I read it has 6500 km range in basic version with higher speed than competitors not.Thegger version will be more. This thing is approaching wide body market.
I don’t care about used terms, frankly..
Russia does not need a fleet of carriers. The geographic situation is completely different, Russia spans throughout the whole Eurasia. Whatever country of interest is located there, they can easily reach using other means. The only continent Russians would not be able to deploy onto effectively are the Americas, especially Latin America.
Aircraft carrier can’t sustain without friendly bases . Latin America does not have strong airdefence or airforce . Russian Navy ships sufficiently protected against them. Russia need one friendly country there for airbase . In fact it’s far easy to send MIG29k down there. Countries are now divided in only two categories either like China where 10 carrier at one place will not work or others where one is sufficient provided rest of flotilla and bombers can smash all fixed targets with stand off weopons.
Well now we are moving into the politics of matter. Yes i think we can all agree on that US is expansionist in their nature and thereby use their military might as a tool.
While i wont go into the morality of things. I think we can say USA started this in WW2 with the massive Marines deployment in Pacific. After that it was Korea, then Vietnam.
What i mean is the logistic capability to deploy huge amount of material and troop over sea like we saw in Vietnam, DS too for that matter, that is something Russia cannot do cause they lack the capability.
Russia do have a large air transport fleet on paper, but i would question its reaction and operation. And while talking about Navy capability, remember the Mistrales? If those would have happen, how many was it in total, four? That would be several billions of $$$
Its not as if Russia don’t want them(the capability). Cause they do.
If Russia was with south Vietnam than south Vietnam will definitely would have won. by Vietnam time Soviets were sufficiently recovered from WW2 and only simplified Soviet weopons and systems can win war. Mistral would add very little to syrian compaign and more likely favour to French
Don’t worry NATO used Volga transport .
Wtf! So now Russia is not a NC Superpower!
What other term is best used then?
You are arguing out of nothing.
Russia can’t mount a fleet of carrier on short notice to deploy to different teathers and bring with them large Marines units and support them with large air transport fleet.
Beside Russia has 2-3 bases outside Russia. USA have over 150 military bases around the world.
That make USA a GOLBAL power(if you want, use Superpower, i do not care) in terms of conventional military might.
And Russia a Regional power. Now do you find anything in this little game of words to twist?
US takes a month for one aircraft carrier against north korea. It will take mere hours for Russia to wipe out Middleastern oil and close all air corridors. C17 will not have place to land . and since C17/C-5 can hardly be refuel from air. The logistics will be gone. the heat of Qatar is not the same as Latika nor the water supply. Flag waving is one thing and effectiveness of military compaign totally different. Russia does not need bases it is effectively squeezing money out of countries that have Nato bases like Turkey/Germany or Qatar. I am sure new methods will be developed against Korea /Japan to squeeze them. The point is Russia can squeeze more countries than US if it choose at short notice . I don’t see how Trump can bend Mexico or Canada.
Russia is not the parallel superpower that the USSR was. Nobody is saying that. But Russia is a step above most other powers other than the US. Most countries that have the money (Germany Japan UK) don’t have mature expertise and industry for indigenous power on land air sea and space. The Euro space program imported a turn key system from Russia. China and India use Russian jet engines.
GLONASS for example. Only Russia has a parallel competing satellite positioning system.
It’s wrong to assume that Japan or Germany has the money. If they employ there critical labor to scale up the defence and space industry the civilian industry will go kaput. They don’t have productive land like Russia.
It’s not just the industry that need high quality people in millions to support armed forces across the logistic chain and than the real people who need to be trained for effective use of the system. Every new Sukhoi is coming out with big EW pods from factory. These pods will need rapid updates and pilot training and than simulators. The fighters need to be built with newer stronger light weight materials to deal with heavy stuff on wing tips. . It’s huge task as systems are getting more complex. Rosatom is the integrated center of supercomputing and material science that used across the industries Scientist need big organizations and big budgets in one place.
What he means with Continental power, its the same as Regional Power.
Russia do not have 180 military bases around the world. They do not have 10 super carriers and lots of smaller carrier fleet to travel the world.
