Some early Spits had a big rectangular lead mass balance at the front of the engine bay. It reappeared later on Seafires, presumably to balance the hook.
I may have to get a passport, Anon! It will be a challenge not to ‘mention the war’ however.
Thanks for the update FLY.BUY. Was in Snowdonia so couldn’t come down. Glad the Brenzett jumble still looks viable, maybe next year. Also missing Popham but looking forward to Old Sarum.
😀
Is it for extracting secrets? Apply thumb, turn screw etc.
Very exotic clouds there Bill! Thanks for minding the stall, it gets a bit lonely sat out on your own, as there was a double ‘no show’ next to me.
Although the plan was to de clutter, it wasn’t a total success. This nice lump of Phantom from the museum clear out and a box of American bits were a welcome offer towards the end of the day. Roll on Cockpitfest!
That is the stuff of legend! Amazing piece. Is there a story?
What a lovely picture! Looks like it’s freshly arrived.
What a lovely pair! Pretty much mint. And a carpet which puts mine to shame… I only have a truncated version. Newest arrival from the States is an odd Bell grip from 1967. It’s stamped ‘physical change No4’ which suggests prototype. Certaintly can’t find a pic of one in service.
[QUOTE=Swifter;2205395] Whilst the aircraft we’re collecting components from had very serious war/conflict oriented missions;
Yes, it always seems an odd juxtaposition having company logos on the centre caps of killing machines, ‘your mission today is sponsored by Boeing’ etc.
Your B26 yoke is a beaut Nick, rather like a beefier B17 yoke. The second pilot got a much spindlier one, much like an Anson wheel. Interesting on the Anson price mark up, relisted, reduced and still not sold.
I’d be curious to know the B26 price although I suspect ‘new car’ rather than ‘hobby’ money!
Good link, Fly.Buy although very much window shopping without international postage.
Lovely models and pics, thanks for posting! The Hare is tiny!
The numbering and stainless steel construction look American. the aviationarchaeology.com database has ’81’ as P40. Could be an RAF Tomahawk, there were plenty over here.
That’s a nice Spit grip but pricey. There again they’re all pricey… Also stumped by the gear stick. On the Supermarine front this is very nice and more affordable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291382799833?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
There’s an exciting Nimrod column just been listed too:rolleyes:
Quite right! Corsair grips should also have a VS Vought Sikorsky part number, not NAF. The column looks more heli than Hellcat. Those NAF grips even appear in some Nimrods, to aim a searchlight. (the one at Norwich airport museum does anyway)
That’s lovely! Definitely needs a better mount, no point having a wheel you can’t hold on to. Could you fabricate something simple out of drain pipe for now, seems a fairly easy shape. googling for pics found these people who might help: http://www.b-17airdepot.com/new-items–specials.html
