Obama has upgraded Russia to status of military superpower. I am sure its due to demonstration of military force in Syria. Russia can also teach him real economics but he wont stay long enough to see it.

Russia is an important country. It is a military superpower.
what is a 5th generation design ?
5G design relative to 4G has bigger nose to carry big radar, bigger internal fuel capacity for loitering and sustain high speed for weopon launch, bigger engine for surplus power.
flexibility wise there is not a big difference between M2K and Rafale. M2K need CFT and slightly more powerfull engine and it will do practically all the work of Rafale.
there was no point in creating this M88 engine and fighter around it. it is like two 4 generation fighters. the first flight of M2K and Rafale I believe only a decade apart.
idea about the size of the tail.

they are waiting for production slots rather than collapse of agreement.

Russian industry makes push into the Iranian market
At the moment, we are not allowed to talk about any offerings for military aircraft here in Iran,” said a UAC representative.
Huh? 72 F-15QAs + 24 Rafales? Sounds like BS to me.. Or Qatar is obviously eyeing to become a local superpower.. 🙂
Seems way overkill to me, especially compared to the current fleet (9 Mirage 2000-5s and 6 Alpha Jets)
they also bought some stuff from Euro firms recently. tanks and base to Turks. I will not be surpized Turks using those weopons as Qatar has too much invested there.

MBDA signs contract to supply a coastal missile system to Qatar
F-16 carries same number of anti-ship or anti-radiation missiles as MiG-35; 4. Rest of your comment is irrelevant. Current F-16 flies with AIM-120D. Current MiG-35 flies with R-77-1. There is a significant performance difference between two missiles.
where you got information about performance difference between R-77-1 and AIM-120D. Russian missiles generally outperform US made in range. just look at cruise missile ranges. MIG-35 has significant advantage in altitude and speed that will give it decisive edge in launching all kind of missiles over F-16. you don’t have any data what speeds F-16 operate with loaded with 4Ashm.
F-16 can fly with 18x Mk-82s, or with 16 GBU-39 GPS-guided bombs. How many guided/unguided bombs MiG-29 can carry?
F-16 can lift of with 4xMk-84s, 3700 kg bomb payload. What is the greatest payload MiG-35 can carry?
show me range and performance of latest F-16 ( the one which has only 2.7 ton internal fuel capacity) that is loaded with 18 MK-82.
MIG-35 is designed for optimum payload/performance that is realistic for combat mission. it is not a stupid upgrade
What is the MiG-35 counterparts for munitions like AGM-158B, Storm shadow, AGM-154, GBU-39, CBU-105 ?? What are the counterparts for projected replacements like GBU-53, or LRASM, JSOW-ER?
just make a big list does not make them effective. MIG-35 can launch Kh-31PMD/AD at Mach 1.5 and over 15km altitude. the missiles are designed for high speed and altitude. fast entry and exit from battlefield. I am sure the kh-58Ush and new Kh-38/Grom family give wide verstality
what kind of missiles F-16s can launch at Mach 1.5 and at high altitude?
this called technology. droping smallest unpowered bombs at maximum ranges.
The Grom-1 is in fact a guided cruise missile equipped with an engine, inertial and satellite guidance systems.
Equipped with a cutting-edge guidance system, the Grom-2 is a high-precision bomb. With no engine, it has an increased, 130-kilogram payload. After the bomb is dropped it flies until it reaches the target. It has a maximum range of 280 kilometers.

