I am going to go to the Isle of Wight event as i see it even if they have the same Aircraft flying as at Duxford at least its a new place to see them in.
As to Vintage jets it is true they get less bookings but it intrests me that free shows like Southend and Eastbourne regularly book Vintage jets but some other large events don’t,I am pleased to see Biggin Hill is booking the Sea Vixen again after the tragic events in 2001 .
There has been some hugely touching and emotional relies here especially Manonthefence,It is nice to hear what drives people outside aviation as well as inside,I do have a few Rainbows that i am chasing some are very far from Aviation some are pure Aviation.
Firstly Kev35 Sally B story reminds me of the honour i had through my work to meet a Blenhiem Pilot i used to see him catching a train everyday to go to Redhill to help out on the Airfield he was in his late 80s at the time,it was early morning 5am and one day i got talking to him he told me he goes to Redhill to help with the Tigermoth there but was a Blenhiem pilot he did not go in to too many details but told me of how many friends he had lost in the war i was very touched by what he said and admired him at his age still being so dovoted to Aircraft, sadly i do not know his name and have not seen him for a long time.
I also recently met a Lady who in WW2 was a translater for the RAF and used to have to translate and decode secret papers she was from Poland but came to the Uk age 15 she could speak 8 languages by the end of the war she did not even know english that well when she came here she told me it is all to easy to forget the part such people played in the War it was not all guns and bombs after all.
My Rainbows are
1) I want to honour my late Grandads part in the war he was in the Navy and served along side HMS Belfast on a ship either called the urchin or the Sea urchin,he never told much of his life in the Navy but one story i never forget was when he was on leave he went to visit my Nan who lived near Croydon Airport he was walking down the road to see her when he heard a strange noise the next thing he know was some one pulled him in to a shelter it turned out it was a V1 he had never seen or heard one before he was quiet proud of the fact he was carrying eggs at the time and did not break one!.
2) Is about me i want to get a photo of my published i am not good enough yet.
3)is i write poems or song lyrics i want to see or hear something i wrote published.
There my Rainbows at the moment i hope my messeage does not bore people i did not intend to write so much.

They are easy to install . I have installed several retro fits to commuter A/C. Just think about it. Very simple switch with a striker plate that is open when compressed, closed when the gear is fully extended. That doesn’t mean they are murphy proof. I know pilots that put the gear in the up position so exactly after takeoff the gear comes up. However if you hit a bump on the runway and the plane lifts the gear will fold.
Sounds like a dodgy practice to use this system in the way you say some pilots are,I can’t help but feel any pilot doing this is a Danger to him/herself and anyone else who may get in the Way.
Love or hate the organisation it was sad news to learn that Paul Bowen, head of the RIAT organisation is seriously ill.
I wish him well.
Hope he will be ok its awful to hear he is ill i wish him well.
Its starting to look like a good show.
So do Old Warden then. It’s always a good show.
How i get there by Train i don’t drive.
The debt we all owe to the Men and Women who fought to keep the free world free should never be forgotten i salute them all.
Just visited the Isle of Wight Airport site it has a listing of what Aircraft they have booked for the 5th and 6th of June its impressive,
it includes the following Warbirds
BBMF
Spiffires mk vb,mkix(MH434),mkviii,and Grace Spitfire(sunday Only)
Hurricane xii
Mustangs Janie and BBD
Harvard team(anyone know who this team is?)
P47 Thunderbolt
Fiat G46
DC3
Us Navy s3n
Has Duxford revealed what it has booked for the Sunday 6th June?,I plan to try and do both Sandown and Duxford that weekend.
Lastest word is that the jack screws that enable the gear broke on both sides! Could it be that the fatigue life of the metal was reached at the same time on both sides? Probably the weight of one collapsing killed the second.
Scott
If this is the case is there any risk to other B-17s flying at the moment i wonder or was it just a bad luck thing.
Duxfordhawk
Which one of you is coming?
The male me if that makes sense.
She is lovely would love to see her on the curcuit but i think she may be in need of a rebuild before that be possible seem to remember reading she is near to her fatigue index.
I too am tempted to hop over the Solent to visit this show it looks quite good a good few aircraft set to display most of which I would assume will also be flying at Duxford?
Its a busy weekend for many Warbirds it seems i am trying to get more information on the show before i decide,As to Old warden i will be going there this year for sure i got a new lense coming for my fuji s602 and would love to photo some of old wardens finest i confess i have never been there yet. 🙁
If you look very carefully (I viewed in full screen mode (right click, select zoom as the video plays)) You can see the main undercarriage – not sure what this might signify – but you can just see the starboard wheel sort of clunk forward and upward. I also think the tyre bursts simultaneously.
Its almost as if the brakes have locked on.
Rather hope she flies again soon its a shame to see a lovely aircraft have a mishap/misfortune like this.
Glad nobody was hurt and thankfully there was no fire.
Steve,
Ian was a real know Aerobatic pilot here in the North America.
Tragic news indeed from what i have read he was a great pilot and a nice man a sad loss,It sounds like in the USA you rated him like we rate Denny Dobson,Will Curtis,Paul Bonholme and Brian Lecomber it is easy to forget even in specialist Aircraft for aerobatics things can go wrong R.I.P Ian go fly with angels.
and boy, what a show it put on !!!
Time to buy lottos tickets !!!!
WE knew you would love her,I hope i will someday see her again.
