I thought at the time of the Firefly crash that Aerobatics in some warbirds should be stopped and more gentle routines flown its fair to say the Firefly did not crash in a Aerobatic manoeuvre but it was due to losing speed through the display,The fact is Ray is spot on about Energy management maybe we should be thinking of way to train younger pilots to fly these Aircraft by same methods instead of saying flat displays are way to go.

As for saying why do areobatics in them, thats what they’re bloody meant to do. Could you imagine being at Duxford seeing a very capable fighter just buzzing up and down in a straight line? It would be like watching paint dry

So Why cant we see a P 38 Or P 63 or Firefly Etc @ Duxford these dasy then?

    I wonder why……

Id rather watch ‘paint dry’ than nothing……

I was unfortunate enough to be a first hand witness to all 3 of the Aircraft you mentioned accidents everytime i have thought is it right that Warbirds do Aerobatics its my conclusion it that some aerobatics are ok we must remember that for one we do not own these Aircraft so really its not down to us to say whats done with them unless our safety is at risk,Also most people who go to Airshows will not stand there and watch any Warbird just fly up and down not all Airshow goers are fans like we are and without the ordinary public attending Airshows there would not be Airshows.

Just seen the moving images now – he really is one lucky man. From the commentary it sounds like the aircraft is an original restoration, not one of the new-build Yaks.

    Bloody fool.

Thats is truelly stupid flying the fact he got away with it is amazing but we don’t need pilots like that,Its worse he carried on afterwards but at least he had that chance many pilots don’t.

To me a Warbird is a fighter Aircraft from World War 2 up to the korean war,I would concider Jets such as Me262,Meteor,as Warbirds but jets such as Lightnings,Buccaneers and Hunters as Vintage jets,Things like L39s certainly are not warbirds and i debate whether they are Vintage jets.

Never forget turning up to Biggin some time in the early nineties, and walking from the car park (and walking, and walking…) to see Black 6 hammering down the runway at low level, announcing its arrival with that fabulous whistle – I’m getting shivers just reliving the memory, which is surely one of the reasons why these beasts should still be flying. Fabulous.

    Thanks for the shot, Jagdtiger!

I have to say my fondest memory of Black 6 was when she flew with BBMF and Black 2 at North Weald my other memory was when she displayed at Biggin when i saw the amount of oil leaking from her after the show she was a amazing aircraft she looks so sad at Hendon.
