What Russia did to improve its C-SAR capabilities since 2008?
IF Russia is willing to enter to conflict on the side of Bashar Al Assad with air support they will need it.
The 2008 conflict with Georgia proved (at least to me) they had none.
you dont do Close airsupoort when you want to defeat in less than 3 days. CAS is for slow motion war.
It would be a staggering development certainly, there are certainly question marks in my mind. Partnered up with their il-78 tankers it would mean a huge extension of the PAFs reach. I vaguely remember that some PAF pilots did test the S-27 and rather liked it so I could see certain quarters within the PAF being supportive. A twin engine heavy would be costly to operate in comparison to their current fleet and I also wonder as others have speculated if this isn’t a way of pushing the Chinese for a better deal for a similar type.
40 Su-35 can replace 200 older generation fighters interms of weopon tonnage, weopon flexibility and range with powerful EW pods over top of it. with long life airframe and engines. it is cheaper to operate them.
As for the Russian’s I wonder if this is partially a shot across India’s bow over the recent large number of purchases for US types, also whilst India talks about red lines considering how much Russian equipment they operate I do see that as a rather hollow threat.
large number of purchases?. when you add up all (C-17/C-130/P-8). it comes to less than $10b over 15 years. hardly big sum in todays money printing world and not even relevant to futurisitic decision where some other considerations are getting more important.
Israel has limited budget, exports and technical people it simply can’t compete with US based firms in continuous advancements with large production batches and quick delivery. On top of that Israel has become high cost country.
So the question is, what does the U.S. gain with a strong Iran.
US does not gain anything from strong Iran. strong Iran means more Oil and Gas into the market. that will kill Oil industry of Norway/Canada/US/Brazil and prices will go down for extended period of time that it lead to internal collapse of Saudi unable to fight wars with expensive western weopons.
Right now it’s driven oil prices through the floor, which is bad for Russia and the counterparts alike. I just hope Russia doesn’t get frustrated and decides to accelerate their Ukraine involvement as a counter move. The Big picture isn’t looking like roses.
Ukraine will be sidelined untill Nordstream-2 is completed and after that Russia will punch it again when Ukraine is much weaker in population and have no pipeline.
Has physics changed in 50 years? Do missiles go faster today than back then? You can put gps on a scud, its still a scud. If you make it dance around it will.just use up fuel. Its physics.
the way R&D and production is done in West. It will take couple of trillion dollars to create next generation of billistic missiles in enough quantity to saturate a target. this things are simply not present. this is the only and accurate way of strike. Not stealth aircraft. that need whole preparation at airbase that will alert about every body.

The initial version has inertial guidance, but in 2011 an Iskander was tested with a digital scene-matching guidance system. Most observers agree that the Iskander is physically capable of exceeding INF range limits. A detailed report from Finland’s National Defense University estimates that the weapon’s range is likely to be 700 km or more, with the standard warhead, based on contemporary solid-propulsion performance standards
Intervention is already a success as rest of world is moving towards russian view point.
with Nordstream 2 and all those Oil/Gas coming out from Iran/Iraq. It will give Russia much free hand to destroy the rest without damaging world economic.

Australia would consult with Iran over possible plans to expand RAAF air strikes to Syria, underscoring Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop’s push for more co-ordination with the Shiite regional power in the fight against Islamic State
those are 1960s era TBMs not built for 21st century.
What he said.
Basically the USN has new planes that they can depend on (Super Hornets & Growlers) and has much more expensive things to pay for (Carriers, LCS, Subs, etc).
Everybody else needs to replace very old planes and does not have many other items to pay for that are more expensive.
Every one else has never fought a modern combat againt near peer competitor so have no idea what is suitable and is severly cutting down more important things.
The following are negative advantages of Stealth plane.
1. Extermely long and costly R&D phase. it mean every thing else thats necessary is pushed back for decades. this include basic things like trainer aircraft.
2. Expensive production line with lots of labor required to produce given number of planes.
3. Expensive airbase and training and much heavier planes for given payload and range.
4. The planes have no flexibility. they cant carry gigantic pods.
Infact TBM has so advanced that they can destroyed airbases with near 100% accuracy. the only plane that can survive that are parked atleast 2000km away from battlfield. that is the Chinese approach of cheap TBM next to Taiwan.
I totaly agree Broc@.
But People here fail to see the bigger Picture.
so you even understand bigger picture.
Germany was the biggest force in west to lift sanctions on Iran after Crimea take over. now its Germany again. Military success is always profitable and respected.

