    May I ask where is the source for this 9750?

    If my memory works well, the top speed for initial version of JF-17 was supposed to be M1.8, whereas the recent version was down to M.1.6 by DSI’s contribution.
    The climb rate for JAS-39 is no less than 250m/s and any great data out of JF-17?
    The ITR and STR for JAS-39 officially claimed as 30d/s and 20d/s, what about JF-17?
    And there is an assurance for one who claimed advantage on JF-17’s side lacking confidence of roll rate comparison between JF-17 and JAS-39.

    250m/sec is nothing special. Gripen is relative heavy weight fighter considering the amount of composite used. with small fuel capacity relative to its size (aka wing area) with small nose.

    I know most of the VW lineup ( Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda, Porsche, Audi, VW) The entire tech is developed in Germany. The only time I see Chinese being involved is during localisation and in some cases because Chinese Government does not allow certification to be done outside or because some information is not allowed to be taken outside like Navteq maps etc. EA888, B6, B3 Bluemotion, PDK, DSG, EWB, ENSS, quattro, TSI, W16, blah blah blah every damn thing is developed in Germany. I hear test runs in Ehra Lessien every week. 0 tests done in China. Only road test for locally manufactured kits. VW outsources manufacturing, SW, Support, Financing. Everything else is designed in EU!!! Same with Apple, Sony, Samsung, Intel, Seagate and 100000 other companies. Have you seen the top 500 Patent applicants in EU and US??? Its dominated by Japanese, US, S. Korean, German companies.

    Japan Auto Market is half the size of 1990s. Japanese cannot afford there own manufactured goods. Inflation is artificially depressed by importing.
    They need Chinese labor to manufacture and consumers to remain profitable. That gap is increasing each year not just because of money and labor but higher energy prices. Chinese have access to shale gas/cheaper gas from Central Asia. Japan buys super expensive LNG. Its Nuclear reactors getting old and unsafe. lack of hard currency (they have to support Yen) give further edge to Chinese to lock raw materials at much lower prices. Make no doubt about it Japan/Germany cannot survive without China.

    Indeed, so true. How could we be so oblivious? Airbus, Boeing and Co would fall apart without Chinese skilled Engineers/scientists/Skilled workers. Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, BAe, Areva, Siemens, Thyssenkrupp, MAN, VW … the list is endless indeed.:eek::eek:

    GM/VW is practically saved by China. No other country can buy there products at profitable prices in quantity. Most of suppliers to Auto industries are also suppliers to Aviation industries. Collapse of Auto industry has very negative impact on components prices across several industries.
    Japan/Germany is even worse shape. They simply cannot afford to militarize. Aging population with nearly complete dependency on China.

    There is no shortage of such skilled people in most high-tech Western countries and I can not see the MiG-31 will get Meteor AAMs in the distant future even. 😉

    sure there is shortage of skilled people in most advanced western countries thats why so much work is outsourced. see Chinese parts used in Bombardier Trains.
    if Germany/Japan decide to re armed on same scale as Russia/China Auto/Machine tools industries will simply collapse for lack of scientiest/engineers/skilled workers. and with collapse of those industries there will be no budget to fund arms industry.
    Arms industry is very manpower, material and energy intensive industry.

    Meteor is going to be the best missile for a long long time. As your references progress so will MDBA, and meteor 2.0 will be out. I really dont see your point.

    Meteor is in development for 10 to 30 years depending on which reference point. and it will take untill 2015 for earlier aircrafts to get operationalized. It is the slowest development of AAM in world history. F-16 is not so large which does not say much about Gripen nose. radar backend is well beyond mid point of nose. It will be just more expensive and challenging in integrating futuristic GaN based AESA.

    A very strange claim to stay polite. Manufacturing AAMs in numbers is no issue in a high-tech country should the need arise. Every AAM has a limited life-time of some years or a number of flight-hours. Whatever will be reach first. To store or keep thousands of ageing AAMs in peace-time is just a waste of money. It should be better used for a constant development work and the limited number of AAMs in need for that. 😉

    It is not strange claim to stay polite. You need properly trained skilled workers to produce AAMs. and suppliers need to be profitable enough not to go out of business. they need even more people for quality control and large number of tests yearly. AAM behavior lunched from MIG-31 speed and altitude is different than MIG-29. so missiles need to be tested for all type of aircrafts.

    Meteor production is slow and expensive. The only constant is always delays. Rafale will get Meteor around 2018.

    Well you seem to know little about what youre saying. Swiss AF ordered E/F versions and Swe AF is about to, and its 33% more power. Tiny nose? it fits as big radar as f-16. Meteor is the best missile out there, cant seem to see your problem with it.

    is contract signed with manufacturing schedule. Meteor is best missile out there? and will it be best missile for ever. as so little is manufactured.

    for some reason Gripen Nose from side profile looks thinner.

    JF-17 has brighter future than all MiG-29 and 35 variants too

    Currently there is 45 MIG-29K for IN and 24 MIG-29K for RN to be manufactured around 2013-2015. If RN MIG-29K does not get AESA radar in 2013-2015 time frame. I fully expect they will get it through mid life upgrade together with IN MIG-29K in 2025-2030 time frame.
    These MIG-29K already has IRST that JF-17 lacks.and i fully expect those MIG-29K will be integrated with latest AAMs/PGM being developed for PAK-FA/Su-35/Su-34.
    Even the current Kh-31PM/Kh-31AD/Kh-35 outranges all the missile integrated into JF-17. MIG-29K has 5 wet stations that JF-17 lacks. JF-17 current lacks RD-33MK class smoke free engine. at best it will become at par with MIG-29K RD-33MKM engine at some future date.
    That is assuming MIG does not get any new built order beyond 2015 manufacturing date.

