Quote: after attention from British engineer “Buster” Paine.

Buster Paine was my father who dissassembled & packed said a/c at Blackbushe, & subsequently reassembled her at Phoenix in ’77 with help from WKW.
My father was due to go again the following year to replace one of the radiators, but unfortunately he suffered a fatal heart attack just before leaving for the US of A.
It is nice that she still gets air under her wings.

I remember seeing the V1000 fuselage in its jig at Wisley just after cancellation when I was placed there for a month or so during my apprenticeship. Never got to Foxwarren though.
The B2 Valiant was there at the same time, & it was at the same time that the Swift (? or was it the Scimitar) overran the end of the runway. Memory fading!

I was not really old enough I suppose to be able to know him, & had by that time other things to worry/occupy myself, so sorry I cannot really help.

That photo posted by Blue Robin of Geoff Marler overtaking -AHNA was taken by me!!! There is another posted on B Clays site.
He was very close – I could hear him over the noise of our engine!!
I had reminiscences of the crash at Southend where one Proctor cut the tail of another – ( 1953 I think).

( Yes I know its an old thread – but only just got round to finding it! Amazing what one finds when least expecting it.)

Ooooooh – I know this thread is umpteen years old by now, but have only just read it>
I was in the RH seat of -AHNA when -AOGE went over onto its prop & I took a photo ( now sadly lost) – the pilot was apparently a Comet captain who was trying to ‘stream’ the tail up in order to get a faster take off – he overcooked it as you can see!
THe Arrow Active Mk II did the same one year also – lost those negs too!!!
Looking at those photos of the Jackaroos – I was in one of those too – with I think FitzMaurice up front – that was a hairy low level flight!
    Those were the days………
