    They are western in sense that they are using westen engines, design influences, components etc. it does not mean they are the best as the countries behind building them has relatively less money, experience with low yearly production volume.

    Mistral is very paltry sum of $1.5b deal. infact Russia can offer direct employment to French workers at higher pay and lower taxes.
    Russia is going to profit from sanctions. Russia does not take France seriously so not even responding to French politicians babbling.

    French Auto industry and Airbus is depended on Russia.

    Not only do they build a better R-27 with a better motor engine they are building it with a better seeker as well. Here is a country that was gifted much of Soviet technology before the separation with full blue prints to the designs of the Alamo and as well the R-77 to play with.

    Yes, its a fact both India and China buy Ukraine missiles. Well for one we can agree that it is cheaper but also two, it is just as good as the Russian variant without the potential monkey string attached to it.

    And no I am not crazy, Russia do build fine weapons herself but just saying Ukraine Alamo’s is not to be overlooked and does offer an alternative to the Russian counterpart. Again, I apologize for swaying off topic this is no need for the stronk measuring here. Just posting for good laughs only. 😉

    These are claims from manufacturer and no one has tested to verify it independently. and there is big difference between one of missiles and high quality production. China/India no longer buying them. it is past tense. Russia moving K-77M with AESA seeker having 40 mile greater range.

    I was told they refurbished most of their AF in-house they were left with a lot of industries and spare parts to work with. Ukraine Su-27 by no means is in the same class as new Russian Su-27SM but Ukraine does possess superior air-to-air missiles. It is said they manufacture a superior version of the R-27 missile with a much better IR seeker. Even China and India buys their missiles and seekers instead of going directly to Russia.

    China/India are very new to AAM missile tech and also stingy with money since large airforce need large number of missiles. They will not be able to afford export prices from Russia on large scale.
    there is no way Ukraine can built a superior version of R-27. the industrial supply chain is quite old.

    And also their SAM network is no slouch even for an old dog they are still better armed and just as good as any of the European heavies, maybe even better in terms of air-defense hardware. The left over BukM1, Pechora, Tugunska and S-300P is still a potent machine as long as their are trained soldiers that knows how to operate them. Ukraine would lose a shooting war but they do have the firepower to inflict oncoming threat.

    This is 1980s network at best with questionable training. they simply don’t have any fire power to damage anything but itself.

    Only region with a majority of ethnic Russians is Crimea. They’re outnumbered by Ukrainians in every oblast, though IIRC some cities in E. Ukraine have a Russian majority.

    if Ukraine does not get real bailout. support can quickly evaporate for Ukraine central government so those numbers don’t matter.

    Oil/gold move higher so this could in the end profitable for Russian state.

    how old are the missiles.? and they do have the money to incorporate latest electronics and software continously.
    there is no electronics pod on wing tip or center line. Are new engines bought or still flying with 1980s engines.
    I not going into pilot and latest simulator trainings. its very hard to defend when strike can come from north, south, east simulataneously.
    Ukraine was even behind Belarus in recent Olympics. Ukraine institutions are in decay and they look like going to default. one will sell them oil.

    What difference source? af.mil factsheet? So kilogram as a weight unit change from manufacturer to manufacturer? 1 kg for LM is actually 3 kg for Boeing, right..

    By the way, even the numbers you give does not support your claim (22+12+12 = 46 != 45).

    it is not some exact science. Su-34 is around 45.4 tons. this small variations all the time depending on equipment. the problem was you were adding two tons extra to MIG-29M weight over MIG-29A.

    I was under the impression the Russians were still lacking in the cashy money dept.

    current investments in infrastructure will allow it to fund 6th generation fighter beyond pakfa in post 2020 period. I am sure during prototype testing of pakfa a lot of experience will be gained so better start work now. it takes couple of years of design, material work before first flight.

    Money is least of problem. . It could be the 6th generation project of post 2020.

    So B-1B has 216 tons MTOW, can carry 23 tons external and 34 tons internal payload an has 120 tons fuel capacity; it is about 39 tons empty right???:very_drunk: LOL you are off by 47 tons :stupid: Margin of error 120% :eagerness: After explaining MTOW 3 times with a dozen examples, I will leave you with your flawed way of thinking.

    you are comparing different sources. not same manufacturer. I will not even compare MIG & Su let alone different countries specifications. Su-34 is at 45 ton approximately. 22 ton weight, 12 ton fuel, 12 ton external payload. so I also give example. so I also explain it 3rd time.

