there was only one instance where the j-10 and mig-29 went head to head.
that was Myanmar. They chose the MiG-29
There was also a time when Chinese mbts went up against Russian ones. Russian ones won
also Myanmar is having yak-130 vs their chinese counterpart. I think the Yak may win.
Pakistan has also shown, when ever they can, they will choose Russian over Chinese.
…as was foretold, i think it took the negotiations over rafale before India think tanks realized fiscal realities,
…and i think russia didnt do them self any favor discontinuing single engine fighters.about pakistan F-16, can someone specify what exactly are the issues ?
like I’ve said before, this Sukhoi should’ve been adopted instead of the mig-29
Rumor wise PLAAF and PLAN DOES NOT want J-31. It is now said to be purely an export product designated FC-31. Even the JF-17/FC-1 is made by Chengdu (CAC) and not Shenyang (SAC). Confidence in SAC among PLAAF/PLAN is rumored to be pretty low, but SAC is said to have a lot of high-powered people including former military top brass supporting them. The fact that they got themselves in to the J-20 program as a subcontractor after handsomely losing out the J-XX competition is scary. Don’t forget even with the Russians, the relationship with CAC and SAC are complete opposites. CAC has had long-term and apparently good relations with Russian industry including access to AL-31FN series 3 engines (~138kN). Compare that to SAC who has an embargo imposed by the Russians for engines. Some J-20 design & tech might have been absorbed by SAC when producing J-31. You can see multiple similarities.
can’t blame the Russians. SAC pirated their design.
What reputation, combat record? Has it been caught sleeping around?
Lots of countries want it. Want and affordability aren’t the same thing. I want a Ferrari and a Porsche. China’s fortunate enough to buy one, but maybe not both.
what countries want it besides Pakistan?
Well, I think we are only arguing about semantics.. In 2007, LM made it clear that they would be willing to sell the F-35 to India.. This came directly from Rob Weiss, LM Vice President for Business Development.. He never mentioned that the 35 would take part in the MMRCA competition, though..
That is, of course, possible, but why would you even apply for congressional approval if no deal is taking place due to lack of interest?
In short, there was an offer from LM. But the India’s reaction was not sufficient to start the whole clearance procedure..
india just reconfirmed, they don’t want it..
maybe because the chinese know all about it 😉
And here’s proof. In Swiss evals the Typhoon was praised for its supercruise, attained M1.4 with whatever load (M1.5 according to Austrians). Rafale was not. Enough said.
wow the Rafale sounds really good in that eval, old Gripen bad. but the Typhoons lack of range is not surprising. The new Gripen surpasses it even!
looks like the TEjas and F-16 made a baby
IMHO, I would say:
F-35
F-22
Gripen (directional datalinks, but only with a small number) Not sure of the new Gripen yet.
Rafale
F-18 SH Block2
interesting the lack of eastern jets on this list
The bottom line is T-X is a training system and will have essentially no capability to perform air policing, CAS or other kinetic roles dreamed-up by forum posters.
that said, if some one really wanted to do that, the Leonardo and T-50 already offers that.
its just some people here are curious if the pure American offerings can also do that. and it seems thus far, maybe not.

this demand is for a tejas replacement (for whateve reason the IAF tops doesnt want it, but the gov’t does)
OPIT – yes, the Mirage 2000 was the answer to the failure of Mirage F1E to win the NATO four country sale. I think it was seen as old-fashioned compared to the F-16.
The problem with it is that it’s too late. By the time the M88 was available, the Mirage F1 was out of production, & the first Rafale delivery was several years after that. The F1 would have had to be revived, or offered as a retrofit – & as a retrofit, the cost would probably have greatly outweighed any logistical savings.
A modified F1 to take full advantage of the smaller size of the M88, e.g. by reducing the size & thus weight of the airframe, would have been an expensive new development. It’d have been pretty much a new aircraft.
indeed, mirage f.1 was already old news.. and already reaching obsolecense as a fighter when it first came out (a bit too late).
that is why it was used for ground attack.
some news says Japan is getting wet for the kc-46. why would they want that when they already have tankers based on the 767
This is actually true summary. The choice here comes down to nationalistic. Btw, I think you should have made a poll though
I would but this forum doesn’t allow for polls now
“nearly all” you said:
can you give me a domestic fighter developed lately by:
japan
uh come on.
Mitsubishi F-1, F-2, X-2
not to mention P-1, C-2, among many others.
Japan’s military aviation industry is probably on the same level as France and superior to the UK and Germany
As far as future air wars go it’s not clear why anyone would need two types of stealth fighters. Just having one type VLO fighter with sensor superiority would give an air force a force multiplier by using legacy fighters as deep magazine operating from behind. The money for J-31s would be far more than that required to upgrade and link China’s entire fleet of J-10s and J-11s as arsenal fighters.
you have a good point. the days of hi-lo may no longer be about size and range.
j-20 and j-10s seem good. but how will shenyang survive beyond flanker clones.
