And based on a pilots experience then surely flying a Vampire is ‘easier’ than a Hunter, is it not? I’ll admit that the Goblin engine needs more anticipation of developing situations due to its slower spool up speed, but the airspeed differential between the two types surely makes the Hunter more ‘hot’, and one for the more experienced pilot!
And i have to agree with Bruce on the exclusivity point. How many Vampire’s are there airworthy in the UK compared to say JP’s, or indeed Hunters?
Again og158, i’m not really in a position to say for sure, as i’m not connected in any way with the aircraft or Personal Plane Services. But yes as far as i’m aware it is still at Booker with PPS. If not, then i’m sure a more learned member of the forum will be along shortly to put me right! 🙂

Mark, Can’t really help with photos or actual schemes i’m afraid, but i have fond memories of this wonderful aeroplane in the skies overhead when operated by the RFC at Bourn airfield nr Cambridge back in the eighties. And i would just like to thank you for saving the Sea Prince, and wish you well and good luck in returning her to where she belongs… in the skies over Britain.! 😎
Rob
I’m afraid ole chap thats beyond my knowledge. But i think its being rebuilt to airworthy standards for now, so that when certain issues regarding returning its Napier Sabre engine to an acceptably reliable standard for flight have been addressed, the rest of the airframe will be ready for it… so to speak.!
Rob
Good detective work James. A very interesting read/document that i havn’t seen before!
Rob
From the horses mouth so to speak. Thanks XH668, i was hoping you would come along and confirm!
Rob
Thanks Martin. Understandable i guess, given the types extra performance.
Rob
Interesting, thanks DB. So can anyone confirm or not about the NW T.11’s seats being inert, or the Classic flights T.55?
Rob
I think to airworthy standards, but not actually to fly in the near future.
Rob
Think you had better ask Mr Howard that one yourself :p. But personally i’ve always liked the Admirals Barge colour scheme.
And as for the asking price, well, while i’m gracing the skies in it most of you lot will be stuck on terra-firma, and STILL saving for your own airworthy Spit 😀
On a more serious note, i wonder if there are many other airworthy Vamps with live bang seats. Pretty sure the North Weald T.11 hasn’t, or is that because its in the UK?
Rob
Bucker Jungmann………… Vorsprung Durch Technik 😀

Got held up at the Sawston roundabout for the Olympics flame convoy coming from Saffron Walden way. An escort of six Police outriders and a patrol car seemed abit OTT for an over size swan vesta.
Rob
At a guess, replica Spitfire + Landrover Discovery = SPITFIREMAN 🙂
Rob
Makes you wonder just what cockpit sections there are in private hands in the USA. The possibilities are mouth watering!
Hmm.. i wonder if anyone has a Vought F7U Cutlass cockpit in their collection? 🙂
Rob
So do i ;). Its one of the aeroplanes that i have always wanted to see and hear in the flesh.!
