Global warming increase demand of fire fighting planes and higher population decrease of water table will increase earth quakes. It need more heavier and medium size choppers to deal with it.

NH90: German stuff is great. But collabs with Germany never turn out great, and this is one. Looks sexy but so many problems, Go AugustaWestland instead

German stuff is not great even when they make autos. just look at what UN/Extraction companies/Dubai sand dunes and African safaris use. if they cant make auto tough, reliable, easily maintainable even for short period of time so how you can expect they can make fighters with so much parts that has to deal with 30 years of stress that assuming that fighter never see high intensity operations.

    Il-76MD-90A.

its a true multifunctional cargo, tanker and awacs with rough field short takeoff performance and compact foot print on makeshift airbases. with PD-14 engines its range will increase even 20% more. highly upgradable.
you want to see flop projects just look no further than An-70/C-17/An400m/KC390/Y-30. KC390 is built with 99% imported components sourced from who knows what corner of the world. Y-20 is another draggier short range product whose costs cannot be disclosed.

Those export products are the only R-77s ever built in large series.. There have been no R-77s in Russian line service, until now..

That is your opinion not a fact. You cant show even a single Ruaf contract for kh-31.

I don’t need to show you a single thing. It’s your turn now, show me a Russian AF contract for R-77s and then we can talk.

That’s why more than half of production of tactical missile corporation is for Ruaf and that as far as 2010.

Just another test in Akthubinsk or Lipetsk. Not line service.

The key word is successful and public disclosure of test on specially built Flanker Su-27SM3 not on any export derivative Flanker .

Izd.170 was not an export product.. Izd.190 was..

It is irrelevant to Ruaf tests.

I understand the technology and procurement much better than you do.. Your constructions are all bull$hit.. There have been no R-77s in the Russian AF until now, get over it. There are no publicly undisclosed contracts, no secret stocks, nothing.. Those test firings were done with leftover Izd.170 missiles from the early batch.

you made the claim of they signed contract in 2015 and got missile in January 2016. where is your evidence of sign contracts? and provide evidence of delivering missile from those contracts in January 2016. Also provide evidence of any other manufacture in world that can produce newer BVR missile in six months that you never heard of tested publicly before.

see the airforce own words. SM3 more powerfull engines, greater range, more manevourabilty that is on the top of extended range radar for dealing with longer range missiles. so where are your claim of SM3 little different than SM?

    https://wikileaks.org/gifiles/docs/76/760309_russia-southern-russian-airbase-gets-four-su-27sm3-fighter.html
Moscow, 1 December: Four Su-27SM3 modernized fighter jets have arrived
at Krymsk airbase in Krasnodar Territory from Komsomolsk-na-Amure,
having flown about 10,000 km, the chief of the press service of the
Southern Military District, Col Igor Gorbul, told Interfax-AVN on
    Thursday [1 December].

“The arrival of another four Su-27SM3 is expected by the end of the
    year,” said Gorbul.

He said that as part of the state defence order Krymsk airbase had
already received two Su-30M2 and eight Su-27SM aircraft this year.

Su-27SM3 is a deeply modernized multi-purpose fighter jet with a more
powerful engine, improved manoeuvrability and greater range, said
    Gorbul.

this is direct report from MAKS-2011. now where is your evidence that R-77-1 deployment only begins from Su-35 as you only saw them in Syria in January 2016.

The Su-27SM3 has improved sighting and weapons package that includes new missiles. Sukhoi does not specify types, but says new air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles in the Su-27SM3 arsenal have longer ranges. A new EW suite improves survival chances in conditions of heavy enemy counteraction. Maintenance is eased through introduction of KIS “comprehensive information system” which monitors the condition of onboard systems.

Because the story is well known..

those export product irrelevant to Ruaf.

No contract on Izd.170 or Izd.190 was ever signed by the VKS.. The first two real contracts were signed in 2015, but for the long-legged Izd.170-1 – first batch to be delivered by the end of 2016, the second batch a year later. What we have seen in Syria were early deliveries of the first contract, possibly even pre-series examples.

as I said you don’t undertand technology and procurement. I am sure you can show me all the contracts of various modification of Kh-31 missiles procurements.
first show me recent contracts in 2015?. and if there were any contracts that will be for newer batches. As missiles are continuously procured. just few years ago tactical missile corporation had $3b revenue and more than 50% was directed to Ruaf. It never takes 5 years once a test is publicly disclose for a missile to go into production. Its a missile not a full system of radars like in SAMs.

    form September 2010.

    http://en.take-off.ru/pdf_to/to18.pdf

Would you dwell on other of your efforts
to expand the capabilities of the existing
    radars?
Just a fortnight ago, in late September,
there was the first successful launch of an
    upgraded air-to-air missile by a Su-27SM3
prototype, with the missile hitting its target
    .
To extend the missile’s range, we had
upgraded the antenna, transmitter and RF
update channel of the Su-27’s organic radar.
    The Su-27SM3 upgraded fighter entered
its official tests and, probably, will serve the
pattern for upgrading the Su-27 fighters in
    combat units

That I am asking that how do you know VKS inventory regarding any missile let alone R77 variants.?. You still can’t figure out klibr pricurement that is actually used in combat from various platforms. They specifically designed su-27sm3 for extended range air to air missile and that fighter delivered January 2011.
It has nothing to do with any fighter that is exported before or any fighter that supposed to go into production in late 90s. The technological development and procurement in recent years is very different and of much higher quality and very discreet approach.

