The F-35 is a substantially larger aircraft with inherently greater range and endurance capabilities.
incremental greater range wont matter. since Canada is simply too big for 36 or 60 aircraft.
The F-35 has stealth, which would allow it to monitor aircraft near Canadian airspace without revealing itself if it so chose.
some more investments in ground based radar and AWACS will better monitor airspace.
The F-35 has a larger and longer-ranged radar.
As i said its only incrementally better range. not like mulitple of better range.
The F-35 has EOTS, which allows BVR “visual” ID of aircraft and ships. (particularly if Canada goes for the advanced EOTS)
optical pods are always advancing faster than ordering something with aircraft.
The F-35 will have satellite comms integrated internally. (it won’t need the pod Canadian F-18s currently carry.)
whats wrong with pod. its not that they are using it for mach 2 speeds.
The F-35 will also be fully compatible with Canada’s chief military ally and training partner.
Canada is already participating in the F-35 program and has received significant work-share.
etc etc, and all of this completely ignores overseas/NATO operations.
they won competitive rights to workshare. if some one else could do that in exchange for greater orders. it would have been already reallocated.
Canada has very little budget and is unlikely to contribute much to NATO operations in future. they already losing big for there naval operations. adding expensive F-35 will make them irrelevant if not just for demographic change in less than 10 years.
