A limited ability to detect and avoid trouble. Cameras and high-tech sensors on a drone cannot fully replace a pilot’s eyes and ears and nose in the cockpit. Most remotely controlled planes are not equipped with radar or anti-collision systems designed to prevent midair disasters.

Standard load for a Typhoon is 4 AIM-120Cs and 2 ASRAAM. How well did R-27Rs do in the Ethiopian-Eritrean war? The Typhoon’s drop tanks are probably more likely to get a kill after release.
that war was based on missile built on Soviet factories. which has nothing to do with R-27 of past couple of years.
how it will know when to drop the tanks. and if Flanker refuse to fight in tail chase engagement EF range without ET will be greatly reduced. Flanker can still turn around for fight. there is no evidence of RCS with 6 AAMs that will make difference against all kind of radars.
using missile with greater than 60 degree turn greatly reduces its speed/energy/range. the best way to enter fight is to use long range radars, high altitude , speed and best nose pointing position of fighter for missile shot. You cannot outrange 40 Km export R-73 let alone Ruaf R-73 launched from Flanker at higher speeds.
EF with ET is not some stealth fighter. and amount of intelligence in Baltic. they can be tracked right where they start there engines on the ground.
That Flanker looks like a relic from the 1980s. I presume it’s a Su-27S or ‘P’ – not even a modernised ‘SM’? In which case that flanker in the picture probably hasn’t got an advantage upon the typhoon’s predecessor, the Tornado F3, certainly regarding radar and BVR missiles.
Russia thinking is the obsolete fighter enough to deal with EF as this area is not that far air defence coverage so no need for radar use.

That is production for Ruaf if they want to order. Export version are much less sophisticated and come way earlier in production. look at MIG-29K first flight and its delivery to RuNavy. see Su-27SM vs Su-30MKK history.
That is interesting, because the Russian Air force pushed back the production of their units until 2016, certified or not.

Export model fighters are not same Ruaf. Ruaf has very advanced PESA radars and airforce is large. so they may not even accept first generation AESA.

I am also getting better at convincing people that an AESA is cheaper to operate than a mechanically-scanned array because it is thrice as reliable. You require fewer spare parts so your aircraft grow more mobile because you no longer need to move large SPTA stocks when relocating from one air base to another. The service life of the TRMs is comparable to that of the airframe. Our goal is to bring the reliability of all radar components up to the same high level.

This argument is OT and tiresome. You’re comparing a 50% heavier twin-engine plane redesigned in the past five years against an airframe using a single engine that has been virtually frozen in design for a decade.

F-16E first flight is around 2002 to 2004. MIG-29K/MIG-35 is 2006-07. hardly frozen for decade.
MIG production will be increasing so it is highly likely it will be available at cheaper cost and much larger quantities. than MIG is also available to Syrian and Iran airforce. so Irak can potentially use there expertize to quickly form operational squardons.
Firstly a block 52+ is not a downgraded block 52. The + designation came about to account for the surprising amount of changes that were introduced to the airframe in that Block. There is a strong argument that the Block 52+ should of got a new block number. So you are wrong about that.
I am fully aware about the operational advantages the F-16 has benefitted from but that doesn’t take away it’s impressive kill count. If the situation was reversed old JSR would be huffing and puffing if we pointed that out.
Clear advantage goes to mig 35? Based on what? The paper capabilities of its airframe, engine and missile combination?….don’t make me laugh!

MIG-35 is 90% unified with MIG-29K. which is in production and is fully certified. Structure is fundamentally sound with up to 5 fuel tanks tested. production rate is increasing. lower wing loading, higher TWR, higher altitude cruising. contribute to decisive advantage energy to both air to air and air to ground strike weopons.

MIG-29UPG can operate at higher altitude and speeds that give more energy to missiles. just look at MIG-29K takeoffs from Viki.
MIG is investing in MIG-29 production line such that within two years MIG-29K/MIG-35/MIG-29SMT can be supplied with production rate increasing in 2016. this is huge advantage to countries like Irak that desperately need large numbers of aircraft sooner. than there is experience factor.
Turkey has 30 years experience with F-16.
I kind of agree with Tu22m. The Yanks would be better off sending those planes and the military support they planned to send to the al-Maliki regime to the Kurds. The Kurdish Peshmerga seem to be the only disciplined military force in Iraq that doesn’t run away from a buch of thugs driving techincals. It was amazing to see the kind of gear the Iraqi army just abandoned as it ran away. They had armored cars, APCs and even Tanks and they just abandoned that equipment and their arsenals and ran away. You could drive a T-72 up to one of those ISIS technicals and crush it without having too much to fear from an RPG-2 or even an RPG-7. If the new citizens militia really manages to beat off the ISIS the abject humilitaion of al-Maliki and of the Iraqi army will be complete.
Iraki army has same problem that Syrian army. In Middleast you cannot have all inclusive military. backstabbing very common.
Kurds don’t have such problem.
Also where is all this TOSH coming from about it being an unreliable single engine type! This isn’t the 1950’s you know! The Block 52+ is powered by one of the most mature and reliable engines available on the market! The F100-PW-229 is a superb engine which is serving many airforces very well without complaint. The whole single vs twin thing is frankly a non issue now when you consider the reliability of modern engines. It actually has an enviable safety record and a 30% reduction of life cycle cost vs the previous variant.

F-16 has shot down 76 enemy jets for one loss (not counting taken by a SAM)
Mig-29 has shot down 1 drone but has been shot down 18 times by other jets including the F-16 – stick that in your pipes and smoke it!I expect this silliness from JSR but come on guys lets be a bit more sensible about this all.
I know its not 1950s and single engines are more reliable but its about [b]life cycle[b] costs. when loaded intensive sorties are to be flown. the single engine fighters have a lot of stress that shortern there life. so even 10 times more Expensive unit cost M2K-H has same life span as MIG-29A.

Incase of Iraq they need fighter that can take stress of daily repeated bomb laden sorties for years. so twin engine is far better solution.
MIG-29 hasn’t been used by superpower to smash small countries. so its record not good yet.

There is no need to supply heavy weopons or cross the border. Ukraine is defence less against Ruaf airstrikes.
