No, but while others take it and fly on, I’ll still watch them display. I’d rather see a boring flypast than some thing akin to the above examples.
This is why I hate threads like this one, They become a ghoul fest and a twist of facts.
The fact is if something flies it CAN crash, In the same amount of years since the Invader crash how many Airlines have crashed?, How many light aircraft?, How many military aircraft?.
I bet a pound to the penny the figures are more than for vintage aircraft, Remember the ONLY reason most of these aircraft were restored is to fly them, If there was not a healthy vintage preservation movement bring these aircraft back to the skies many of these aircraft would almost certainly not exist or at least would not be in the condition they are.
In all this time how many people on the ground have been killed by these accidents?, Answer is NONE, The pilot knows the risk when he gets in the aircraft and does all he can to minimise the risk to both him/herself and more importantly to the people on the ground. Things can go wrong but then again life is about risk and how to reduce it, By the way flying in a straight line is not safer there are risks with this too, Basically a well flown display will be within the limit of both pilot and aircraft and use the basics of height for speed, Speed for height, Simple energy management.
Sadly I have witnessed 5 fatal accidents in my years going to airshows, But I am not jumping up and down to ban them, Rather the opposite,Accidents are awful and they have had a effect on me but I feel honoured to have seen things like Spitfires P-51s etc flying and the very fact I saw a Spitfire fly when I was a kid made me be intrested in the heroes of WW2 and led me to learn more, Hoe many other people can tell the same story, Plenty I am sure.
The Vampire crash was a fly past it got caught in the wake of the Vixen and sadly could not recover in time, The Mosquito was a engine problem, Remember the Mossie never looped or done anything in terms dangerous it was a unlucky accident and to be fair what made her special is the fact she was flying, With have Mosquito’s Museums and collections that are static already.
The way people write at times you would think a Warbird comes to grief everyday, The fact is accidents per the amount of aircraft flying are not that bad, We need to accept accidents happen in ALL forms of life and give a lot of respect to the pilots and owners who give us the chance to see these wonderful aircraft flying.
As I said in my first post I can see no reason to keep dragging up this Invader accident, It was a sad event that cost 7 people their lives 29 years ago and things have changed since then and just digging up other accidents that happened for different reasons proves nothing.

As for the comments you invited, Moggy….: fly, may and pigs are words that come to mind. But not neccesarily in that order!

The sound and picture quality of some of these not too great but I hope they give a idea of what Kelly was like live.
All I can say is he was a fine showman, Who had talent in heaps A gentleman who had time for his fans.
I know some people always felt that Kelly and the guys were wrong to carry on with the ELO sound when Jeff Lynne left, But Kelly was very much part of the sound the band had and it was not like Jeff Lynne was taking these songs to the people anymore.

duxfordhawkWartime Spitfire pilots that have impressed me when I’ve personally met or talked with include Bill “Hawkeye” Wells, Bill Kain and Alan Peart. Wells was a NZ ace, Alan wrote a fantastic book about his wartime.
One I never met but admire greatly is of course one of the greatest of the greats, Al Deere.
Modern day Spitfire pilots who have impressed me include Stephen Grey (first pilot I saw display a Spitfire); Ray Hanna of course (I never had the pleasure of seeing Mark in a Spitfire); Sir Tim Wallis, the late Tom Middleton, Keith Skilling, John lamont and Nigel thingy, the Red Bull and OFMC pilot who’s name escapes me suddenly. I’ve seen them all do very impressive displays, but then is it possible to do an unimpressive display in a Spitfire??

duxfordhawkI can understand it lower budget firms and TV show, But not in the higher budget movies. In big budget films it strikes me as lazy to not try and get things right, Mind you 99% of the public probably won’t know any different or really mind.
The land rovers in 633 squadron probably won’t be noticed by many people and I expect more time was spent arranging Mosquito’s for the film.
I would rather see a real Me108 rather than something computer generated, because I have yet to see anything from a computer that convinces me.

I didn’t know that there is something in the fine print saying all topics need to be positive with no bad ending. I really have to admit that this “out of sight, out of mind” policy regarding that topic on this forum is kinda strange. Just like any discussion regarding any other crash, be it the Man U crash in 58, DeHavilland’s crash in the DH108, or the Biggin Hill A-26 it is history, and shouldn’t be closed down. I had wondered what the Historic title meant, Do forgive me I have only been here 5 years, Yes I am being sarcastic.
But seriously I stand by what I have written, Yes THIS is history and YES history has sad events, But this thread is not adding any information that was not already available and it NOT teaching or informing people anything worthwhile.
There has been several accidents at airshows since then each one could be brought up in a thread and each one involves somebodies family or friends.
This should be remembered and trawling over the whys and hows 29 years later does not serve a purpose that I can think of.
If you do disagree with my opinion then fine, But respect the fact I should make it without sarcasm please.

I think now this whole thing should be consigned to history as I think its more morbid fascination that is fueling this than anything else. As the lessons were learnt long ago.
Nothing can change what happened then, So lets leave it in the 1980’s.
