When the oil runs out i would have thought all helicopter operations would end, if theres nothing to fuel them with or keep the moving parts properly greased and lubricated if need be.

Yeah the Harvards in Das Boot ruined it a bit for me, a Catalina would have been much more realistic, and cooler! There would have been at least one flying in England at the time, and wouldn’t have to repaint it either. They were also in the bombing run at the end which was a dissapointment, could have at least used models

Not many, but my great grand dad comes to mind.Sailor in the Royal Navy,World war 2.Boiler room stoker on a battleship & got sunk when a German torpedo hit the boiler room, with him in it.He was fine.
He worked his way up from an enlisted sailor to an officer.Lieutenant-commander with his own ship.Got an old black & white photo in officer uniform somewhere.

Crikey 😮 wasn’t the HMS Hood was it? There were only three survivors, and one of them survived pretty much exactly how your great grandad did. Apart from Hood i think only one other British Battleship in WW2 got sunk

Doubt it, judging by the way the guy talked it was in America, although i believe theres a Stuka restoration going on somewhere in England. To me it’s just another of those ‘Best ***’, ‘Worlds greatest ***’ or ‘Most famous ***’ TV companies churn out because it’s cheaper than making real television.

Grandad – Royal Artillery on 3.7inch AA guns, regiment destroyed at Tobruk, after using the guns in an anti-tank role, one of the last few out just before the second battle of Tobruk, also seen him on a World at War series gathering around Churchill, and instead of giving the V sign to him sticking his two fingers up at him! Sadly died before i was born

Great uncle in the SAS or similar special forces, most likely either LRDG if not SAS, never talked about it. Died when i was young, but still remember him.

Thats all i know about, although we are researching what my other relatives did.

Saw the Huey yesterday flying into Cov airport, not sure why but she looked and sounded great. Saw her coming in and thought it looked/sounded like a Huey but doubted it, then it got closer and saw her, great stuff.

I also think theres a Whirlwind HAR.10 in yellow SAR colours in Ireland.

Also the British offerings such as Airline, Wings, Flambards, Piece of Cake, Pathfinder, we’ll meet again to name but a few!!!!!

I’d love to see these, as i was born to late to see them, or at least remember them. Would be great to see some interesting programmes rather than the garbage they tend to churn out nowadays
