True James, but have you seen pics of Firebrands fitted with wheels without the valve hole, and i don’t mean the very early examples as they are completely different?!

No reason why not Rob, AH8208 were fitted to all the types mentioned, on some of the types it was superceded by AH8379 which looks identical apart from the valve hole moved to the raised part of the spokes.

Thats what i’m going by James, as all Firebrand pics i have seen the wheels have the valve protruding through a hole on one of the ‘spokes’. These, together with the tyre tread pattern don’t look FB to me .!

Surely both the pilot and co-pilot are culpable in circumstances like these?

Have to say i feel rather sorry for the flight crew who did everything they could and kept their cool under pressure. They feathered and shut down the offending engine as soon as possible, spotted and made use of a suitable field to land in, got her down on her wheels in one piece and managed to stop, then proceeded to get everyone out safely. But in the end could do nothing to save the aircraft itself once it was on the ground.

That is a very very sad sight to see. Such a beautiful aeroplane.
Makes the bottles of Bomber beer given to me by her captain at Duxford that were carried in her fuselage seem very poignant.!

What a poorer place we live in these days, without the sight and SOUND of the likes of Cargomasters, Globemasters and C97’s.
    Thanks for posting these.

Very nice Flanker man. Had no idea AA still had a Electra earning its keep.

I still don’t get why the unique BP.111 is kept outside though. Must be a question of space inside being at a premium i guess. But having said that i believe this is one of the most significant collections of military jets in the country.!

Two Hercules and two King Airs in formation just south of Duxford, heading east.

Edit. Obviously part of the Queens birthday flypast; “Third element is to be two C130 aircraft provided by RAF Lyneham escorted by two King Air provided by RAF Cranwell”.

Hi Rob, there is a thread on Merryfield at AIX here, http://www.airfieldinformationexchange.org/community/showthread.php?98-Merryfield.
I can’t view pics at the mo so not sure how useful it is.

Thanks James. Don’t want to hijack the thread but looking at that aerial view of Merryfield do you know where the Westland works was located on the airfield as regards flight testing?
