Half-assed aerial campaigns can maintain the status quo which is a way to end a war when the opposing sides realize they can’t make any decisive progress. The problem with your logic is that the Assad regime cannot win this war as it represents the minority of the population
where you got this idea Asad cant win the war?. Ruaf entered war after long hiatus. it takes a year or two to put all the operational and intelligence assets in line along with training and development of new penetrating bombs.
Thus, escalating the level of Russian support would just escalate the level of material help for the opposition by Turkey and the Gulf countries and perhaps even force the US to get involved which would only end in bringing the regime down in potentially a much messier way than we’ve seen so far since the regime holds the areas with the biggest population levels.
why should Russia care if Gulf or Turkey/US want to escalate. . US will be printing money. Gulf countries will have less money for other wars like Yemen. Turkey if continue on this path will self explode. Gulf countries simply cant replace loss of tourist/investment revenues for Turkey.
I read Russia is sending ships from pacific fleet also. They better send every thing to Indian ocean and create coalition of willing with Egypt and Iran.
