational, and in supurb detail.
I have spent some time looking at photo 61 and the photo in Chumpy’s post, which the link leads to and, to my untrained eye, they look so similar, almost as if they were both taken at the same time ? same flight ? This I find so spooky, two photos coming together after 70+ years, everything seems the same even the shadow positions, aircraft etc !

So for this evening we have two air to air photo’s

This is titled ‘flight over the pyramids’
