Taiwan/Korea and Russia have more impressive trade surpluses when in former case it’s small population while in later case the best brains are working on non exportable classified work both in digital and not digital space all the way to space technologies. Germany/Japan surpluses originate from supply to final integration work done in US/UK/France or even Brazil/China/Italy. Germany/Japan can never handle a complex work like engine or fighter aircraft by themselves . It will have same result like there construction projects that are even less complex .
JSRIn the end Germany already operates the Typhoon which is already a multi role type and they have the option to buy more with added capabilities. MAybe they will and maybe they won’t buy more to replace Tornado but really this doesn’t need to be a contest in “My plane is better than yours because of reasons…”!
the luftwaffie EF is now where near as technically advanced as Rafale and EF in German service need a lot of imported subsystems and weopons. the issue is If Germany has to import systems and weopons to make EF competitive with Rafale. why not import from French.
JSRErr.. Germany isn’t in a dire need of an FCAS either. We are after all discussing a system that will enter service in the 2040s. Feasible or not, its not a one-sided deal. Germany gets a far greater degree of local investment than the alternative (presumably the US F-X) while R&D as well as production costs for France are lowered. The French can go solo but they’ll have to foot the full bill for a 5.5 gen fighter with little respite likely through export sales since the market will most probably have been cornered by whatever the Americans are churning out by the dozens. There’s no obligation on Germany to respond to the ‘gesture’ with an unnecessary Rafale purchase that wouldn’t go down too well with the GAF anyway.
Germany has no obligation to France?. Unless some one living in cave they won’t be making this statement. start with this whole East EU fiasco than Mistral cancellation than Turkey and refugee cost deal. Already France got EU banking authority . They need to keep the pressure for 6G fighter funding. You simply not admitting that French technology is superior that rest of world needs while most of Germanic industrial robot technology is produced in China . Germany is simply not diversified in technology. It need to follow French in fighter development.

Its about French interest. Since France is biggest symbol of EU in Tourism, banking and in Industry. the coming electrification wave of automobiles and clean air in Asia will make natural gas both LNG and pipe the most money making business. who is going to provide that business to French industry?. certainly not Germany or Eastern EU.
France will need to built all new generation of weopons on much greater scale to be competitive in export markets. It need to make sure German labor and money is utilized for benefit of French industry.

Germany never invested as they should have to make it progress as it could have progressed. NEVER. Not that they could not as they were probably the richest partner in the Eurofighter consortium all along, but because there was NO POLITICAL WILL to do it. JSRThe operative phrase being ‘current’. As far as Germany is concerned, it makes far more sense to invest in upgrading the EF to equal or exceed that capability than it does to invest in an entirely new platform.
how Germany can make advanced version of EF when the basic version need other countries help and that was in 1980s-90s. now the skilled demographic, economics all against it. Its better to buy off the shelf Rafale. as sooner or later Franch weopons will be dominating EU due to that PESCO and wider export market.

What country would provide Germany with the nuclear weapon to be equipped by a Tornado replacement US or Russia?

Looking to the East and Far East
The whole Germanic prosperity started with Russian energy system on long contracts in europe, importing Turkish labor (Turks always feared Russians so there face is to Europe) and last couple of decades oversize profits in corporate Germany due to millions of autos and industrial machinery sold and built in China. and all those tourists and investors from Asia and Middleast pass through Russian control airspace to spend money there. now Russia is getting real technologically advanced and wealthy it will use Arabs/Turks/Asian/Latin and offcourse other Europeans inside Europe to impose constraints on Germany to make it more dysfunctional.

The flight is not so long considering Tu-214 range. but in Middleast flying in smaller plane is very bad for optics. it is like trying to save money.

The problem until this point is Russia hasnt created the LNG/transport infrastructure in East that can benefit from high prices immediately if it chose to escalate in real and enforce no fly zones. any such escalation will benefit other producers or sink other economies. so there is a year or two left.

Very interesting Putin travelled on Tu-214PU instead of 4 engine Il-96-300PU which he normally does even for short distance , must be to avoid any one picking up of him travelling to Syria.
Putin travels in two IL-96-300PU. These are the most heavily traveled special mission aircraft.
