But it does seem that this is possibly going to open a huge can of worms in the entertainment world.

I have a few issues with the whole thing, firstly I feel its unforgivable if stories are true that certain people who were very active in anti child abuse matters turned a blind eye to children being abused by BBC colleagues. That leaves me sick and cold that anyone could even turn a blind eye to such a thing. I just hope all those who did nothing can live with themselves

Jimmy is dead so is no longer really the issue here, But if its true that it was a culture of TV in the 70s and 80s we need to know the ones that are living, so justice can be seen to be done.

I am still very uncomfortable with TV being used as the medium for such crimes to be revealed, and want justice to be done through the courts not the TV and newspapers.

I loved the book as a child, but have never really got into the films, they are well filmed but a little too long overall.

As Esther Rantzen says, “The jury is no longer out”. Even if you discount the many other allegations.

I used to have a lot of respect for her and her Childline work, But having heard that she knew of rumours etc with this case I now feel repulsed by her.
Either she is jumping on the bandwagon or she in effect let children be abused either way she can not claim in moral high ground.

The women victims maybe,but I still feel that his colleagues are unforgivable as they would of let down so many victims and possibly allowed more victims to be harmed. Having been in a difficult situation myself where I had to report somebody to the police I can understand threats etc, but ultimately when children are involved or could be you do whats needed, icon or no icon charity money or no charity money.

Maybe I am being a bit harsh on them, but if the story is true not acting upon it makes you part of the problem.

Should we just say, the bloke is dead let sleeping dogs lie ? I don’t think so, would people have said that if he’d been a Catholic priest ?

I just feel that no justice can be served on a dead person, and in effect the revealing/claiming of any sexual assault only makes the “victims” have to re-live the nightmare but this time for a TV audience.

If any allegations are true the people alive now, the victims and his family are innocent,however I do feel that some of the people who are so happy to say he has done these things now are guilty for not speaking far sooner and maybe they need to be thinking what they could of done and what suffering may have been stopped etc.

If the stories are not true then a dead persons memory is blackened and his family put unfairly through the mill.
Either way this whole thing feels like car crash TV with no benefit to anyone, and no closure to anyone either.

I am not sure the story that they felt it was not possible to make these allegations while he was alive. After all in that around the same time both Gary Glitter and Johnathon King were exposed as child abusers, they were both big names and had charges and convictions through the courts. Both cases the press were more than willing to to print stories both before and after the convictions.

Its well reported that in the 60s and 70s in particular groupies were readily available around the stars groupie ages were debatable at time ,and I guess temptation was certainly pushed at times. If he had done something then the “victims” have had 30 years plus to seek justice, and choose a year after he has died on a TV programme, it just feels odd to me.

I am not sure I like a world where trial by TV is even carried out on the dead, and I can not see what is hoped to be gained from such a show.