Hense, Russia is a Regional power, and not a global power in terms of their military.
you dont need 180 bases or aircraft carrier to deliver round the clock the cruise missiles and billisitic missiles. it needs highly efficient industrial chain and effective R&D. with high quality people in force structure. Ruaf dropped more bombs and cruise missiles in Syria than all the rest of coalition combined. and that despite that Ruaf logistics are going zigzag to avoid this wide Turkey.
out of those 180 bases how many can support armoured division to hold the ground if the local government is overthrown?.
i can bet if Russia goes back to libya and Afghanistan it will be alot more effective than any one else.
Few details that have been released are available on this forum and has been documented extensively elsewhere. The AN/APG-82 utilizes the antenna and power supply systems of the APG-63(V)3 and the processors based on the AN/APG-79. The two F-15 family radars are among the largest US Fighter AESA antennas out there
$3b is clearly insufficient investment. it need some thing like $300b with much enhanced engine power.
Looks like more money will be spent on Ground Forces in 2018-2025 compared to others , In SAP 2011-2020 Ground forces received least money.
I am not sure if this is due to the experence of Ukraine and Syrian conflict but Rogozin in interview calls US a Sea Power and Russia Continental one https://sputniknews.com/politics/201…itary-program/
“If we talk about building aircraft carriers — technically and technologically the Russian defense industry is capable of creating such a ship. There is a technical project and the work on it has never stopped. But there is a question to the military whether they need such a ship. Unlike the US, we are a great continental power, and [therefore] we have different priorities,” Rogozin said.
I see Russia does not have a large Standing Army , May be it has biggest Land Mass but does that Make Russia a Great Continental Power ?
its not about doctorine but technological change. One refuelling of T-50 or Su-34 will give more than 7000km range. Those Su-30 limited to 5600km with one refuelling. i am not counting the improvements in bomber and UAV technology for range and loitering time.
Improvements in AWACS/Radar and space survellence will further decrease the likely hood of suddent attack. these are all platform improvements.
the range, speed and stealthness of cruise missiles increaing. i will not be surprized with 20,000km range cruise missiles. so why create ships that are more target of opportunity with manpower in one place and ships also slow, the same 30knots for decades. while fighter cruise speed nearly double.
Why would I look at a MiG-35?
Su-35 specifications are 15 years old. There is tremendous advancement in material and manufacturing technology. Look at rosatom material technology website.
I wouldn’t rely on Youtube videos of airshows to assess the combat capabilities of aircraft. Also the F-15E is a lot lighter than the Su-35S – T/W ratio should be better?
Look at MIG35 and than imgine Su-35 performance.
they had slow implementation.

The same logic could also apply to the PAK FA – the Russian government didn’t hesitate.
so you comparing wealth and scientific power of Russia with Japan. Japan has extreme dependence for medium tech things mass production on China/Vietnam/Malaysia/thailand etc that slightly complicated Mitsubishi MRJ Japan basically thrown the towel even with 90% imported components and testing outside Japan. because Mistubishi MRJ cant be mass producted in the rest of Asia so chances of its mass production are very dim. the last great thing on Japan perspective was that Mitsubishi F2 that belong to early 90s technology.
Rogozin on aircraft carrrier vs ground force spending. bomber is more important.
https://sputniknews.com/politics/201705201053818833-russia-military-program/
We have not given up our plans on the prospective air complex for long-range aviation. The work on [the complex] is beginning,” Rogozin told Vesti v Subbotu program, adding that the first PAK DA could be produced by 2023-2024.
Russia has experience in most of the relevant technologies but stealth isn’t something that they have experience in. That is likely a big part of why the PAK FA is running so late
.
PAKFA is flat aircraft with FBW control 3D TVC designed for higher altitude and speed with longest range on internal fuel of any fighter its not medium altitude aircraft. it is 6 generation airframe.
smart skin.

The unique system of active and passive radars and optical rangefinders is integrated into the aircraft body and acts as a “smart skin”. Its use not only enhances the aircraft’s protection against jamming and its survivability, but also counters, to a great extent, the effects of low-observability (stealth) technology of enemy aircraft, the Concern’s Press Service reports.
did those pics posted.
