Excellently timed photo there Lobster. That’s another incident that had slipped my mind.

Nowadays it’s arguably more likely for photos or film to be taken of such incidents – what with camera phones etc, and that for me makes it even more incredible when photos from the 1950’s or even earlier surface that were taken during such dramatic and relatively quick incidents!

CS, they have been granted permission by the CAA to conduct routine maintenance on the Vixen, as long as it’s under the watchful eye of PK until their own approvals come through. One of the ailerons has been removed and some niggles rectified, and they’ve also been looking into sourcing a spare engine and a supply of spare tyres!

Congratulations to Martin, that’s quite some personal achievement. I’ve met Martin only a couple of times when selling parts to ARC, but really appreciated the guided tour he gave me last year of their facility at Duxford!

The fire at the waste disposal site will be burning for several days and will be allowed to do so. The A505 was open and running as normal tonight.

If I remember correctly, they had the bomb doors from the spares ship at Lossie? James (Username escapes me?)who used to post on here will know more.

That’ll be pagen01 who used to post on here. I believe young James was connected to this particular Shack in more ways than one.
Would be a great shame to see this one scrapped, as the type doesn’t seem to be fairing to well what with Long Marstons Shackleton dieing a slow death, Duxfords MR.3 going into storage dismantled and the two examples in Cyprus facing an ever uncertain future!

Hi Chris, you could ask to join the RAF West Raynham Facebook group who recently managed to raise the necessary funds from donations and sales of badges etc to erect a very fitting memorial there, and who from time to time have strictly controlled walkabouts for associated members. But the site itself is privately owned and now strictly off limits for members of the public without prior permission.

Duxford Tuesday 11th November:

Forty years ago today, Lightning F.1A XM135 was flown into Duxford to join the growing IWM collection.

For once, Duxman can’t provide a delivery photo! (Video of the landing in dreadful weather exists)

Would love to see that, as I always thought she was roaded in!

Very nice prop, John. My advice is to fix it to a flat base such as a piece of mdf and display it free standing vertically, maybe with a photo of an FR.47 Seafire. It’ll make a great talking point!
