I had not thought of it that way but yes you are right both Privatisation and Nationalism has failed through our history and even now we are paying the price of that.
It maybe a case that we never have the right management structures in place to get such things done and also that the unions and managers can never agree so both pull the structure apart. Either way we can always be proud of the fact we can make a success in to a failure at the drop of a hat :D.
The problem being now is we do not have the scale of industry that we should and we become over reliant on things such as the banking industry for our wealth,and we all know what thats done to us.

I feel we have gone from Great Britain to Distinctly Average Britain over probably a little longer than my time on Earth so far.
I mostly feel we have declined as we no longer make anything here our car industry has gone, Aircraft industry has gone, Even our biggest food brands are often foreign owned. The privatisation of most of the UK industries during the 1980s and 1990s has had the effect of taking money away from the UK rather than the money being reinvested in Britain.
Im not sure if empire was ever Great in anything but name, But do feel the one thing we should be proud of in this country is despite the problems we are very multi-cultural and overall people here tolerate each other and can live side by side, And maybe the Empire has helped that happen a bit. It did however also cause millions of problems across the world that still unresolved so I hold back a bit to the GREAT with regards to the Empire.
We were Great when the Victorian engineers created so much, We were Great when we took on Nazi Germany, We were Great when we jointly with France built the only supersonic airliner, We were Great when British bands of the 60s took the world by storm. But after the 60s I see less greatness and maybe we peaked at that time, Or maybe our next peak is yet to come.
Im not saying theres nothing to be proud of there is, Just not in the same way as before, We no longer pioneers and often good ideas leave the UK before its possible to do anything here now.
Also its difficult to be objective when the country is in such a weak Economic state and the government is cutting back on anything and everything it can.
Maybe this is a question to ask if or when things pick up too.

The Big Picture – thank you – but this is how PL965 looked when she was in service with 2nd TAF in 1945, so that was the only choice of scheme for us. For some strange reason she has never been presented post resto like this until now.
She looks wonderful, Can’t wait to see her fly again soon.

I totally agree, It feels this government will do anything to save a few pieces of silver. Mind you that in the case of Nimrod included wasting lots of cash and then scrapping the project before anyone can do anything about it.
Sadly I honestly feel we could not protect the British Citizens of the Falklands now should Argentina decide to have another go, We can barely look after our own shores now let alone islands 1000s miles away:mad:

My problem with Peter Kay’s stand up is he has come over very lazy and turned out the same jokes over several DVDs, That I feel insults the public and his fans and he has become such a disapointment.
Father Ted is an interesting one as so many people have said the same opinion and only watched the one show and rated it as awful. I did become a fan of it after seeing a few episodes I find it a good bit of escapism really.
Sitcom wise until shows like “Miranda” and “Not going out” came around, I found very little of the more modern sitcom shows worth while, these two shows are not classics at all but are fun without being too vulgar.
This has to be a first for me, as apart from J Carrott, I agree with everything you have said.

I have huge respects for the Horsemen and was blown away when first saw their duo routine, The three ship routine feels less dynamic but still very impressive.
It would be nice if Princess Elizabeth was to return the UK with them, as she is a personal favourite of mine.
I also secretly hope with Pearl Harbor aniversary this year to see a Zero and it would be amazing to see a Mossie again.

My favorite memory of him was Donnington ’84, the ovation he got walking on stage, was something to behold, he wiped the floor with the rest of the acts, including Eddie van driver; a genuinely brilliant player, RIP Gary.
Much the same as Sky High, I meant he was underated by the public, He was never a household name like some of his peers despite having every inch of talent if not more than many of them.
Many people probably know his guitar work on songs, But don’t know its him.

duxfordhawkhe died aged 58, great rock guitarist ,Ex Thin Lizzy, his single “Parisian Walkways” is a classic and still sounds fresh today ,God Bless Mate.
Sad sad news, I was humming this song to myself when in Paris this new year.
He was an amazing and so underated guitarist. 58 is way too young to go.
