dont know about the other engine problem but this particular APU on the ATR is the ONLY way it’l work. The engine runs but the transmittion between engine and blade is disconnected hence no spinning, hence the power to the 42/72 series of a/c – not really a horror story…

probably so… been trying to get hold of a few ates from ABD over the last few days or so

i hope bmi don’t go under, although an allience or partnership between the two would be good for each side – bearing in mind bmi couldn’t get LHR slots for the Transat jobbies…

a/c such as the DHC-6 which operate in harsh climates will have a worse safety record than most!

I’s have said Korean too – off the top of my head the B747 at Guam, B742F at Stansted, MD-11F at Sydney (not a crash as such), plus a couple of smaller types – something to do with CRM – most pilots are ex-communist military…
