Thanks for sharing, it certainly is a wonderful place. It’ll be even more period next weekend when me and others are there in RFC uniform
I thought it wasn’t an FB5 Gunbus, but actually the RAFM’s FE2?
Be fantastic if true, one of my favourite aircraft and an interesting service career too
He’s got a point, it IS a bad location for an airport.
And what would you e-mail him to upset him? Why would you want to do that, because he has a different opinion?
Haha, looks great!

Someone mentioned Alexandra Churchill, its very refreshing to see a young aviation historian perpetuating the memory of the World War pilots.
And such an atractrive one too!!:D
No one ever says the same about me! :p
Mark, i’d be happy to e-mail you the full size photo of the Auster taking off with the Victor in the foreground, just PM me your e-mail address.
Cheers, Rob
If the National Trust can use volunteers to open their properties to the public , why couldn’t the RAFM use volunteers to ensure that all their galleries at Hendon are open all the time – or does nobody want to volunteer there?
When I used to live next to Hendon, in the old Officers Mess, I was interested in volunteering – helping maintain exhibits etc, restore parts, that sort of thing, or even helping to keep the CGW hangar open. In the end, I was trying to be talked into giving guided tours around the Bomber Command hall
No worries mate, good to see the QRA hangar up close, looks stunning with the two Lightnings in there. Certainly noisy, was on the verge of putting my fingers in my ears all the way at the SRA!
Multi tasking, laptops are a wonderful thing! Currently watching the ‘extra’ after playing the red button, can’t get enough SE5A action
15 minutes in and thoroughly enjoying it – presumably the Fe2 being fitted with a Lewis Gun at Guy Black’s place is the RAF Museum’s?
The majority of the winners of the King’s Cup Air Race!

The Auster Alpha which won the 1956 race is preserved in the Charnwood Museum
Reminder set, looking forward to it
Hi Gary, there’s a photograph in my Grandad’s photo album of his service in North Africa with a Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, and one of them shows an RAF Liberator landing – would this be of use for your website?
It’s dark for the showing of the ‘Their Finest Hour’ film and light show which also uses the Spitfire and Hurricane. However, as already mentioned, it’s being altered in the refurbishment of the Battle of Britain hall over the next few months