    And I would say there is no way Su-35 matching the 16.3 ton empty weight of Su-27S, too.

    If Su-27 is 16.3 ton than Su-35 is about 15.5 ton. Su-35 has 34.5 MTOW. deduct 11.5 ton fuel and 8 ton weopon load. you get 15.5 ton. Su-35 has 3600km range with 4AAM. which is consistent with its weight and engine power.

    In fact he mentions MiG-29M has comperable climb acceleration etc performance to MiG-29A and have greater precision and better controllability at higher AOA. Agreed on comperable, I am debating “better or not”.

    Its better. just look at heavier MIG-29K takeoffs with RD-33MK engines.

    -Better aerodynamic optimization at cruise speed? Baseline MiG-29A has superior acceleration to F-15A or Su-27S at sea level, despite inferior T/W. At 345m/s at S/L, it also has higher max SEP than both, -again- despite inferior T/W. I think that should tell us how efficient MiG-29 is on straight line. IDK if Rafale is better or not in a straight line, but my mk1 eyeball inspection says I would put my money on MiG-29.

    -Baseline “smokey” RD-33s on MiG-29A have 75kg/kN.h specific fuel consumption. Snecma M88 on Rafale has 79,44kg/kN.h, in other words original RD-33 is more fuel efficient than M88. Add to that, MiG-29’s variable inlets are both less restrictive than S ducts on rafele and have better pressure recovery (yes, even at M0,8). I think its safe to assume FADEC equipped smokeless RD-33MKs are even more efficient than RD-33?

    Both factors combined, MiG-29 should require less thrust because its less draggy(debatable, theorizing), and generate that thrust more efficiently by consuming less fuel?. Its a reasonable assumption IMHO.

    However your logic of comparing range with fuel is flawed; 4460 kg for 2000 km range on MiG-29M = 2,23 kg of fuel per km. MiG-29A has 3300 kg fuel for 1430 km range = 2,31 kg of fuel per km. By your logic, you declare MiG-29M to be lighter right?

    Then compare F-14B and F-35A with same method. F-14B = 2000km with 7348 kg = 3,67 kg per km, F-35 = 2220km with 8320 kg = 3,73 kg/km. How does your logic explain the fact F-14B is more fuel efficient than F-35A despite being 6,5 tons heavier, having 1 ton less fuel, and having 56+kN more thrust compared to F-35A? It has a massive cockpit too. 😀

    And my point is, you cannot judge the impact of adding 150 kg or 1500 kg by simply looking at the airshows; OVT can have 3 deg/s inferior STR perfomance on paper, and you wont even notice it. Watching blk30 and blk50 F-16s both in videos and in person, I have never noticed any performance difference. But there is; at sea level (where airshows are made) blk30 can match or beat any aircraft of its era in a sustained turn (and i would bet it can also beat the current ones, including F-22), but the blk50 stays largely inferior to the aircraft of its era. This is a huge difference, IMO. As an another example, can you say Su-34 airshows are bad? Or just by looking, you can say there is full 5 ton weight difference from standard Su-27?

    For you maybe. If you ask my opinion MiG-29 was always a “safe” design; While all ground breaking technologies are applied on Su-27, while it was completely redesigned for superior aerodynamics, or it’s advanced avionics delayed to get operational status, there was the MiG-29 which protected SU airspace.

    MiG-29M should have been THE MiG-29 from the beginning. Relaxed stable, longer ranged, flexible, open for development. It -or MiG-35- come 20 years too late to be called future proof. That is my opinion though.

    MIG-35 development is at same time line as F-16E. F-16 need CFTs but MIG-35 not only include enhance internal fuel but larger cockpit and nose. Always remember the engine power, size of aircraft (hence drag). MIG-29A is just smaller aircraft.

