It won’t be 1m2. And that weight won’t be there during combat.
The official figure from the pentagon is M1.76, M1.82 is from a pilot interview in AFM. Both seem to tally dependent on ambient conditions. The EF manages M1.5 with AAMs, no TVC and relatively larger wings, so there’s no reason a clean F-22 can’t manage M1.8
EW systems have changed. You don’t need those huge pods anymore.
EA-18G pods have their own power source.
Last statement is simply ridiculous. Detecting a radar only tells you roughly where one aircraft is. Then you have AEW assets. The supercruise and fuel cooling actually reduce IR signature relative to legacy fighters.
Well it never needs to in fairness but I’ve never seen any source for that.
Each engine of EF has 6400kg non afterburning thrust supporting airframe of 11.5tons. F-22 has practically twice the weight without twice the non afterburning thrust. AAM semi-recessed does not add that much drag. you can see this thing in airshows where F-22 use full afterburner thrust at low altitude. you wont see that much flame from Su-35 at low altitude.
the only figure that make sense is 3000km range with 12,000kg worth of fuel. certainly this is not supersonic range of supercruise.
http://www.af.mil/AboutUs/FactSheets/Display/tabid/224/Article/104506/f-22-raptor.aspx
Range: more than 1,850 miles ferry range with two external wing fuel tanks (1,600 nautical miles)
Whilst drop tanks do add considerable RCS, they don’t suddenly make it a B-52
even 1sqm rcs will be detected at hundreds of kms. a competent rival can plan accordingly. 4ET has weight of 7tons. 2ET will be 3.5tons.
and if it can do M1.82 on military thrust without ETs, it can likely still go supersonic even with them.
this M1.82 is non sense. what is the non-afterburning thrust of F-119?. what is the weight and drag of the plane at time when it can supercruise.
The F-22 has internal EW too, made by the same people who do the ASQ-239.
internal EW suite are not effective and not get updated fast enough. Su-34 with giant hump pack still need big pods on on wingtip and big tail almost the size of F-22 nose.
Lot’s of NATO planes don’t have huge EW pods, in fact the EA-18G is probably more an exception than a rule.
problem with EA-18G is the pods are integrated into power deficient aircraft. this plane weighs empty 16tons. three pods and external fuel tanks will make it 20 ton aircraft. that’s excluding internal fuel.
What the F-22 does have is a gigantic AESA radar that can do X-Band RF attack from huge distances to disrupt targeting radars. And frankly nobody even knows exactly what it has because only one non-airforce person has ever been allowed to sit in one. I even noticed recently that’s there’s a patent for aircraft AESA radar with X-Band receipt and wideband output and also other patents for wideband output plus receipt. So the assertion that radar RF attack can only be X-Band in itself is a false premise.
gigantic radar will radiate and since it does not have fuel capacity relative to its weight it simply cant loiter for ambush attacks. it is just quick entry and exit aircraft which need afterburner use that make huge noise and signature. it is not designed to fight in 21st century warfare. every thing is in 1980s.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. The current plan of ramping up production is not threatened by any politician. If anything they’ve rejected the minor cuts proposed by the US DoD.
The threat to F-35 is not politician but demographic and economic. politicians will first to throw it under the bus when time comes. running a labor intensive operation where population is fastest growing simply not sustainable. the assembly line in Italy/Japan are too small and not very conveniently located to parts.

Texas immigrant population now rivals New York’s in size
your knowledge about F-35 is clearly lacking despite spending most your time on F-35.
Or you can have up to four 600 US gal drop tanks, that you drop before the fighting begins. Plus you can maintain high supersonic without reheat.
I highly doubt it can go supersonic with 4ET. it will only add incremental range while exposing it to be tracked from hundreds of kms. F-22 does not have big EW pods either. it is fighter whose time has passed.
for altitude you need to have fuel in gas tank for persistence. I mean real altitude that make a difference like 60k+ feet.
how can F-22 bring high speed persistence that carry not much more fuel than F-35 and is about 50% heavier and a lot draggier. F-22 bring nothing to the table over F-35.
most likely the Libyan version is downgraded monkey model and highly doubt Libyan got any training for there use.
Is there any evidence that the Turkish AF has significantly curtailed its flight operations? NATO is still conducting flight operations over Syria, and the UK RAF is still flying normal operations from Cyprus. Given that NATO SEAD capability is currently provided only by the US, the assets needed to suppress S-400 operations would probably not be deployed in theatre unless the S-400 was acting as a direct threat to NATO aircraft flying within its coverage.
yes. Turkish airforce cant enter Syria where Russia airdefence operates and the rest of coalition operates in mutual coordination. that’s why the Kurds are becoming powerfull in Syria. US coalition is only bombing ISIS. while Russia can bomb just anybody.
Both Turkey and US coalition is totally discredited in Arab world.
http://aa.com.tr/en/turkey/erdogan-urges-syria-safe-zone-amid-kilis-rocket-attacks/573845
There’s not a single door left that we have not knocked on [regarding] developing a safe zone on our southern borders to protect the innocent people in Syria,” Erdogan said in Istanbul during the third Islamic conference of ministers responsible for water.“I shared this with the U.S. president [Barack Obama], I shared this with Russia when relations were good and I shared this with the Western countries,” Erdogan said, adding that none of them took action to develop a safe zone.
NATO is already placing significant effort into ways of countering threats such as VHF radars and the S-400. Solutions have already been identified, but I am not sure if any of this is in the public domain.
did that solution provided to Turkey whose airforce is practically grounded against S400. Turkey is now most dithering member about ordering F-35 fast.
China is going backward not forward in high tech area. look at outdated C919. outdated helicopters, outdated transport, cant built advance trainer without external support no long range sustain strike ability. Fighters cant carry big ET or big pods. if these trend of building uncompetitive product continues China will have to import a lot of Russian systems. as in couple of years China will not have the labor advantage of building so many products at same time.