Germany’s Merkel sees need to cooperate with Russia on Syria
Putin is only interested in keeping Assad’s head above the water, nothing more nothing less.
He is interested in imposing Assad based solution on Arab world and Turkey.
Putin is a happy man if NATO and US can do the dirty work against ISIS.
The move into Syria, is a smoke screen for other more flameble region.. Ukraine problem is still present and isn’t going away.
And its starting to give Putin a headache..
Nato is not doing the same thing. Ukraine will die down natural death.
It might had given him initial support at home, but as time drags on, and more Russian soldiers dies and more funding keep draning Russian defence sector and other sectors like Food and relief.
Then it backfires, and the Kreml advicers are out of options to manuvere..
There is not a chance of any thing as such happening. Initially they may use Ukranian approach of luring rebels closer and hit them once they assemble in one area but later it will expand alot. There are naval exercises with live firing coming up and airdefence network.
Kazakh air force is bound to get more, I agree. Actually, now that the ruble is so low, its perfect time for foreign buyers to buy russian hardware. if su35 doesnt sell within the next two years it may never sell. 😀 I exaggerate, of course.
I thought the article said the 70-75 plans for su30sm include the navy buys?
what is the deal with those su27 produced in 1996?? as far as i know last su27 were made in 1992. Unless these are some unfinished airframes similar to the previous sm3 purchase.
If su30sm replaces some of the su24 in their regiments there may be a smaller need for su34. If su30sm was good enough for the navy regiment to switch from su24 – it may also be good enough for the air force in some smaller quantities. After all, if there was indeed a final tally of 200+ su34 – there’d be really way too little room for pak-fa buys. (as su30sm would then replace exclusively figther regiments meaning pak-fa would have little left to replace)
you have to look at production constrained of Su-35 not just the price. I doubt more than 100 can be built before 2020. pak-fa is not replacing anything its additional capability.
It is best time to export planes.

Iraq receives 4 Russian combat aircraft
Russia has an R&D complex and significant experience with turbofans, this is true, but on the other hand, Russia is out of money; even with the Ukraine war Russia is facing budget cuts both to procurement and R&D. China, on the other hand, does not necessarily have a mature R&D complex, but China is flush, or at least was flush, with money, and a 10.4 trillion dollar economy can be dumped into engine R&D with ~2.2% of GDP being dedicated to military budgets.
I think you are not paying attention to the list of failed aerospace projects that China is currently pursuing in my previous post. China is basically out of money and technology thats why all its advance projects are 99% import dependend. It has 1.3b population that want to flee as fast they can with all there money. only the assembly line workers left behind.
only Russia alone can implement TVC engines and advance FBW systems across fighter line up even on Naval strike fighters. Russia alone sold close to 4000 AL-31 class engines to China/India. There are several big export opportunities coming up as they have much more credibility in export markets.
how much thrust MIG-31BM engine produce assuming same upgrade is applied to it that is applied to D-30 of IL-76/Y-20.

According to the statement, both aircraft models will be given upgraded avionics and radars, as well as an improved engine. The SU-30SM and the SU-30MKI will also be equipped with additional weapons
Favorable climate, lots of resources and low population density means Russia can basically spend unlimited on defense.

Some confirmation about the additional Algerian order for 14 more Su-30MKA that was signed in April 2015.
Irkut is getting loaded with orders. Interesting, if you remember Totoro we were discussing the likeliness of further Su-30SM orders for the VVS, or if Irkut was just go by export orders until Flanker production is phased out at the end of the decade.
Looks like they are going in both directions, between the new Algerian and Kazakh orders (total of 50 if we talk about complete Kazakh needs), the additional VVS order (70-75 birds) + the remaining VMF birds (8+ another expected 30 ).
There is also obviously a potential extra export contract or two to be signed between now and 2020.
There is alot more potential for Flanker orders before 2020. selling 400 to 500 combat aircraft license to Iran.
if Ruaf started striking Anbar province from Syrian airbase. It will save alot of money for Irakis and they can also order alot of planes.
Flanker has great range and loiter time. The most efficient and effective plane ever built.
China has shown itself to be quite adept at rapidly closing technological gaps (not smoothly or perfectly, but still remarkably fast), and playing catch up is always easier than leading the frontier. Despite depending on foreign assistance it seems unlikely that they didn’t build real technical abilities that would be carried over to future independent projects. To draw an analogy to another Chinese project, the WS-10 program was a lot like the J-10 program. China (specifically CAC) received a lot of assistance from the Israelis and Russians, and some good looks at the LAVI and F-16, but everything they learned from the J-10 program enabled them to develop the J-20.
how many years L-15/Y-20/ARJ-21/C919/J-20 in testing and what is the production rate this despite significant help and complete import dependencey. my prediction is Chinese will simply run out of money and will force to cooperate with foreign partners.
You must have mixed me up with JSR or something. I don’t think India “screwed” the Su-30, on the contrary their order at the very least helped secure further Irkut export contracts.
how many non IAF Su-30 has crashed?. it is very reliable plane. Plus it could have been exported to many countries in 1990s like Iran/Saudi/UAE. it was politically constrained.
I just had to reply to this BS.
You said the factories would be pumping out hundreds of jets by 2020. Go ahead and show some proof of ANYTHING like that happening, clown.
Irkut explicitly said they will be delivering 20-25 more jets yearly to the VVS. They have already delivered 21 to the VVS in one year. That increase is nowhere near the nonsense you postulated.
JSR’s brilliant prediction, btw:
“every year production is increasing. show me single year since 2009 that production and delivery has decrease. I expect production in 2020 at over 300 fighters a year. “
At the time this thing was not part of prediction. if they built 50 to 100 Tu-160M2. its almost equal to 500 Flankers in strike power.
