Historic BAC 1-11 Charter – Latest Update

Dear All

Ian Allan Aviation Tours and Classic Jet Tours are in the process of finalising details before releasing their itineraries and booking options. I can confirm that four 30 minute flights are going to be booked with Business Jet access for the event at Dallas Love Field on Sunday 20th October 2013. This will be one of the big highlights of the BAC 1-11s 50th anniversary taking place this year.

Various packages will be available through Ian Allan Aviation Tours or you can put your own itinerary together / travel independently and book the 1-11 flight directly through Classic Air Tours.

Each 30 minute flight taken as a stand alone option will be in the region of $240 to $260 or $450 to $500 for two flights. This is subject to confirmation from Ian Allan Aviation Tours and Classic jet Tours.

You can book anything from one to four flights if you so wish! It will be an “all day” event with a buffet and drinks laid on.

This promises to be a fantastic climax to the 1-11s 50th anniversary and it’s entire history as this will almost certainly be the very last chance to “EVER” fly on a 1-11.

Please spread the word about this very special event.

You can see details about a very similar day out that took place at Dallas Love Field on N999BW in August 2011 on my BAC 1-11 website.

Look for Special Feature 13. It’s worth taking a look!

50th Anniversary 1-11 Flights

I can confirm that this flight will definitely be going ahead and bookings can now be taken for this unique event.
It will take place on Sunday 20th October – subject to confirmation and will be $233 for a 30 minute flight on 1-11 N999BW at Dallas Love Field. This aircraft is an absolutely immaculate executive jet and also the very last one!
This price is subject to four flights taking place with 30 enthusiasts on each one. Therefore we will really make a full day of it and make this 50th Anniversary event one to remember.
At this point in time there will be two travel options.

1. Book a tour with Ian Allan Aviation Tours – details to be announced shortly
2. Book directly with Classic Jet Tours once they have officially launched it very soon.

In the meantime anyone interested should contact me at:-

mrshu_a300@hotmail.com

I can take a provisional booking which will then be passed on to either Classic Jet Tours or Ian Allan.

You can find further details of this and a similar flight carried out in August 2011 on my BAC 1-11 website.

I look forward to hearing from some of you.

Best Regards

Peter Clark

PS Please spread the word!

I can confirm that there are currently 9 aircraft still listed on my website as “current”. The “actual” status of these at this time is obviously not 100% certain.
I can say for sure that QinetiQ are currently flying one aircraft, ZH763, an ex British Airways machine and the last 1-11 flying in the UK. The ETPS 1-11 ZE432 has been grounded for a year with serious corrosion issues and at this moment in time it is very uncertain as to whether or not it will return to service.
The three Northrop Grumman 1-11s all remain active and have all been photographed in the air during 2010.
The Business Jet Access 1-11 N999BW has been up for sale for a long time now and I haven’t received any reports of it flying this year. It was photographed on the ground at its Dallas Love Field base looking pristine during October. Its days must surely be numbered!
The three Mali registered aircraft are “ALL” active with most of their time spent based at Tripoli Mitiga although one is believed to be based in Bamako. My guess is that the former American Airlines aircraft TZ-BSB will be the first to be retired when the time comes. The other two are much later 475 examples which will hopefully soldier on for a few more years.
It is my hope that ZH763 will be around to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the aircraft in August 2013.

The Boscombe Down aviation Collection are in trouble and it looks increasingly likely that the collection will be broken up. There is an EGM next week to try and reach a final solution. The issue of access has been rumbling on for a number of years now.
As for XX105, The MOD told them that they would remove the 1-11 from the Museum site and scrap it. It was towed away two weeks ago and is currently awaiting scrapping along with a VC10 and Hercules.
As for ZE432 more corrosion has been found and a decision as to whether or not it will return to service is apparently on hold and eagerly awaited by myself.

An Aviation Museum at Bournemouth Airport without a 1-11, when one is available!!! Criminal!!!
I would scrap all the other aircraft that have nothing to do with Hurn’s history and replace them with the 1-11 G-AZMF!!!
1-11s have only been flying regularily out of Hurn for the past 45 years!!!

No further comment required!!!

BAC 1-11 photos copyright rules!

As the owner of http://www.bac1-11jet.co.uk I welcome the addition of another BAC 1-11 photo page. It would be much appreciated if the “copyright rules” were respected though!
I recently placed a new gallery on the 1-11 website entitled “The BAe Systems Archive Collection”! This is a very unique collection of 1-11 images taken at Hurn, Wisley and Brooklands. I have been very fortunate enough to have been given permssion to place them on my website. I was told that they must not be used elsewhere other than for personal use only. It is therefore most unfortunate that they have started appearing on this “new” photo page. To make matters worse, there is even a “false” copyright statement on this persons page!!!
Please don’t spoil it! These images are for all to enjoy, but please respect the rules!
If this continues then I will be forced to remove them from my 1-11 website!

New Home for BAC 1-11 G-AZMF

16 Dec 2007

Today is a very sad day for the Bournemouth Aviation Museum as all the exhibits will need new homes! For one aircraft this is a particularly sad day. The aircraft in question is BAC 1-11 G-AZMF. The 1-11 is without doubt the most important aircraft in Bournemouth Airport’s history. First flown from the British Aircraft Corporation site on the 20 th August 1963, it has graced the skies over “Hurn” ever since and will celebrate its 45 th anniversary next year. G-AZMF was the last 1-11 to fly commercially in the UK on the 31 st March 2002 and in recognition of its historic status was loaned to the museum on the 17 th November 2004.

A bid was therefore launched earlier this month to find a new home for the aircraft. In an ideal world it should remain on public display at Hurn, but having looked at all the viable options, it has become apparent that a suitable location regrettably doesn’t exist and that the best that could have been hoped for is that the airframe became a “gate guard” with no public access whatsoever! However, I am very pleased to confirm that an offer has been received from the team at the Manchester Airport Aviation Viewing Park (AVP). They would like to display the aircraft with their growing collection of famous British Airliners which include the former British Airways Concorde G-BOAC and Trident 3 G-AWZK, as well as the last British Airliner Built in the UK, Avro RJX G-IRJX. As you read this, negotiations are ongoing to secure the long term future of this historic airframe. Subject to final approval by the Manchester Airport Board of Directors, it is hoped that a fund raising appeal can be launched at the earliest opportunity. The estimated cost of the move is currently still under discussion as the airframe will need to be dismantled, transported and re-assembled at Manchester. A fundraising website will go live today. You’ll be able to make contributions as soon as final approval is received that the project can go ahead. Please be prepared to “dig deep” and support the move of “OUR 1-11” to ensure that it goes to an excellent home where it will be displayed in all its glory for many more years to come. YR-CJL was sold to the Mali Government earlier this year. It is now registered as TZ-BSB. The MIA web page is therefore slightly out of date!

Check out my News page for futher details.

Thanks for your kind words about my 1-11 website.

You still ask how many 1-11s MIA Airlines have in their fleet though???

As you ask, the answer is two. YR-HRS and YR-MIA

It does say on the website which is the whole point of the site! Check out the current fleet page!

Thanks again for your interest and please do let me know if any images come to light. I’ve seen a few at the UKAR site.

I can confirm that it was definitely MIA Airline’s YR-MIA. It flew in from Tripoli at around 4.00pm and departed when you saw it shortly after 5.00pm.

A fine machine indeed!
