Well my hopes were certainly raised when Mike Beachy-Head acquired a Javelin and had it shipped over to South Africa. Sadly i believe it was just for static display.. but to be honest it would take someone of his means and position to even contemplate such a project as getting a Javelin flying again.
The best airframe for possibly doing so has to be Duxfords, which made the last flight of the type back in 1975.

I am absolutely gutted at that news. I was due to speak to Fred this month and hopefully meet up with him to discuss the Wyvern. Fred was a mine of information on the Wyvern and had been with the design team from the beginning, and it was only recently that i had started to discuss certain things with him about the aircraft and dip into his mine of information.
And although i knew he was suffering with his health i had no idea it was so serious.

A great loss to Westlands and the general aviation community. RIP Sir…

Shame the TFC Grumman F7F Tigercat is no longer in this country.. as seeing the Po-2 reminds me of a certain Korean war aerial victory, scored by a US Navy Tigercat shooting down a North Korean Po-2. Could have made an intersting airshow double act.!

Let me posit a further thought if I may:

What if no tangible remains of the pilots can be found in the aircraft, or in the immediate area? Are the aircraft not then de facto coffins?; they in effect contain all that remains of the pilot, even if that is now microscopic parts. Should they then be moved?

The Corsair is a well understood aircraft – do we really need to recover another one?

I must admit that is one thing i have been wondering in all this.. where in relation to the aircraft are the remains of the pilots.?.. or have i missed something.

As for the planes themselves.. i don’t think these are just any Corsairs, beautifully preserved and totally original examples don’t come along very often surely.!