    Nonsense. MTOW weight has nothing to do with internal fuel or external payload. Baseline Su-27S has 16300 kg empty weight, it can carry 9220 kg usable fuel and can carry 4430 kg of payload, totals out at 29950 kgs. Its MTOW is however dependent on landing gear bus type, 28000 or 33000kgs. Su-34 22300kg empty, 8000kg payload 11400kg fuel = 41700 kgs, yet have 45100 kg MTOW. Tu-160 = 110000 kg empty, 171000kg fuel capacity 40000 kg payload capacity = 321000kg yet MTOW = 275000kg.

    baseline Su-27 is 1970s product built on 1960s machinery. it has nothing to do with MIG-29K

    I can name dozens of of other examples. MTOW is just as the name suggest, maximum weight an aircraft can take off from required runway distance. It may be limited by structural reasons (ie if you load too much weight it will break), or by aerodynamic reasons (it cannot generate enough lift at the end of the runway for take off).

    I also can give you example of Su-35.

    MiG-35 may have lightweight avionics, but it has much more numerous avoincs and other equipment so thats not a valid comparison. Original 9.12 did not even have chaff/flare dispansers. MiG-35 has a potent AESA, MAWS, much improved RWR all will add to weight. More advanced materials in greater amounts yes, but MiG-35 has double the lifetime of 9.12. From your analogy, F-16 blk60 could be lighter than F-16A, because of advances in materials and avionics, but that does not hold true; Its full 2,5 tons heavier than the original. Again, MiG-29A weigh 10900 kgs, MiG-29M 13380 kgs. Suprise; its also 2,5 tons heavier. Somehow if you think some Russian magic will make MiG-35 full 2,5 tons lighter despite the bigger long life airframe and more avionics, you are mistaken.

    Its Russian unique design and material science capabilities that make fighter weight down with enhanced engine and capabilities. even TVC not a problem

    1- Did you measured the climb, turn or acceleration performance? 600 to 1100 km/h time? S/L climb rate? ITR? STR? To be very honest, I’ve always found OVT shows to be lacking the sudden acceleration and sustained turn performance of ordinary MiG-29, maybe related to the show planning IDK.
    2-IIRC, engines did not recieve MK upgrade, instead they are RD-133s with new smokeless FADEC and uprated to 5600kg dry 9000kg, which was the basis of the RD-33MK?

    MIG-29OVT predates RD-33Mk certification .The point I am making is that such heavy thing like TVC did not have big impact on performance.

    3- Relevance? Like other aircraft, MiG-29 is built by man, and upgraded by man using present days technology. I thought it would be relevant to say there is no single example of a fighter that got lighter than the initial variant, after recieving several iterations of thorough upgrades.

    MIG-29 is fundamentally very sound and future proof design. you have to admit certain designs have more upgrade flexibility than others. that’s why its on small carriers of Russian and India.

    Yes, I agree…that’s why they tried to mitigate their risk by transferring assembly to Russia itself from the Ukraine….just like the Il-76 MD is being built in Russia rather than Uzbekistan where the original factory was in Soviet times…

    My query was the selection of the Il-76 in the first place….it seems it was more to do with the reasons you mentioned rather the merits of a 40 year old design….seems the Il-76MD was the only show in town for them while the Chinese have gone their own way with the Y-20….Trident nailed this over about 20 pages a few months ago in the Russian thread

    An-70 is practically worthless for Ruaf despite all the statements about its need and to keep the supplier on Ukranian side in business.
    IL-476 superior cruising speed 850km/hr, longer range 52 tons to 5000km, more reliable engines with huge investment and time behind it. certified with big AESA antenna. multifunctional tanker/transport/AWACs. faster into production the most important criteria.

    F-18E is 15 tons+ on boeing site. the rest are just assumptions.

    Two-seat version MiG-29KUB, possibly, has weight not less than 13.700 kg. These are rough estimates. For comparison, the weight of empty weight F-18E makes 13.387 kg, two-seat F-18F – 13.880 kg (the information western sources). Sometimes empty weight F-18E/F is accepted to identical size (13.880 kg). Thus, empty weight МiG-29К/КUB (13.300/13800) it is practically identical with F-18E/F (13.387/13.880

    Don’t mix things. The F 15 E can carry that weapon load + 5,4 t of fuel in CFTs + 4,8 t in EFTs not ot mention the~ 6 t in internal tanks, while in Rafale case, you should subtract the fuel load from those 9500 kg…. apples and oranges…

    5.4ton fuel in CFT?. F-15K 20ton empty. 36.5 ton MTOW. it can only take 10 ton external+6 ton internal.
