Russia has still $370b reserves for 145m population. China has $3.6T for 1.4b population. Russia produce much larger trade surpluses, less outflows and lower debt relative to population. so money in banking is sufficient. ultimately the this deal or any other wont depend on finances but what it is end impact of Su-35.
like helping countries in Middleast/CIS or Venzuela helps in greater oil production. Chinese are simply not that good in investments and military exports at right places.

Britain as a T1 partner has had more access, influence, and insight into the JSF program than India has had with the PAK FA.

Britain has contributed $2b towards JSF years ahead of getting first operational JSF. It is India slow release of money and lack of any R&D contribution that’s the problem.

Hi Austin, answers to us qtn:
Iraq is too busy fighting its own wars. Originally Shiite Iraqi “volunteers” was supporting Syria in the thousands ( my estimate 4-6 000). Later with the spectacular ISIS blitzkrieg, they packed their bags and went home as their own homes were under threat.

Ever since Iraq has been in disarray, barely able to keep itself from drowning.

how exactly is Iraq in disarray. It has world fastest growing Oil production even with low prices.. Irak has introduced Russia weopons and system of training. that will cut down long term costs of military.

IMHO they had to wait until the Iran nuclear deal was concluded, just note how involvement started up slowly and ramped up after it survived US Congress votes.
Ukraine crisis also messed up things great time, sparkling irrationalistic (N.B. it is not the same than irrational) game of action and reaction between Russia and NATO: they closed Bulgarian airspace and so they had to find a longer and more risky route.

In every case Russia can capitalize now the fact it can have friends (few) and antagonists (many) but no one is in such bad terms or so powerful to refuse to deal with or ignore what it say .
So they can just put themselves as a middleman and strike separate deals with all the involved parties, even if they are sworn enemies between one’s another.

Actually the Bulgaria route is much more distance as you have to go wide across Turkey and it is un safe if planes have trouble. It is much more friendly to fly over Irak/Iran airbases.

I will not be surprised if Putin announce that this whole operation is for safety and security of Israel than no western countries will be able to oppose it.
and it will further alienate the Arab street as they think Putin is bombing them for Israel and no one is opposing it.

Except this is war and people are going to die…

Now obviously there is already a war and people are already dying, but people should keep in mind this is serious business. If one of those planes goes down over badguyland it won’t be any laughing matter.

that’s why you use attack choppers and UAVs that if plane goes down and bad guys converge than you have option of second time blast them.
I will even think Smerch and Iskander will provide much more rapid response.

And all that thanks to a massive strategic airlift asset built in… Ukraine 😉

It is not built in Ukraine. They can built it only if Russia supply them with parts and labor to built it.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/russia-ramps-up-military-buildup-in-syria/
Russia ramped up its military buildup in Syria over the weekend, and there are now a total of 28 combat aircraft plus 16 helicopters on the ground, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports.

The Russians masked the transport of the military aircraft by flying them in behind transport aircraft, Martin reports, and the speed of the buildup has surprised the U.S.

Terrorist operate every where and the root cause of ISIS is financing by GCC namely Saudi Funding and tacit support of US.

IF these countries want to stop ISIS they can always stop the source of funding but they dont have any intention to do so.

Its a fight between Shia and Sunni ………Russia getting involved when there is no threat to its security is just fishing in troubled water.

Its better to leave the ISIS alone and let all the other stake holder fight their own battle ………..IF ISIS comes to Russia and bombs the Orthodox Church we can talk.

Russia supply weopons to Irak and Syria. so it is going to be blamed any way.
Saudi King letter to Bush few months before 9/11 of of US support to Israel. and boom 9/11 happened in few months.

Hardly a problem for Russia , Mostly its related to Sunni-Shia dispute and they dont represent any threat to Russia or its allies by that i mean CSTO countries.

If Russia gets involved in this mess , then its case of creating mess when there is none

They already given $150m to Ukraine. they can take advantge of weak and dysfunctional governments with lax border and air controls.

    New Saudi-Ukrainian aircraft programme launched
Defense News quoted a source as having reported an “initial payment of $150 million”, with an initial plan for the production of eight aircraft. –

Arab money is converting countries like Turkey and Europe into terrorist heavens. they are bribiing Israel. the only way to deal with threat is to impose complete air and sea embargo all the way from Arctic to Middleast.

But Russia sent Su-30 multirole fighters not the Su-27. Su-30 is multi-role right? It can carry smart bombs.

Su-30 is too small for this kind of tasks and Su-30 only used for AAM and EW role. Once you put AAM/EW pods into fighter. it does not carry that much strike load.. I not even including the Anbar province in Iraq. It is target rich environment on vast area.

I dont think Russia will install S-400 in Syria. Why sould they make easy to US and NATO to colect ELINT signals from it?
Older S-300 versions will do just fine after all they don´t want to shotdown NATO aircrafts.

there is S400 very near to Turkey on other side. S-400 at Syria will extend air defence zone into Mediternean Sea/Turkey/Israel. so Nato will not park Aircraft carrier there.
I will even suggest they put S-400 into Southern Irak.

    http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/originals/2015/09/us-saudi-iran-isis-gcc-bahrain-yemen.html
With over $100 billion already spent on conventional military expansion in the past five years and another extra $50 billion allocated over the next two years, the Saudis are fully committed to and capable of out-powering the Iranians.
Saudi military planners have already started looking at potential scenarios where Riyadh could use air power to provide cover for anti-Assad forces not linked to terrorist groups. Sooner or later, a Saudi coalition will get involved in Syria, and it will become the largest and most dangerous front in the conflict between the kingdom, its Arab allies and Iran.

My prediction is if Ruaf really do hard hitting strikes over extended period of time. Saudi government will be either overthrown by Islamists for being incompetent in stopping it or they will join full frontal war. . either case is highly beneficial for Russia.

These are the cheapest and most effective products for money. India is not some engineering power that other countries are lining up for complex hardware co development with India.

But I don´t think Russia is sending Flanker do to CAS. I think they are going to use it to atack much more valuable targets such as non ISIS weapons depot wearing down the oposition to the syrian government or bomb ISIS supply lines along the border with Turkey with impunity. Turkey won´t dare to atack russian aircrafts fighting ISIS near its border as they do against syrian air force warplanes.

Flanker is not suitable for this kind of role. Flanker only role is loitering to produce radar image and EW support. It need FAB-3000 and FAB-5000 from Tu-22M. it is too reshape the battlefield in such a way that some others lured into it. I think they need to install S-400 in Syria. that will cover aerspace well into Mediteranean/Irak/Turkey/Israel.
it will be the most profitable adventure in Russia history.

C-SAR : Combat Search And Rescue.

Russia has a lot of CAS anyway.

C-SAR from air is done when not enough ground troops. It was defeat Georgian so fast on ground that C-SAR and CAS is moot point and its introduction will create confusion.

I do love how you call the various assessments a “myth” and then go on to say you have no idea what you are talking about.

    :stupid:

The fundamentals of reduced RCS shaping are widely known and the PAK FA clearly didn’t place the same emphasis on reducing its RCS that the other 5th generation fighters have.

what is R&D for? it is to discover and implement the unknown.
