Rumour has it there will be two FE2b’s at the Omaka airshow next year. Plus in the UK, RAFM’s FE2b should be completed, rumoured to go to Hendon
MF1 certainly was – features at the end of the 1996 Wind in the Willows film, which starred the Monty Python cast. Not that I own it on DVD or anything….
Not knowing how many replica Fokker Eindeckers there are in the UK, there’s could have been one of the German aircraft in ‘Aces High’? Makes sense, especially as they’re based at Booker which is where the RFC aerodrome in Aces High was situated
Also, according to G-INFO, the owners, Bianchi Aviation Film Services, there’s two Stampe SV4’s owned by them, G-AWXZ and G-BYDK. Also a hot air balloon, too
Looks great, well done!
According to several websites, RAFM Hendon has a Proctor III, Z7197. Don’t recall ever seeing one there – is it still there, or has it gone somewhere else?
XP345 is the Whirlwind HAR10 at Aeroventure being restored to a very nice grey/green UN colour scheme
Speaking of Whirlwinds – I met an ex-RAF man once, who told me had a ride in a Whirlwind on the (or one of the) last service flights of the type, in Cyprus I believe. Apparently the pilot came down a bit too hard, IIRC damaged the undercarriage and fell over, ending up on its side. Can anyone confirm this, or have any more details of the incident?
For some reason the video won’t load for me – anyone know when it’s supposed to move back into Hendon? I’ll be heading back down there sometime over Christmas/new year
You must have an extremely large and robust shelf!
Very – there’s a Roland C.II as well! 😉
Like this?
Cracking colour scheme – same as the one sat on my shelf!
Just had a quick glance at my bookshelf, and noticed the name of the author of ‘Pi in the Sky’ – WFJ Harvey! Is that the Harvey you were referring to? Removal of the twin Lewis’ would be interesting, as the Hendon Biff is based on this aircraft – accurate, except in this photo the Biff has twin Lewis’ (Lewii?)

IWM photo, and my photo of it was taken at the Shuttleworth Collection
Sorry about the late reply, just finished a nice stressful flat move! Thanks for the interesting post – have to admit I don’t recognise the name Harvey, was he a 22 Squadron chap? Interesting that the propeller rotates a different way, hadn’t noticed that before, and explains the arrows painted onto it.
Pretty certain the Canberra was also stuck outside at the top before the NCWM. Also, the Varsity is now indoors after being outside
Yep, that’s MIRA, ex- RAF Nuneaton. My friend lives in the nearby village, and my brother plays football there. Some veeery interesting vehicles to be seen around there…
Re Vomit Comets, Phantax is absolutely right. I grew up in the Nimrod fraternity and have had many sorties on them, but never heard it referred to as the ‘Vomit Comet’ until forums began!
Well, one crew I flew with definitely called it the ‘Vomit Comet’, and even explained it was due to the Nimrod’s heritage
They don’t. That’s what the Americans call their modified Boeing 707 that they use for astronaut training.
Although I haven’t been on a Nimrod flight without being sick, so the name would be just as apt over here…
The crew did….
