I saw a TV programme recently on which he was talking about the cars he owns / has owned and flying was mentioned alot. He said that he decided to give up display flying after he went to an airshow and realised he didn’t know anyone there, he then stopped to think about all the people who weren’t there and realised most of them were dead.

It’s a shame but you cant blame him especially as he’s not long become a dad for the second time.

I remember reading in his Biography that he was hurt greatly by the loss of many Pilot friends, In particular it mentioned “Hoof” Proudfoot who i believe helped teach Gary Numan to Display fly.
I do miss seeing Gary Numan on the scene, He was very friendly when i met in at a Fighter meet at North Weald many years ago, And had time for people which was very nice to see.

Now there’s a show i would like to see again, It was written by John Sullivan who wrote “Only Fools and Horses” and “Citizen Smith” too.
Lets hope they do release it on DVD at some point, There’s quiet a market in putting old series out on DVD now so who knows.

The very fact that we are talking about this Statue proves that it works on one level and maybe has helped increase awareness of this illness.
I am not so sure on the Staue as a piece of art but as a statement it works i think.
It does not shame Churchill in my view, He will always be a hero and his place in History can never be denied. Depression is a terrible thing and people like Churchill and Spike Milligan are great examples of what you can achieve in your life with this illness, Its something else to overcome another wall to climb.
Its also intresting to note that History has many geniuses and great people had depression, It makes them no less great i think, And also is good inspiration for anybody who suffers with this illness.

I’m not sure of a specific one from me. Like others – different tunes have different memories.
One I do remember quite vividly was Radio 1’s news beat at the end of the Gulf War in 1990 (or was it ’91 – whatever) they did a bit with sound bites in from the whole conflict and the tune that was interspersed was Oleta Adams “Get Here” – It was well done and quite moving.

I remember a similar situation many years ago, It was 11th November and the Radio Stations were just observing the Two minutes silence, At the end of the Silence they Played “Brothers in Arms” by Dire Straits and at the point a Spitfire flew other my house that had been part of the Tribute at Biggin Hill, Amazingly moving and spine tingling moment.

Thanks for posting this news Grayfly, I read it earlier and just want to say, Best of luck to Stephen Grey and to all at TFC with the future projects, Its fair to say exciting and special times are ahead.
We all owe a lot to The Fighter Collection for giving us the chance to see such special Aircraft fly, We are lucky to have such a opportunity to have such a collection in the UK.

Its a pity about this “Free Bus Pass” ruling preventing Stephen Grey flying twin engined types, I can fully understand why he may pass on the Beaufighter project to someone else for this reason, As long as she flies somewhere in the world its great. As to “No Guts No Glory” shes the only Thunderbolt i have seen fly, So a Razor P-47G will be a treat to the eye.

Isn’t Alpha Foxtrot the one that those return Concorde ‘pie-in-the-skyers’ reckon will be returned to the air…… 😮