Only advantage on MiG-35 would be better maneuevability. Well, 2 deg/s better turn rate won’t be a game changer in a real-life dogfight. But AIM-120D or AGM-158B can be a gamechanger.
what is that surplus engines power Spee/ altitude with big nose and IRST.
Friendly? They were getting kicked out at the time by Maliki as he turned to Iran. Of course they won’t sell them latest offensive stuff yet.
Besides, they’ve got Sparrows, Mavericks, various LGB’s and spare parts, etc. meaning, not only they’re vastly more capable than MiG-23MLD’s and Su-24M’s, but they will also be able to operate them outside of the hangars.
Irak simply cant afford US made LGBs/Mavericks in quantitiy that necessary to defeat ISIS. that’s why it need cheaper bombs/spares for Su-25 and Su-24 is more idle for such situation. just look Yemen war and scale of contracts needed for bombs.
what is the range and speed of anti ship missiles on F-16 and how many Antiship missile F-16 can operate.
MIG-35 has edge in antiship and anti radiation missiles. MIG-35 operates at much higher altitude and speed than F-16 that is likely to give it edge in AAMs range. with surplus power MIG-35 will be more manveourable with loaded weopons and ew/radar power.
Conservative leaning Heritage Foundation index of US military strength 2017. Has caused a bit of an uproar.
Highlights:Wants to restore US ability to successfully fight two MRC’s at the same time
Army: 50 brigade combat teams (BCTs);
• Navy: 346 surface combatants and 624
strike aircraft;
• Air Force: 1,200 fighter/ground-attack
aircraft; and
• Marine Corps: 36 battalions
Rates US Army as “weak” relative to criteria
USAF as “Marginal”
Navy “Marginal”
Marines “Marginal”
Obviously read the criteria as this is a relative score to thier stated requirements.whole document can be downloaded here:
http://index.heritage.org/military/2017/?_ga=1.83863509.210074539.1479484800Personally- I think they overstate the threat posed by certain nations mentioned. Readiness is biggest concern, 10+ years of deployments damaged Army readiness, maintenance, training. Considering personnel costs, 50 BCT is unrealistic (who are we going to be using 15-17 deployed BCT against at any one time?, they want 21 per MRC, assuming a need for 42 active BCT = 20% strategic reserve). Airforce Recap most critical factor, least dominant of the three major branches compared to potential adversaries. Completely disagree on Navy status, other than SSN shortfall next decade, the USN overmatch in any potential theater is perhaps greater than at any time since WWII.
Opinions?
USN is the weakest and most overprice branch of US forces. just look at war against ISIS. I will not be surprised only 5% strike done by aircraft carrier or TLAM. the rest 95% are from various bases supported by air cargo. I doubt USN can deal with round the clock saturated antiship/anti radiation missiles without USAF. the engine power and altitude of E2D is less than a single engine fighter like J-10 AESA. The navy is still stuck in 1960s airpower concept with late 70s subsonic strike missiles and only few ships consider RCS reduced.
MiG-29M is a non factor. no one ordered it. if we include fantasy test planes, we might as well include f-16XL and F-16 DSI and all sorts of fantasy airplanes.
the OP said 80s and early 90s aircraft. no Gripen, no j-10, no late mig-29s that only got into service in the last 3 years. some people can’t seem to read.
so you are stuck with f-16, f-18, mig-29, mirage 2000 and ching-kuo is a fair choice. out of these mig-29 was by far the weakest.
all its operators either dumped it or trying to dump it.. even non NATO ones like Malaysia, already looking for a replacement. Iran had a bad time with it. they rather use their much older f-14s
MIG29UPG of India has same strike power as MiG29M and they much more reliable despite 30 years old compared to J10. MIG29 very versatile plane.
That would depend of if one agrees with the notion that the U.S. economy needs fixing (not to make this political). Of course, one has to buy into his promise to restore rust belt manufacturing too. Recently had this discussion with students in a history of American economics class; working in steel, textile, or heavy industry is not a particularly desireable or financially secure outcome for the majority of Americans in the 21st century.
It seem you have no understanding of Trump. Trade is code word for immigration and identity politics. As trade deficits are financed with foreign money be in real estate or foreign students or direct bonds and ultimately owners of these holdings are changing the demographics. On top of that crappy education and political system that simply not produce the right people that can run private sector or government without foreign labor. Just look at $100b a year in Irak/Afghanistan wars even now with 1/10 of force levels compared to 10 years ago.
Sukhois taking off with 2 bombs and 2 missiles? That makes a total of just 30 bombs dropped a day in the best case scenario where 5 jets are available to do 3 sorties per day, less than 20 more likely.
Remind me why the RT reporter is using his epic voice when reporting on this?
sorties preparation on tv does not mean all sorties will have similar load out with same weopons.
Yeah.. that strikes me as odd..
I wonder just how much $$$ Russia has put into its Weapons(Rockets/missiles tech) R&D since 2006?Anyway, now they get to spend some of them cruise missile on this prime time show.. its pretty identically to what we saw back in DS by NATO/US.
Its disturbing.. civilian will get hurt or die.Looks like the Russian are learning from the masters here..
And ofcourse all this will undoubtly give Mr Putin a bØner.
why since 2006?. Russia got huge scientific pool from soviet times. it just need to modernize it in right direction. I am sure they had some data to brahmos data over past decade.
Indeed, no matter what Ukroboronprom says about replacing Russian components, it is almost impossible as production is very low. In this article, written by a former senior engineer at Antonov, there is plenty of information about these problems.
http://hvylya.net/analytics/economics/est-li-budushhee-u-aviastroitelnoy-otrasli-ukrainyi.html
aviation is now too complex and expensive. Ukraine cant make ammunition. this time Ukraine industries going to be finished.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-15/trump-putin-and-grudging-reformers-tip-ukraine-closer-to-Russia
He gave the example of older generation U.S. anti-tank weapons Ukraine has been trying, in vain, to secure from Washington. The country has more advanced models that its own defense companies could produce themselves, but are too inefficient and corrupt to deliver, according to Saakashvili.
The MiG-31 deployment, if true, is probability just away to give some pilots operation experience that they can take back to their squadrons. Otherwise it could also be to act as a deterrent for anyone who tries to intervene in the up coming RuAF air campaign that’s obviously coming.
.
they are wise to put airframe hours on MIG-31 and not run down the Sukhois. MIG-31 work like AWACS.
