Maybe I should not really be commenting on this thread as I have a real hatred for all of the reality TV we have in this country lately and tend to avoid it like the plague.

But as I see it Simon Cowell is a very sharp and astute business man and the X-Factor is his vehicle in effect to promote and advertise what he wants the public to buy, And its neither here nor there for him as long as it makes him money.
The public vote is also another profit making thing and also helps to hype the show further, The controversy currently going around also will not really do the show harm as more people will watch this weekend.

Even if X-Factor ended tomorrow there is no way Simon Cowell will be crying over its demise, It would be naive to imagine he is driven by the music and not the profits, But in a way I say good luck to him he found a market and has been hugely successful at it, And its fair to say he is probably the biggest talent to come through the show.

I personally feel this show and many others are rather poor but I would not judge anybody on such a thing thats down personal preference and if the show remains popular it goes to show its giving the people what they want.

I personally would not want to see every Police officer carrying a gun, The current system of having specialist units that can be called upon when needed seems a far better idea to me.

If we were to arm all police officers we would run the risk of putting thousands of under trained trigger happy or nervous men and women on our streets, that’s not going to reduce crime and could lead to many innocent deaths,their is also an argument to say it would worsen crime as the criminals would also carry more weapons to defend themselves.

In the cities of Britain at least I think you can be very certain you are not that far away from a Police unit carrying guns, But its not as in your face as it maybe in other countries and lets hope it stays that way.

For me there is a difficult thing with this, Photos such as this leave me feeling rather empty as they show in the most graphic way the futility of war but I feel so many people will view them for the wrong reasons.

The danger with these photos is instead of them being seen as why we should not be fighting each other people will view them as a form of voyeurism and they will totally attract the wrong form of attention.
This does not show any respects to the gentleman who lost his life or any of his family and that troubles me badly.

I also think there is a tendency these days to want to show such photos to shock people, there was a photo in many newspapers around a week ago showing some gangland murder victim in a shopping trolley in Brazil, I could not help but think if that had been a UK murder victim that would not be allowed.

I just think we should show equal respect to all souls that have lost their lives and photos like this risk taking any respect away from them.

i was thinking of some of the things we have learned from tv over the years
note: this is very much toungue in cheek

1. Fools are to be pitied

2. No matter how hard or soft the impact, a crashing car will explode

3. A man can take the beating of his life without uttering a sound but will wince in pain when a woman tries to clean his wounds

4. no matter how bad the gridlock is, there will always be space for gigantic powerslides during high-speed chases

5. the hero always wins

6. anyone showing a picture of a loved one will die a brutal death shortly thereafter

I would add the following to that list,

1)Its OK for a forensic scientist to wear shed loads of make up and have hair uncovered.

2)The most obvious time to visit the grave to exhume the body is when its dark and often raining

3)Like wise if a place it haunted then its best to visit on a dark night

4)Anywhere that John Nettles live ends up with a huge crime rate

5)All crimes can be resolved just in time for the end of the show.

6)Everyone in the town or street will drink in the same pub.

7)If the car chase involves somebody who is trying to escape by aircraft they will always make it as far as the runway and normally attempt to take off before being caught, And such aircraft never need to wait for air traffic clearance.

8)Romantic shows and films will normally have a autumn scene in a park when the couple involved are going through hard times

There must be many more like these.

Its a great shame to see a Nobel prize awarded like this, Yes he is a breath of fresh air to politics and may well achieve great things, But I thought you get awarded for what you do not what you intend to do.

For that reason it devalues the whole Nobel organisation, I assume they just wanted to associate the award with him, But seems to me a mistake.
