Sounds like the dealer who fleeced a Dambuster enthusiast for many thousands and was taken to court. The Scampton museum was an endless source of original artefacts for him, most, helpfully, with stores labels. I’m sure it has been discussed on here recently. You were entirely right, Elliott!
It is part of the handle starter mechanism, with the chain and sprocket taking the power from handle to merlin. The erk winding the handle was supposed to be tied to an undercarriage leg to prevent him being pulled into the prop when it fired up.
I’ve been adding to my Huey Cobra panel, with a pair of torque pedals fitted. The linkage is a bit crude as a first try but will be improved by Cockpit Fest.
Nice projects, F117. Interesting to see the US differences in the Harrier.
The seat is Stuka. I’ve got a bit of one that matches the photo
Excellent that the Airfield’s passing has been marked. Will there be appropriate street names? That keeps memories alive.
Thanks Nick, I’ve always wanted a Vietnam era P-38 yoke. Time to smash the piggy bank.
Very impressive yokes. Your Belfast yoke must need an enormous centre cap, Nick!
According to my shelf, an AC14362 is a Sea Vixen grip, although a photo would help. A great improvement on a Vampire grip and a nice acquisition.
The odd spade grip has been listed and discussed a few times, although I can’t remember a definite answer. The prop section base looks right but the plastic looks a bit Cessna. It looks thermoplastic rather than bakelite. Pretty sure they were not using injection moulded plastic in the biplane age. Would still love to have a proper look at it though!
Gutted to have just missed this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vulcan-bomber-cockpit-panel-Barn-find-man-cave-reduced-for-Quick-sale/162952169840?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
The airscrew de-icer control makes it very rare indeed. Wonder what it was really off?
Yes, looks very much like a camera sight. There’s one shown here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COLD-WAR-RAF-F95-Aerial-Surveillance-Camera/332582784538?hash=item4d6f7a8e1a:g:cG0AAOSwOy1apT5u
Being post war, there should be newspaper accounts of the accident. That should give you a better location than Bromsgrove.
Thanks for uploading and providing the link. A fascinating resource, you’ve just kept me up well past bedtime!
Thanks Howard, I was getting worried about a trip up from South Wales. Either date good for me so far.
