Hello Swifter, I’ve looked at mine but am no wiser. Good sense says the four lock wired nuts under the centre cap should hold the yoke on. I’d be tempted to go for the hacksaw and truncate the column rather than risk damaging the yoke. Mine has been lightly butchered so there might be a little more detail for you in the pics. removing the nut from the back will still mean slackening the cogs as they look too big to pull through the front. Good luck!
Thanks Elliott, that is one hell of a list!
That’s a lovely cockpit, it looks compact and complete on the outside. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. Have you seen the Mirage instrument panel here? http://www.aviation-dream.com/Alb_pieces/110928%20-%20Planche_de_bord_Mirage_III.html
Cheers Rob, there’s a lot of scrap but must be some useful or interesting stuff amongst it. The fields get ploughed occasionally which will make searching much easier. I doubt there was any Naval stuff disposed of unfortunately.
Spot on Martyn, a bit like a German Whirlwind! The grip has something of the Samm Mirage/Jag style.
At least you have a decent copy of the photo Darrell, a much cheaper option. I was near the crash site of an Avro Tudor near LLandow this week, it came down on the far side of a field where surplus RAF aircraft were scrapped at the end of the war. A sad business and I wasn’t tempted to go looking for bits.
The Lanc yoke was out of a crash, recovered from a South Wales hillside when I was in the Air Cadets back in the eighties. The condition must be down to sacrificial corrosion, the mag alloy spokes saving the aluminium body.
On the quiz front, here’s something I certainly haven’t got, but would love. An unusual departure from the KG12/13 design. That said, with bits of Ju388 floating about, anything is possible.
The weather was lovely in Cardiff today so popped over to Llandow, passing St Athan, to scavenge the scrapping sites. Saw the two Hercs giving quite a good show, first a tight formation pass then at least one circuit and bump. I had my camera in my lap but didn’t realise the significance of what I was watching. I wish I’d stopped and caught the moment.
It’s the support from around the exhaust stubs on one side of the engine, so you were right with the cowling number. Stainless is amazing stuff!
Nice pic Fly.Buy, was just googling Tudors, did you win it on ebay? seems the only Tudor cockpit shot anywhere! Might do some scanning tonight to join in.
That Lanc yoke is very impressive Swifter. For an aircraft built and scrapped in such huge numbers it’s amazing there aren’t more about. There again Spitfires were hardly scarce. Was yours from the Aldritch shop? I saw one there just too late for far too little! You are pretty close with your centre cap, attached is an unpleasantly bent example. It’s from the second pilot’s side but I think identical.
Can’t help with Beau yokes but if you find a box full Ewan, I’d love one too.
Lovely. Nice and uncluttered around it for a perfect view. Is that a ‘dug’ engine in front of it?
I would be up for a get together. Linking it to another event would make sense, ideally Cockpit Fest as we’d be there anyway.
After the excellent advice, my gun button came apart sufficiently to try it out in the Beaufort yoke. I still need to get it further stripped to fit the Blenheim. The right hand Beaufort hole just fits a camera button, which fills it up nicely.
Very nice yoke Swifter. I like the polished aluminium sections. Aesthetics not entirely abandoned in wartime, although you would need to wear gloves! Ju288/388 makes that a very rare item Tony. A recent acquisition?
Just received this Hawker Siddeley photo, with a history of Dunlop grips 1935 to 65. I’m tempted to laser cut a Dunlop logo for a similar display, although my spade grip collection is somewhat lacking.
That’s an interesting one Swifter, although a yoke which looks less substantial than the aircraft. You jpeg title was a bit of a give away! Those yoke tops are unusual, Ju88C or other night fighter version? Surprised at the 188 example. Did any have fixed guns? Would love to know the stories behind those. Love the B25 yoke. For novel additions here’s a shamelessly borrowed Life photo of a 75mm equipped version. Can’t be many of them!
Nice! Had to look up Winjeel, never heard of it. It’s like a baby Piston Provost. Is it just alt and ASI missing?
