Avro’s Finest…I have an old Duxford guide book at home from the late 70s with a picture of Duxford from the air taken on the front…I will dig it out and compare…
Jeez, are we nerds or what? :p
Do I have to answer that honestly………….
NERDS WE ARE…
Let me know, I still think its DX.
See ya.
Steve
Ok, I have stared and stared at Bruggen’s picture, and I am really not sure…and I flippin’ work here  😮 :p
Hmmmmm…I will study it further…
I’ve been looking at that as well, and i’ve been trying to find a decent more recent photo showing the route taken by the A505, it does look like a pre M11, pre Dux village expansion pre Volvo type of route.
I’m rambling now. Permission to go bury my head.
Ihave been the victim of some vicious character assassination recently. Then the buggers sat in my front room, drank my Scotch and said it to my face!!
I always try to the attack the arguement rather than the person. But I will not pander to people who should know better being idiots and under no circumstances will I ever be politically correct. A spade shall always be called a spade. I have no problem with agreeing to disagree.
Well put…..
Hi
I think it’s time for a little discussion about character and rights on this forum..
The purpose of free speech in democracies is that people have the right to it!
I do not like or agree with a lot of comments on various forums , moreover I find some posts to be of little interest. I find some posters relavent and knowlagable and some closed minded and ignorant – a sort of microcosim of the world in fact.
For me the point is that we should be tolerant of peoples rights to say what they feel even if you violently disagree with it. The boundary for me is when they go over the top and have to be dealt with by moderators and that is what moderators are there for – we are not there to banter about peoples reputations or cause personal insult or damage.
Some people who post are not as robust physically or mentally as others and are not as in control as we would all like but does that mean that they are banned because they do not conform to our model of “normal”. Like I said let moderators moderate and when necessary interdict.
A little care for each other goes a long way. Try this – if you really don’t like a post on a forum , talk to the poster and talk over the issues, “adopt’ them and see if you can’t come to a shared view or understanding of their position. If you can’t reach an understanding then just move on and don’t react when you get agrivated. At least you tried and you gained a little perspective of where they are coming from………………………
Anyway thats my opinion and now we can all have a good slag off of it!!!
Regards
John P
Hi John.
I agree totaly with what you say regarding free speech, a lot of good people died so we could have it.
I am the first to admit I am abrasive, Its who I am, its my character. But, I will not back down from a debate, argument call it what you will just because someone doesn’t like what I write. A lot of the things I write or say are my personal observations, and sometimes they may be regarding a subject that is for want of another word “touchy”. I also say a lot of things which, I think if people where a little stronger, would say themselves.
Although I use the “Avro’s finest” name, a lot of people know me, or know of me, so its not as if I’m saying anything and hiding behind an alias.
If I dont like something I will say, no matter who it upsets, I will also say if I like something or praise something or somebody.
The big problem now days is a lot of people want to be told what they want to hear, in reallity, they need to be told the truth.
Thats my input, take it or leave it.
Steve.
Anyway I think it’s time for some fun lets face it it’s nearly summer innit and Damien it took me this long to find out the dictionary I was using was a French one 🙂
The only French you know, is a letter. And then you went and stuck it over your nose…………………
Hello peeps 😀
The return of the Festering old fossil, its a good job you keep your balls in a bag. We wondered were you had wandered of too, we didn’t give s*&t, we just wondered.

See ya soon ya old git…..

It was to late for me to do anything but…
See ya soon….
A Guinness would be marvellous 😉
Your’e on.
Steve
I don’t suck.
bugga
Ashley: This is a great idea. Can it only be shown at Duxford or would it be possible to take it to another airfield clubhouse for showing? What format is it in?
Avro’s Finest: I’m afraid one of the oldest photos I have of Duxford, that would be of any interest to you, is of Mrs Finest in 1993 sheltering under the wing of an aeroplane. Sadly, the pic is in storage at the moment.
Hi Janie,
most of my stuffs in storage as well…………..
No, he doesn’t think the forum sucks. He thinks the people on it suck.
Lets see, he moved, and I think he stopped posting around that time. When did he move?
I nearly popped in to say hi to you the other day, but then discovered that Bedford is possible to drive to without going via Duxford. Possivble, but not, of course, preferable.
Come back Digby.
DIGBY thinks everything sucks, or is it wishes.
Anyway, found the old git, he’s only gone and cocked up his computa again,
he’s a bloody disaster area.
To get back on track, this is the only pic i can find taken in 1918 🙂 out of a
Duxford program 🙂
Phil.
Cheers – I was born to late………….
Avro’s Finest.
my apologies to you also for taking a while to respond. I am aware of your involvement with aviation which is why of course I didnt make any comments along the lines of ‘what have you done’ etc etc. Do you really believe though that it is the managers and ‘pen-pushers’ who are taking praise for other peoples work at Duxford? The restorers should be praised for the amazing work they have done and so too should the management for the the wonderful facilities, shows and museums they oversee. If anything, the management and ‘pen-pushers’ probably don’t get enough praise compared to the restorers.
I personally like the AAM museum but I can appreciate why others don’t.
Duxford can never though fulfil its role though without modern unauthentic additions to the site. In Duxford’s service history it never had aircraft the size of the Vulcan, Concorde, B52 etc and therefore no hangers of that size. Any hanger built to cover these large aircraft is going to be unauthentic. Lets face it, Duxford never can be remotely authentic in whole to its RAF days, that is unless you remove all mdoern addition hangers, remove coke machines, remove modern eateries, remove modern rubbish bins, remove airside barriers, remove more recent aircraft (or any aircraft that never used Duxford) from the site etc etc.Im glad you’ve expressed your opinion Avro’s finest but it is much more respected when you put it in the way shown in your last few posts rather than your first ones which come across in an entirely different manner.
Anyhow, Best Regards, Steve
ps- sorry ive no photos to contribute to your thread, before my time im afraid.
Hi
I also apologise, some things do get me going.
Take care, you never know, I may buy you a beer one day.
Best regards.
Steve
To get back on thread, I asked if anybody could remember Duxford pre “Super hangar – Land Warfare – AAM” and had any of you got any photos.
Now I’m the first to admit, I think IWM Duxford has gone down hill – my personal opinion only. It has lost all its charecter and charm. Yes it has got a great collection of aeroplanes, but in the AAM they are cramed in like sardines
Why has the Belfast hangar not been replaced on the old “Base” the amount of cash thats gone through DX in the past few years could have built quite a few, and a very expensive architect wouldn’t be required.
I just wish people in positions of responsibility would look at what they’ve got instead of going with trendy ideas and architects fancies.
I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks this way, it’s just that I’m probably the only one who will write it down for all to see.
And finnaly, when I was working at Duxford I did voice my opinions to several people who work for the museum, so, yes I have made constructive comments.
There you have it, MY OPINION, and my opinion only. We all have them, but not many of us will voice them………………………………..
By the way, when something goes through connservation, thats only the begining, preservation is an ongoing proccess – anti-deterioration maintenance and if its done correctly its a very time consuming procedure.
I’ve finished now, its over to you………
Its your Museum……………
Avro’s Finest, in between your bitter, rude and petty remarks….
Why not stop complaining and offer some constructive critisism?
Why not take a second to thank the people who do a lot of hard work to restore these aircraft?
I have been restoring, maintaining and operating historic aeroplanes for almost 20 years and I have seen the conditions these very skilled engineers have to work in, and I get more and more pissed off when I see pen pushers and administrators basking in other peoples glory. if more people told managers what they needed to hear and not what managers want to hear we wouldnt have as many problems.
