For me it has to be when i visited Bruntingthorpe with my dad, must be about 5 years ago or so, just for a casual visit, and to our surprise Canberra WK163 was standing there on the runway about to take off! When she did she gave me and my dad an excellent display of several high speed low altitude passes, just above the deck! Not strictly an airshow but a very impressive site! My second most memorable one was the Coventry classics airshow back in 2003, was my first and so far only proper airshow, but also ended in sadness as the Spirit of St Louis replica crashed, i’ll never forget the horror of watching it take off, then the wing snap off the fuselage and watching the pain slowly spiral down, it didn’t seem real
Cheers, i’m currently learning to drive and when i’ve done this and got a car i plan to help out at an aviation museum/project, i’m currently trying to decide which one. MaM is one of the options, and so far its winning (i.e. need of help, location e.t.c.), maybe i could ‘adopt’ an aircraft like several volunteers have…. hmmm choices choices. Do you know if the chap fixing up the Canberra will be there next weekend? I’m thinking of going and having a quick look after work and wouldn’t mind a look in the Canberra if possible
Ouch, that would have been brilliant! Ah well, still looking forward to it being built, mostly to see the Twin Pin and Valiant
Okay here goes, was basically a military vehicle event with re-enactors, quite a few vehicles including half tracks and tanks, and they put on a very good re-enactment battle, the best i’ve seen. At 1400 a Mustang, think it was Janie, did an amazing display and then left, and about 15 minutes – half an hour later the DC-3 did an equally amazing display. Waited around until the second Mustang and Thunderbolt were to display, but came over on the commentary that because of the weather over Duxford they weren’t able to make it and had to turn back, a Mk IX Spitfire was also booked but that didn’t turn up.
Apparently on the Sunday only the Dakota turned up but put on a great display. All in all i thought it was very good with the mix of military vehicles, re-enactors and WW2 Aircraft, hopefully there will be another one next year.
Also on display near the stalls was a Harrier Gr.3 cockpit, ID unknown as of yet.
Very nice, she put on a great display, pretty much as good as the Mustang! Too bad my pics were awful.
After the aircraft currently being repainted have been, whats next? Apparently the Prentice and Argosy are in quite bad shape. Hopefully the Hunter will come in from the elements when the new hangar is built, it’s a fantastic museum
Yeah it would be nice, but hopefully as shown in the latest Flypast mag the radar identifier models made of USSR aircraft should fill this gap.
Yep me, although you already know that :p Guessing your after the details of the Harrier cockpit still? I’ll ask one of the organisers ASAP.
Looks fantastic, might be going next weekend so i’ll get plenty of pics then.
B29 Superfortress? That came into production before the Super Cub and Super Constellation, right?
I believe the Beaufighter won’t be worked on properly until the Sea Fury and Gladiator are done first. As for the ARCO Blenheim, anyone know what’s going on with what mark it will represent yet?
Does any one know anything about the strange looking WW1 tank full of holes and in German markings stuck in a bush at the side of the tank hall?
Didn’t leave till 5:45 but had no trouble getting out.
Yep, that’s a replica (wooden i think) of a British WW1 tank captured by the Germans and used against us, it’s for the movie ‘Fly boys’, which looks to be an excellent film about the Lafayette Escadrille during WWI.
Sweet, maybe i’ll get a nice Hurricane of my own after all 😀 Apparently aircraft in the desert will be in a really good condition, my Uncle went to the North African desert a few years back and noted seeing a lot of Matilda tanks e.t.c lying in the desert, pretty much in the same condition as they were when they were knocked out, something about metal not rusting in the desert. Wouldn’t it be great to find a squadron of Me 110’s left in the Desert 😀
For those who thought yesterday was bad value, be glad you didn’t go today. Just spoken to Nick and the sum total of today’s entertainment has been…
1) RAF Chinook
2) Chipmunk…and that’s it… and to be honest given the weather I think that was impressive!
Ouch, two aircraft! Surprised there weren’t riots! 😮
Moans: People are becoming ruder. Mrs Moggy is only a tad over five foot tall and spent the day being barged and shoved, particularly around the tat stalls.
And, having stood / walked for most of the day, when her back started to ache, we opted to sit on the chairs in the FlyPast enclosure for the finale. As it had rained a lot of the seats had puddles of water on them. She found one that was dryish, shortly after a fat beardy bloke who’d been off to the bog came back and told her to move off ‘his’ chair. One of nature’s gentlemen.
Moggy
Pfft, didn’t you realise that under 18’s, females and elderly people have no interest whatsoever in aviation and therefore anyone that doesn’t fit into the category can push them out the way or do what they like :p Obviously i’m not referring to anyone here (that i know of) or the vast majority of people, but that’s the way i tend to great treated and see people treated by some idiots at airshows, it does my head in no end and ruins an otherwise good day for me.