Today’s Su-30M2s are not significantly different from the Su-30MKK from the year 2000.. And neither is from the Su-27SM which is basically an Su-27P/S upgraded with Su-30MK2 tech.

Those fighters were not used for weopon trials for Ruaf at the time. They may have adopted some tech from them for upgrades. Look at January 2011 statements regarding su-27sm3 . It clearly written
    http://www.defencetalk.com/new-multi-role-su-27sm3-fighters-delivered-to-the-russian-air-force-39215/

That all doesn’t change a thing on the fact that there were no Izd.170s or Izd.170-1s in the VKS inventory and only have been introduced shortly before the Syrian deployment of the Su-35Ss in Feb 2016.

How many various versions of kalibr missile were in the inventory before syria ?. did you have the purchase statements regarding them. How many pods were ordered for syria purpose as every Flanker fighter was carrying it.

In US Navy analogy, 1990’s F-14D airframe is decomissioned some 10 years ago. Carrier operations are harsh. Don’t get me wrong, I like Su-33, I would love to see it taking-off with 32 FAB-250s just to see the looks on the faces of everyone claiming Su-33 can take off only when clean.. I just think that won’t happen. We will see about that in a few weeks.

    SU-33 is not F14D.

This particular test was done on fighter destined for Ruaf not export and this is not 1990s now computer technology is advanced enough that actual test is the last thing for validation. How many kalibr missile tests done from SSK and small Corvettes before they were used in syria ?

Kh-59 uses an autopilot then TV, IIR, or Radar guidance depending on variant. It obviously cannot use TV or IIR versions, but radar guided Kh-59MK or MK2 look pretty usable to me.

TBH there would be some scenarios about its utility; Su-33 can carry 8 KAB-500Ss, instead of 4 on MiG-29K. MiG can do the sighting and Su-33 could drop the bombs. Operationally this isn’t a longshot, most PGM drops are conducted in this way; no fighter aircraft actually illuminates its own guided bombs as the aircraft flies is faster than the bombs they release, and its just safer to illuminate from the distance instead of trying to do so by flying straight in level just above the target and wait for MANPADS and AAA hits.

Its mostly a theoratical discussion on whether Su-33 may be able to use it or not. In practice we are likely to see Su-33s with 4-6 AAMs because their airframes are probably too old to take-off with few tons of bombs.

Su-33 are 90s airframe and recently overhauled. They are ready to drop ordinance.

First public disclosure of new R77 test happened in autumn of 2011 from su-27sm3. The radar was specifically upgraded to deal with extended range of missile. It’s 5 year old tech just by public disclosure

Actually after such threats are thrown, one off airstrikes would be more difficult. Its one thing to attack a lone Turkish F-16 and hope for a score, its another thing to target a squadron 30-40 F-16s. In both cases; Assad is very slowly winning their war againist seperatists. If he orders an attack on a Turkish military asset today, and makes Turkey involve in a full-scale operation, he will lose the war he is winning. For his own, Russia’s and Turkey’s sake, I hope he is not that stupid.

I mean they give latitude to one off strikes and not want to shoot fighter for sake of shooting down fighters. but if they the become many they will shoot all of them. Turkey will never be allowed to manage Syrian skies. Turkey is no position to defeat Assad. All those stop and start peace deals are for collection of investments from Persian gulf Arabs. Turkey is just a middlemen.

Your usual trolling in the past at least included some news relevant to discussion. The news is related to completely different thing from S-300. In brief summary, US and Russia agreed upon where their aircraft were supposed to operate. Turkey did not. Current Turkish air strikes use both the Russian and US operating areas. Otherwise, Assad throw his -empty- threat of shooting down Turkish aircraft in 21th friday. There have been like 5 airstrikes on Saturday, 4 on Sunday, 4 on 26th Wednesday, 1 on 27th Thursday.

In the last few days, there is a silence in Syria, possibly IMO some of the pro-Turkish FSA groups moved to Aleppo and there is a shortage of manpower. Today, however, there were pictures of desert camoflage Leopard 2A4s -hidden under tents- being moved towards Syrian border. This is significant because all Turkish Leo2A4s belong to 1st Army and had jungle camouflage; every single one. Those tanks aren’t hastily re-painted in the last few days just to stay on the Turkish side of the border. When operations continue, maybe even on a bigger scale, Turkish airstrikes will surely resume. Current absence of airstrikes -probably- has nothing to do with S-300v4 or any other Russian military equipment there.

Putin wants turkey to invade syria but without airpower. I am sure it can manage one off strikes but nothing like concentrated firepower.

You’re right, the EW pods only have appeared on the Su-35S in late Jan 2016, few days before their Syrian deployment.. Yet another hasty introduction into service, thanks for pointing that out..

It seem you have no understanding what I am writing. Certain things like pods and high end missiles are continuously produced in small batches. Both to deal with tech obsolescence and leakage of technology. You never want to bring even 5 years old missiles to fight. It has no relationship to whether su-35 even actually fired a real R77 before as its part of its designed. this among the first plane along with IL476 that is digitally designed from ground up.
