Off topic I know but the mention of Keith Sissons reminds me that he was one of a pair of pilots for the Duxford based Catalina that I saw interviewed on TV the other day. Good to see he is still flying after so many years previously at the helm of Sally B.

Whether it was successful or not you’ve gotta love the brutish looking P-61. Interesting that they also have a mural in the background depicting a couple in flight.

    Nice photos.

That would be done by Colton Aviation who had a great reputation. I last flew in during 2005. The runway was perfectly usable.

With respect I doubt you were flying a Hunter at the time. Yes I’d seen the runway and although it was some fifteen years later I found it quite staggering that a Hunter could get down on there safely. But I guess it must of happened hence the photo and caption!

Would still love to see any piccies of it happening.

This also reminds me that I recently saw an airborne photo of Hawker Hunter G-HUNT from the very early 80’s with the caption “Ferry to Little Staughton for repaint”. I never realised that this was even possible given the condition of the runway (admittedly I only saw the runway in the mid 90’s) but I’d would love to see any pics of her actually there if anyone has any!?

Agreed. Very refreshing colour scheme for a Hurri.

That’s pretty good going, so all three airframes have now been saved for preservation!

For me the Canberra, Vulcan, Gnat pair display, Sea Vixen and of course the two Lancs at Great Gransden were highlights. Have to say I also enjoyed the Jet Provost pair at Duxford. Also went into Legends just to see the P-26 Peashooter, a type that was new to me ‘in the flesh’ so to speak.

Hmm, I wonder if the same fuss would of been made had Don Brooks B-17 ‘Liberty Belle’ blown an engine during its transatlantic crossing and tour a few years ago?
