As for the Rafale, while it could replace the Tornados easily, nobody expected the germans to buy it anyway, as it would be complicated to pretend to sell teh Typhoon (as they still try here and there) and buy the first competitor to it at the same time. Now, considering the future developments of the french fighters, saying “France doesn’t have the money” is incorrect.. they have the money they decide to invest in it. If it’s too low on their list of priorities, there will be no funding. if they decide it is needed, the funding will be there… it only depend on who’s in charge at a given moment
France neither has the skills nor the money to create 5G engine let alone the whole project. It need all the German skills and money to finish it. if they not there France future projects are practically shelved. not even Rafale engine upgrade on table. than there is whole cost of weopons. that will make it uncompetitive. and when weopons not competitive not even UCAV weopons can survive the cost surge. only Chinese UCAV in Middleast. that is just start of spreading into other sectors.

Bruno Revelin Falcoz, the father of the rafale, states directly that Rafale frontal RCS is equivalent to a smal bird which puts it in the VLO category. That would be for a “clean” rafale of course.

That isn’t at all what the article is stating. The discrepancy is stated twice, the underlying assumption that 27 aircraft could meet the same operational tempo of 44 F-16’s. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the bigger issue is that a smaller fleet will pose a greater risk to meeting operational requirements.
So, please do explain where the system is “rigged”, or is this your attempt to make a supposition that somehow Denmark would have been able to purchase more airframes from Boeing, Dassault, etc.
F-35 carries more than twice the internal fuel of F-16 so it should stay airborne longer with longer range sensors.

JSRthing is, we are talking about the future european fighter, which is a german-french project to replace the Rafale and the Typhoon, so, if it’s meant to replace the Rafale, obviously, the french will want it to have a naval version. What’s more, when one sees the dependence of the F-35 on the USA, you can be pretty certain that the french will no be willing to consider anything like it (or its successor which will, most certainly, retain similar policy)
as for “projecting power to 3rd world countries”, that’s what everybody does… all nations try to justify their spendings with the “near peer” scarecrow while, at the same time, nobody in these countries will ever risk going to war against anyone even close to be “near peer”.

The number of US plane needing to be replaced will sustain production at over 60 plane for at least three decades. That production rate will see mass US deployment of F35 to foreign bases.
Those are three things you’re plain wrong about there are other points where you’re probably wrong. You haven’t made one point that isn’t probably wrong are just wrong. Beside noticing the size difference between the F16 and F35.
I am always right. the cost of attracting , training and retaining pilots are huge. F-35 came at wrong time. US has not invested in relatively fast trains so commercial airlines booming.
it simply not possible to put averages across the fleet. you need trillions to replace nuclear weopons. budget simply not there to do two things at same time. there is no evidence yet of sustain 60 aircraft production. there is no deployment to Middleast for actual sustain bomb dropping. F-35 simply not saving money by replacing many fighters. time is running out as around 2019 US feel the impact of reduce demand of dollar reserves.

10% more costly than F-16?. just the weight alone of F-35 is 80% more. than add the drag of fatter body. it means it need a lot more fuel to go simply from point A to Point B. Pilot salaries are well over 20 times when F-16 entered service. the base support is extremely expensive for F-35. you wont see 30 to 40 F-35 or F-22 outside CONUS US on missions. only small number for show deployment. even B-2 cannot be used for sustain operation. even production rate of 60 is not sustainable after few years.
JSRThe issues with F-35 are different since it is a clean sheet aircraft with an aggressive ramp up even if one factors in the much reduced and prolonged production increase as compared to what was originally envisioned.
F-35 is no longer clean sheet design. the engine and shape are pretty much standard for past 20 years.
Production rate has gone from a couple of dozen a year to 60+ in a matter of 3-5 years and will be 100+ very shortly.
when was 60+ production rate achieved. how many years it sustained. and when is the word shortly realized.
Moreover, overall USAF logistics and readiness is crippled by the service having its hands tied due to constant CRs which are now the norm and not the exception. Add the fact that the budget uncertainty (where you are incentivized to ignore long term interests in favor of short term gains) and large production rate increase is happening concurrently to RDT&E completion and you get where you are
USAF has the cheapest/smallest inventory consist of majority of F-16/F-15 and still has affordability problem for readiness. imagine a lot more expensive F-35 introduced.
Israel/Egypt/Turkey combined obsorbed upto 1000s F-16s but they will be lucky to afford 50 F-35 in next 10 years.
