People who ‘live history’, or in layman’s terms, people wot dress up in old clothes
Excellent looking FSM, what is the event at Hendon BTW?
The Hendon Pageant, a living history festival – WW1 alone there’s going to be about 11 Royal Flying Corps living historians
The O/400 had a range of 780 miles – either way the O/100 and O/400 would have a hard job being the largest bombers in the RFC as they never served with the Royal Flying Corps
The O/100 and O/400 were about half as big as the V/1500, they had 2 engines whilst the V/1500 had four (and was the first British bomber to have 4 engines)
I’ve been researching the Handley Pages in WW1 for nearly 2 years, so I did realise that, and I wasn’t aware that size and engine numbers decided as to whether it’s a strategic bomber or not……
How was the V/1500 the first strategic bomber – what about the O/100 and O/400?
See you there at Hendon – i’ll be one of the Royal Flying Corps Air Mechanics
I was at Woburn Abbey over the weekend for the ‘Woburn through the ages’ event, on the Saturday a Rapide flew over both ways at roughly 1030 and 1700 (no idea of actual timing as I didn’t have a watch with me), as well as a Tiger Moth both ways on Saturday and only one way on the Sunday morning, any idea which ones and where to? Presuming the Rapide originated from Coventry
Would be there with these guys http://www.43rdrecce.co.uk/ but i’m doing a WW1 event with other vehicles the same weekend, shame the two clash as both would be the highlights of the year.
Having spent the vast majority of my formative years living in Merseyside -the notion of Hendon /Colindale being ‘run down’ isn’t quite the same vista as the ‘up North’ version of ‘run down’ !!!!
Try living there for a year
I feel I must reply to being chastened by Tangmere 1940 (for whom I have a great respect). Whilst his defence of the young lady is laudable I would ask the question how is she qualified to appear sloppily dressed and pontificate upon the great icons of early air warfare. Perhaps she has a copy of “High in the Empty Blue” to refer to. And yes I saw the equally awful “Aces”.
How on earth does it matter if she’s ‘sloppily dressed’?! Is her view only worth listening to if she’s wearing a suit? I’m sure she does have a copy of ‘High in the empty blue’ as the author of it knows her – http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=147566&view=findpost&p=1420043
Anyone else need petrol tins or ammo boxes moving, or aircraft pulling, or putting wet bits of paper on string? I’m yer man!
The most likely person to have shot him down did it with one of many .303 rounds, a Lewis gunner on the ground, also an Australian I believe – other options were Brown, a Vickers gunner, a Lewis gunner and various others popping away with SMLE’s – all of whom were of course using .303 rounds!
Great news
Can anyone suggest a collective noun for Proctors?
Following on from the RFC’s collective noun for Albatros – Proctii?
Starred in eh:rolleyes: Must get your autograph when i see you next:D
See you on Sunday then, i’ve even got a nice authentic pencil with me 😀
