I personally do not like grandstands and also feel they compromise the view for others who may have paid less BUT are still paying customers. Personally I feel if I want a good position on the flightline I get there early and then stay there, No windbreaks(or break winds :D) or stepladders with me, Just possibly my own collapsible chair ,What more could I need?.

Having said that Biggin Hill has had a grandstand for many years which is successful but its also at the far right of the display line and set slightly back so does not distract others, I think Duxford which has a shorter flightline would be a very different prospect and something I feel it does not need. Especially as some sections of the flightline are already reserved for various reasons, A grandstand would only add to the rest of the public being more cramped in.

I think Duxford has done a lot to provide more eating places and tend to think they do this really well. Yes toilets maybe do need some care and attention as have found these not to always be great, But no worse than any other show I have been to.

I have been going to Duxford since 1995 and have seen many improvements and add on’s in this time and the Airfield now feels like a modern public attraction with a historic flavour and that balance is about right.

Probably not since Mark Hanna’s display’s in the OFMC ex-Iraqi Fury back in the mid 90’s…?
Still vividly recall a Legends where Mark in the Fury and Stephen Grey in the Bearcat did a scintilating high speed tight pairs tail chase sequence back in the mid 90’s…. 😎

Yes I remember this routine too, Not sure on the year think 1995 and my mind kept thinking it was Ray not Mark.

I cannot see many if any American powered Furies/Sea Furies coming to the U.K for the British register as the CAA will view it as a major modification and want all the documentation and stress analysis .

Anybody know if or when we last had a American engined Fury/Sea fury display in the UK?.
I have done airshows for many years but feel fairly certain that until this years Legends I had not seen one fly. But I am just curious.

It was great to compare the sound, And the look, One the ground the 4 blade propeller on wright R3350 looks a little odd, Maybe because I am used to a 5 blade propeller on a Fury I don’t know. For sure in the air the Centaurus sounds nicer and smoother.

It was also nice to see Stephen Grey putting the Sea Fury through its paces, It has been a long time since I last saw such a high powered Sea Fury display the sound and sight was a pleasure.

Wonderful Aircraft hope the landing gear situation can be fixed soon. It was a pleasure to see her fly, And makes you realise how potent the FW190 was when in service.

Thanks for the kind comments guys, As to the white balance really the whole day was swapping and testing settings and ended up using 2 different white balances Cloud and Sunny I am not to certain what gave the greenish look, Worse still it does not show up as well on my monitor as it does on my friends.

The Hunter shot was nearly a missed shot there was a lot more sky behind it until I cropped it too, but the nose was in exactly the same place, So almost a wasted shot.
Planning a solo trip to legend tommorow and will be trying for decent prop blur there. Hope the weather be ok.

I am also on the optimistic side, And you can be certain the TFC team will be doing their best to solve any problems and find alternatives where the paperwork has tied the TFC aircraft to the ground, This challenge may make up for a very different Flying Legends and possibly provide something very special.

As always i am looking forward to this weekend and very much expect I will be having another lovely day at Duxford. Its also well worth remembering that even if some of the TFC stuff can not fly, They can still form part of the flightline as statics, And you can be sure you will see things at Duxford that you will not see anywhere else in 2009.

All I say is go along support and enjoy the show it will be something special.

Sorry for the digression. It just annoys me when people whinge because they won’t see a particular aircraft, or can’t get to a particular show. In the OP’s case he’s getting to at least three shows but the first two he’s already moaned about and the second isn’t till this weekend. Just be grateful for what you do get to see, enjoy it, cherish it, because for whatever reason it be might be the last you see, maybe not for ever but at least for a considerable time.

    Regards,

I fully understand your thoughts Kev, And feel lucky for every show I get to and every act or display I see, I make a point of watching everything that displays at a show I get to in case its my only chance to see, last chance to see etc, And I feel grateful for what I see. I also understand the frustration RobAnt is feeling as he wanted to see the Vulcan there.

Life has a funny way of arranging things, Myself I hope to go the Kemble never been before and its my wish to do there and Old Walden this year which I also have never visited. I have to be realistic I have had a year and a bit of major stomach problems and now I am having Knee problems which will probably mean far less standing in fields for me in the future, So I am going to try and enjoy what I can, And take the camera I bought everywhere possible.

I hope you get to another show sometime soon Kev and maybe see you there sometime.

But you would quite happily allow murderers, sorry, convicted murderers, to be subjected to medical testing? Like Josef Mengele and his highly intelligent, highly educated, supremely evil colleagues did? We could have a new labelling category on P.O.M.’s, “This cream has been tested on murderers.”

    Regards,

    kev35

I was maybe in a controversial area with this, but the connection with Nazi’s you make does not really ring true for me.
As I see it a murderer has taken away somebodies life along with all their rights and future hopes etc and altered the lives of anybody around the victim forever, By doing this they should also be giving up their own rights and now owe society something.

Currently we test new drugs, and other products on animals often whose DNA structure is not that close to our own, So the results may not always be the same when a product comes through to the human testing stage.
So why not start with humans at the first stage?

Imagine somebody like Myra Hindley had been used for research into a type of cancer, Such research could of saved thousands of people if it had led to a break through, Instead she has cost the tax payer and the country a fortune to keep with no payment back to society or to the families of the children she helped kill.

I know the idea is not everyones cup of tea, I also know it will never happen and the whole thing is not black and white. But I think a human should give up his/her rights once they have committed such a foul criminal act that took another’s life.

I personally do not approve of torture to obtain any confession in a criminal case, And personally feel that almost anybody would admit to any crime to stop the torture. Which means any confession would not be worth a thing and certainly could not be relied upon.

We have had cases in the past where people have been forced to confess then the case goes to court and is thrown out when the truth of how confession was gained is found out, Or the flip side the wrong person goes to jail for the crime leaving the real criminal out on the streets to reoffend.

There must be a better way to gain confessions, Maybe through a mixture of interview technques like psycho analising and possibly lie detectors(not seen as realible in the uk) along with normal questioning, I also would think in 2009 where we can do amazing things with DNA to prove somebody was involved that we should be able to get the right person more often.

I think the sad thing is after all the money spent bring the case to court and then putting the person in prison they can then be let out before the end of the official time set by the judge.
A sentence should be the exact time you spend in jail not 2/3rds of the time or something, And time off for good behaviour is stupid. They are criminals not school kids.

I would advocate chemical castration for sex criminals and peadophiles with the longest possible sentence served before any release.
Murders should spend life in jail unless there was curcumstances as to why they killed.
All prisoners would be required to pay society back somehow for the crime they committed, I would say life prisoners could be used for medical testing and alike as a way to pay back, prisoners serving less time could be used for more communtity projects anything that means they give something back to the society they offended against.

At the moment it feels like the criminal has more rights than the victim and those effected by the crime. That’s something that surely needs to change, Prison can not be a soft option anymore, It needs to be about punishment and rehabilitation and about making our justice system something people fear being involved in so acts as a deterrent to any possible offender. For me its non of these at the moment.

OK I wandered there a bit but basically I can not see any valid reason for torture in any case.