2nd largest country in Europe with 43 million population is small and would require a modest investments? How modest?
only 15.4m votes were casted in euphoria of 2014. Ukraine has world fastest population decline.
Really? I doubt if the origin of the missile was in their minds at all. I’m damned sure that what they were thinking of was showing off that they’d shot down the AH-1, & didn’t care about anything else.
You’re projecting your thinking on to them, & ignoring their viewpoint.
they do care about that. Russia long range fighter radars they constant looking inside turkey and satellites can be decisive for Kurds.
A lot of SA-18 got lost from Libya inventory when the rebels took over and some of the weapons were even available for sale on internet.
the chance of sunni arabs giving weopons to PKK is very low.
I don’t think its logical to automatically blame Russians here. Its the third Turkish helicopter shot down by PKK in the last 12 years an S-70, AH-1 and latest AH-1W; two of them by Igla, other by Strela system. All these Systems are Russian built, so latest “alleged” arms support AFTER Su-24 shooting does not make sense. Like TR1 said, had Russians provided MANPADS it would have more pronounced effects and I don’t think providing MANPADs would serve Russian interests in anyway.
I believe there are two more important aspects of this event:
1-Following the S-70 shooting down by MANPAD in early 2000s, ALL Turkish helicopters down to archaic UH-1s were retrofitted to carry flare launchers. Add to that, ALL AH-1, S-70s and some Cougars were even retrofitted with a MAWS system. Also, 2008 Shooting down of an AH-1 was broadly in similar region, so why MAWS was not active, or why it didn’t pick up the incoming missile? At the very least, why no automatic flare drops every few seconds? Some unofficial statements claim pre-flight checks were skipped while in a hurry (helicopter was dispatched to support an operation following a PKK attack on Çığlı military base from Iraqi territory, causing 6 deaths). I think our pilots or operational planners are more to blame than Russians or anyone else.
2-This is the first time Turkish Military gave a misleading information in their official statement. They claimed cause of crash was a “Technical Problem”. While it may be understandable that no one (on Turkish side) withnessed the crash, it is not acceptable. They should have just said “cause unknown”.
well come back. so AH-1W was without self protection suite. its called shoddy procurement. Is all the 240 F-16s have 21st century EW suites or less than 40 has 15 year old EW tech. it is certainly not first time misleading statement from Turkey.
Nice story. Unfortunately, actual reality is that to-date, the invasion of Ukraine has cost Russia $600 Billion and continues to cost them $140 Billion per year. This will get far worse for Russia as time goes on and Europe weans itself off Russian gas and oil.
why it will cost $600b?. they got it for free through military force. that use of military force gave confidence for Syria operation.
EU cant wean itself from itself let alone from Russian gas.
Also as unfortunate, out of that 2 million people gained by Russia, a vast majority are non-productive and the Crimean region prior to 2014 was running at a $1 billion economic deficit, with a GDP of a mere $4 billion.
they gained far more than 2m people. Crimea was non productive because they are were under ukranian system. now productivity will become sky high.
rest of world will move on swiftly.

Italian delegation makes an illegal trip to Russian-occupied Crimea
This was before their invaluable tourism industry completely collapsed. Don’t bother trying to spin that the acquisition of Crimea was economically beneficial to Russia. It has been an economic disaster.
tourism is temproray slow as infrastructure cant compete with Sochi
The strategic value of the peninsula is even questionable with modern weapons used today. With the Black Sea completely surrounded and entrances controlled by NATO and its allies, the ships of the Black Sea fleet are quite literally fish in a barrel.
Black sea surrounded? It is the Russia weopons that enable Assad to dump 3m Syrians on Turkey and Turkey is barking at EU for not helping it. just look erdogan whinning. he has gone quiet regarding Russia. the only reason Russia hasn’t dump 10m on turkey is bargaining with Persian gulf arabs. And bargaining with Israel will make even west more ineffective.
The Sevastopol lease was only costing $4 billion a year.
it was going money outside. with $4b Russia can add 10 diesel electric subs each year. Russia needs the whole peninsula to better organize military systems.