    Problem with JAS-39 is no one has ordered new built NG. and no one is going to fund converting old JAS-39C into JAS-39NG. so the same underpowered engine with tiny nose. Only thing it has now is Meteor and it will gets expensive with time as less of Meteor are manufactured per year with less improvements.
    There is no way it can compete with thousands of AAMs that will be manufactured for PLAAF and Ruaf in coming decades.

    When MiG-21 legacy is clearly visible in the JF-17 it is far beyond MiG-21 bis. MiG-21 has some airframe limitations like small nose that limit is from using any proper radar.

    On the other hand JF-17 has rather limited capabilities, no advanced targeting pod, and no BVR missile. Hard to say if it has anything like modern, interested ECM system – like ASPIS from advanced F-16s or Spectra from Rafale.

    Remember that MiG-21bison in India is the solution to fill the gap and eventually all Bisons will be replaced by MMRCA (the Rafale). On the other hand JF-17 for Pakistan is the future platform for like next 30 years.

    when you look at 30 years horizon JF-17 future is much brighter than Rafale/Gripen.
    Remember India cannot fund development of M2K upgrade. It has to buy standard template upgrade of M2K from France. So there is no engine/ AESA Radar/missile upgrade. If France is not integrating Meteor into M2K. Most likely there will be no Meteor for IAF M2K. similar will be the case for latest antiship missiles. I dont see how Gripen can do better. There is lack of investment beyond 20,000lbs engine in EU. And once F-35 start entering service. The same thing will happen to F414 interms of upgrades and prices.

    JF-17 upgrades solely depends on China. new weopons/AESA/EW/engines/manufacturing/materials from vast Chinese development will ultimately trickle down to JF-17. It is like buying a $50 microprocessor without taking into account the $5b fab and $5b in R&D.

    I dont think the engines of that particular MIG is replaced. you can see that JF-17 afterburner on but not that much smoke.

    The Norwegian defence budget of approx 40 billion NOK allocate approximate a quarter, or a little less than 10 billion NOK for material procurement. I think it is pretty obvious that the F-35 procurement must be done within these cost frames. It would mean that most other investments are placed on hold. It was however the military that chose the most expensive plane available:confused:

    Norway is a very rich country, but the state still use extremely little money on infrastructure; total approx 25 billion NOK a year on road and rail road. This makes our infrastructure rot for every year.

    Therefore, I do not expect the military to get increased budget for the F-35. Money has to be taken from other parts of the defence forces. It does not bode well for the army ( which is already almost nullified), nor the navy.:(

    Norway is as much rich country as Qatar and Saudi. It is possibly the only country in world that nominal GDP is twice the size of GDP on PPP. There is no industrial and scientific base to support its current standard of living.
    I agree it will only be able to afford F-35 if every thing else is not modernized.

    My reasoning is pretty simple. you can never achive production efficiency with military products if your increasing there capabilities with time and
    Commoidities price can fluctuate but not of complex military product. they have only one way to go and that is up.
    Japan was extremely low inflation country in that period with the most advanced robotics/lean manufacturing techniques. Japan had money and manpower in 1990s. they could have invented that low cost manufacturing technique but they were unable.

    There is cost involved in achiveing production efficieny. it is much harder to achive in military production as there is not that many alternatives in supply chain.
    Military production cost only go up with complexity. while consumer electronics goes down as multiple firms are using same supply chain. and that supply chain itself is getting bigger with fater profits.

    Well, i’m convinced cost of AESA is going to drop,
    and in addition buying later all but assure better electronics, busses etc.

    remember microprocessor prices only went down when multiple $5b fabs are built around the world. and most of small manufacturers went out of business.
    AESA prices are not going to go down unless there is big investment in production and decent yearly production. Rafale/F-2 built at rate of 8 to 10 year with AESA is going to be expensive.

    You could say the same thing about the Chinese military and aerospace industry – Which country’s military has actually taken delivery of more new aircraft in the last 5 – 10 years, China or Russia? And why would the Chinese aerospace industry need to sell more JF-17s – they already sell plenty of MA60s.

    China created JF-17 for political reason as low cost fighter for third world as China need third world more than Russia need third world.
    Russia is not going to do that. wages are higher so low cost product that is not bought by Ruaf is not going to be profitable. In addition there is real inflation in defence products. So any thing bought in 2012 is far better than buying it in 2017. so why export Su-35 when later the same thing is going to cost more.
    China also has taken delivery for more fighters than USAF/USN in past 10 year as they are merely catching up to 1980s with likes of JH-7 that is even inferior to upgraded Su-24M/Su-27SM in ground attack role. And China simply cannot compete in large complex products . See the quantity of medium to heavy lift chopper both for transport and attack.
    China will never be able to mass produced long range strike aircraft in quantities (J-20 is show plane ).
    Russia needs those more complex and longer range aircrafts to be able demonstrate military power to Middleast as the more it threatens Middleast or take sides in conflict the higher Oil prices goes up. These have negative effects on budgets/currencies of India/China. They will not be able to afford the higher prices of Russian products future unlike in past.
