    Anyway, back to the thread…

Spoke to said gentleman this evening and his answer to my question of “how did you manage to wangle that one then” was:

I then asked: ” where did you fly from then?” to which he replied: “Robin Hood airport – we took off and went to Shoreham, then to Southport and then Cholmondley Castle (the car event) and then back, over Lincoln and back to base. Flight took two and a half hours”.

Exactly what day are we talking about?
Shoreham and Southport on the same weekend? Hmmm why would they fly to both of those venues on the same day??

Ask him what route they flew from Shoreham to Southport and did they ask for anyones Radar/Control assistance along the way?

What do you reckon then, Chaps? Dogs Bo**ocks of a trip – or Bull**it?

    Sniff, sniff. I think I smell something:D

    Anon.

    Indeed you might!

    err, which ended on Sunday…

I think that was exactly what he was trying to make a joke out of it?
However for full correct completion, the OLYMPICS ended appx 4 or so weeks ago.
The PARALYMPICS are what ended on Sunday.

    V2 or V1 ?

Sorry was “I saw another artic lorry with what distinctly looked like a tarpaulin covered V2 rocket?” not quite clear enough?
Quite apart from the fact that a V1 would not need an artic to transport it.

could be Lashendon air warfare museum maned doodlebug that is coming back from long term restoratio. heard it was due back any time from Germany.

Routed to go to Kent via Cambridge is hardly an appropriate route if it’s come through from Felixstowe??
It would start off down the A12 not west along the A14.

For sheer emotional impact, you cannot beat this piece put together by funtimesteve.

    Just so moving

    Mike Pannell

Erm, not quite sure it’s that emotional as it appears to be mostly clips taken from the wartime Memphis Belle film with some different music to it!

It is a great piece of film.
I remember buying it about 30 years ago as a VHS video tape (which I still have somewhere along with a Night Bombers VHS video).
It was packaged as the second film of a two film video with the wartime Memphis Belle film.

Kudos to the finishers of “Marinell” for getting the USAAF insignia correct. Nobody else in these photos did!

    Hmmm really!
Interestingly you may or may not know that the two Mustangs and the Harvard are owned, were completley rebuilt and are operated by the same chap!

Excellent pics as usual Mr W

That mannequin looks like it’s just come off the set of a porn film!

Perhaps he’s also looking to change his handle to G-Spot Man 😀

It is important not to confuse aircraft that were ‘restored’ to the original type design standard and subsequently modified, with aircraft that are produced as facsimiles of the originals, e.g. with different engines, structures, systems etc.

Ironically, I believe it is the same going back in the opposite direction, ie; you have an aircraft that has been ‘modified’ with a different engine somewhere along its life and now you want to turn it back into the aircraft with its original powerplant and have to do this through a CAA mod approval. A point in case might be the Hangar 11 PRXI PL965 which I believe is now re-united with its original mark of engine, if not one of its actual original previously installed engines?

It wouldn’t stop the project, just make it significantly more complex / expensive.

Any variation from the type design standard would have to be covered by a minor / major mod application to the CAA.

Finding someone to do this is becoming increasingly difficult as organisations with the appropriate approvals are becoming few and far between. The organisation I have used in the past have relinquished there BCAR approvals as the cost of maintaining them was not worth it for the work they were getting.

Thanks for this and for informing some on here that may not know some of the difficulties ahead for them.
Personall, I am aware of the implications of what is involved and indeed agree that finding the right people/organisations/money etc and all the other things that they’ll have to get over, will either make them or break them, but this was not the intended ‘angle’ of my posting. perhaps i’ll need to try and make them clearer in the future.

Not quite sure I understand your response to my suggestion that the CAA would be keen to ensure its built as the type its serial number accords with. I am simply stating that if they register a night-fighter NF.36 then it would be sensible to re-build it as such – keeps the CAA and the punters happy!

    Thanks for the reply.
I agree it ‘might’ make for an easier route, but I suppose what I was simply trying to say was that if they have the funds, resources and all the right everything else, then it does not specifically matter and they could change it to what ever version they want to create. As I said further above, at the end of the day, all things, including this, will either make them or break them.

    I think they would…

    So what if they are?
I cannot see why that should stop this project as a reason in itself.
We all know of one full nose, (not just a front cone), re-build to fly project, using parts that were never fitted to an aircraft, but were in fact fitted to a car!
    The Mk IV Blenheim/Bolingbroke re-built to resemble a Mk I pray-tel?

Well I would not. I can still hear the one that rumbled over our roof as he bombed the village.

I’m sure you don’t, but equally some Germans might have the same opinion as you do, towards the recording that we have all thought so highly of!
But that doesn’t stop us listening to it. :p

Is there a similar recording of german bombers anywhere?
I’d be keen to hear the difference.

Oooh err, made my hairs stand up on end listening to that!
What greater contrasting sounds could one put together?
