You’re welcome.
However, beware of what you read – perception is the truth … :)-
Yes.. thats why i asked the original question… i had both engines listed as being used and wasn’t sure if that was correct.
Only £9.99 each.. bargain.! Seriously though that is some superb detailed modelling.
Chox, without wanting to hijack this thread a similar idea was started by Mark Hanna & Co in the nineties, namely the Classic Jets Display. For the life of me i cannot remember, or maybe don’t know, why it never carried on after only one or two displays. As someone said Kemble is as close as we have to this at the moment.. and i must admit that this years was indeed a fine display for those like me who love classic jets.!
Mike, as i understand it there are at least five complete airframes still in existence.. one was airworthy and another is being restored to fly.
Incidentally i never knew the Twin Mustang had Allison instead of Packard Merlin engines.
Edit. Were they Allisons or Merlins… anyone.?
I believe Dave Gibbings (judwin) has taken on Fred’s role at Westlands.!
What is really out there..?
I wonder if its a case of nothing still exists, or whether people prefer to keep quiet about what they actually have. Without straying too far off thread i for one would dearly like to know what is out there regarding the Wyvern and the Whirlwind.. and other types, even if its not for sale… but just to get an idea of what has actually survived.
I can understand to a degree that collectors don’t want to give away too much info on what they have for fear of burglary etc, but maybe a ‘i know where there is a ****’ wouldn’t give too much away.
Its so frustrating all this talk of resurrecting extinct aircraft types when for all we know there is enough out there to resurrect one without having to go down the ‘replica road’.!
And to put my money where my mouth is the majority of what i have accumulated regarding the Wyvern can be seen in my profile ‘whats left’ album.
I believe 64 sqdn had Javelins at Duxford from 1959 – 61… maybe worth contacting the IWM there.!
Judging by your pics your sending it back…:D.
Ok back on thread.. will someone please get an F-82 Twin Mustang flying and bring her over for FL… i just love the weird and unconventional (aircraft).
Ok thanks LL… i wasn’t sure if the RAF museum had anything substantial tucked away.
ps.. any pics around of the surviving rear fuselage.?
Not sure if this has already been asked, but any ideas whats left of Whirlwind 1’s… for instance are there any wings, fuselage etc or are we talking small components only.?
I did see that one mate, I was thinking though, that the IWM example wouldnt be easily obtainable?
I always figured getting an aircraft from a private collection/smaller museum would be easier than getting one from say, the IWM?
No problem.. although to be honest i doubt if any other Javelin would be in any fit state to return to flight. Most seem to have graced a gate outside at some point, and even the ex A&AEE Duxford example has spent quite abit of time outside in the past. But if money was no object, then anything is possible. 😉
Rob.
out of the remaining airframes, realistically which would be the most viable?
I guess we have the Beaufighter to look forward to in this country.
Sadly probably not James.. TFC have major problems locating serviceable prop hubs and engines. I spoke to one of their engineers at Dx and he told me they had even investigated digs and recovered hubs from crash sites… but nothing thus far is serviceable.
He also said that if she had a blow-out on landing that would be it, as they have no other mainwheel tyres.
Legends wishlist..
For someone to come up with some decent prop hubs, engines and spares for the Beau. If that got off the ground i think the rest would be irrelevant.!
